Has anyone seen an Eltebook G3 in the wild yet?

I am considering getting an 820 G3 but have three questions that intensive studying of Datasheets did not answer:

    - What is the USB Type-C good for?

According to the Specsheet, it's equipped with
Now that really doesn't say anything. :vbfrown:

Cross-Checking the Intel Logo List with a Picture of the Elitebook 820, it may actually be an USB 2.0 Port [IMG]
now that would be a little TOO BASIC, wouldn't it?

Then there's the Ram. The processor supports 2x 16GB DDR4, the sockets support 2x 16GB DDR4, the speecsheet says "16GB max."
Anyone tried equipping it with 32GB?

    Finally there's the SSD...
The 820 supports either a 2.5" SATA3 device, or M.2 2280, which according to the specsheets is also a SATA SSD.

Would the connector Support PCIe as well?

What's the point in equipping it with an M.2 SSD from the factory, if there is no performance increase over a comparable SATA3 (2.5") SSD?

    Thanks
    DD

I am surprised nobody seems to have a G3 yet?!

By now I can answer some of my own questions:

    a) The USB-C Port is *at least* a USB 3.1 5Gb/s (aka USB 3.0) port. I don't have any PD capable devices or display adapters, so I couldn't test that.
    b) Yes, it does support 32GB Ram! (2x16GB DDR4 SO-Dimm)
    c) PCIe is supported, I need to double check if it's PCIe x4 / NVMe, but I assume so.

    Hey,

    my Probook 650 G2 also has a "1 USB Type-C™" / "(1) USB Basic Type- C"".

I would love to check out which port type it is but i dont know how. I dont have a type c device or cable. Any idea how to figure out the port type?

None of the pictures look like the type c port on the HP Probook.

    It looks like this:

As far as I see, you have HP 820 G3 Laptop

May I ask you a few questions?

Have you installed 32GB of DDR4 Ram in HP 820 G3? I'm planning to purchase version on i3 processor
Is it possible to combine MX100 SSD and PCIE NVME in M2 slot?

Can you please share your overall experience with this laptop, i will appreciate it

    Thanks for sharing

First of all I think this is the wrong place to discuss this, so Mods may want to move this to a separate thread.
    Anyway:
    a) Yes, I am running 2x16GB Crucial DDR4 2133mhz SO-DIMM on an i5-6300u

    b) THEORETICALLY it is possible to fit SATA + M.2 SSD. The mainboard supports running both M.2 and SATA at the same time.
However, in order to fit the M.2 SSD on top of the 2.5" drive, you may have to disassemble the 2.5" drive (remove the case and void the SSD's warranty) in order for it to physically fit. If you "push a bit" the mainboard will flex a millimeter or so and it will fit with a case as well, but I do not recommend doing so, as this will put stress on both your mainboard and the PCIe SSD and you may end up doing physical damage.

Also do note that depending on how you order your Computer from HP, it will come either with a mounting bracket for a 2.5" drive (not needed for SSDs) or the screw mount (not sure what it's called, basically a screw in the case where you install the mSata screw) See Pages 36-39 of the Service manual:
    http://h20565.www2.hp.com/hpsc/doc/...815289&docId=emr_na-c04887199&docLocale=en_US

    Overall experience is... alright.
    I hate the battery/life.
At 44 Wh (vs more than 100 on my previous Fujitsu) it's pretty poor and I get 2-5 hours (usually like 2.5-3) per charge.

Also annoyed that there are no tools to configure battery settings (such as 80% charge) and no tool to control the LTE Modem (i.e. force 4G only)

Finally I think the screen could be 13" in the same case, and the height (open screen) could be lower as it can be a pain on economy class flights still.

Having said all the negatives, it's a pretty good machine overall.
Docking Solution works a charm, I'm glad it has all the features I wanted except battery life (LTE, Fingerprint, FHD Touchscreen, 32GB Ram, VGA and LAN Ports) I think it's a good buy overall.

I am using CT2K16G4SFD8213 it is.
Of course Crucial will say unsupported, since HP officially does not support it.

has anyone checked if the 820 G3 can be charged via USB-C? HP sells a Port-Dock, but I would not wanna use it if charging does not work over it.

EDIT: found the info: http://www8.hp.com/h20195/v2/GetPDF.aspx/4AA6-7466EEW.pdf which suggests that charging is not possible on the 8xx G3 series.

Which makes me wonder... also no DP and HDMI over USB-C on the G3 models?

didn´t check for the USB-C so far. Only thing I ordered for the USB-C is a "Uplink USB 3.0 Super Speed 4-Port Hub | 301504", so that I can add USB thingies while the 840G3 is in the dockingstation - and I don´t have to reach behind the laptop. Will see if I really use it, but with 10,- Euro it was cheap enough to not hurt
