The 2560 does interests me a bit more than the X220 as it has an optical drive, which I use. However, the screen quality isn't going to be same as the X220's IPS option. Then on the other hand there is also the 12.5in Samsung Series 4(has a nub mouse also), which also has an optical drive, usb 3.0 standard(not sure if its standard on the 2560), and starting price is suppose to be lower vs the 2560.

Have you considered adding an external US$36-shipped 9.5mm optical drive? The combination will still be lighter than a 2560P.

The HP 2560P is a heavy bugger. From the HP 2560P QuickSpec datasheet, snippet below:

Comparing against systems at Sandby Bridge notebooks for an eGPU in same the same class (Lenovo X220, Toshiba R830) we see that a Lenovo X220 with 6-cell is 1.45kg/3.2lbs. That's a whopping 470grams less. In other words a 2560P weights 32.4% more than a X220. Removing the optical drive shaves off 100grams. Then the 2560P is 370grams (25.5%) heavier with the same drive configuration. That's more than the 280grams that a 6-cell battery weighs.

    Weight with 6-cell+ODD 1.63kgs/3.59lbs 1.70kgs/3.74lbs 1.81kgs/3.99lbs 1.92/4.24lbs
Source: HP 2510P, 2530P, 2540P, 2560P differences. Notice the weight creep per generation.

The only weight information I can find about the 2560p is 3.58 lb (1.63 kg), e.g. from the HP Shop, including optical drive. Where does this "1.92/4.24lbs" information come from?
