Greetings! I am interested in getting a ssd and upgrading the ram in the future. While HP recommends that I buy their own ram and ssd, does it really matter where I buy my ram and ssd? For instance, Newegg's prices seem more attractive. Also, how would I put the old hard drive into the DVD slot, and will a ssd fit into the hard drive bay? Thanks!

You don't need to buy from HP directly, don't worry, there will be no issues.
As for the DVD slot, get a drive bay from HP or any reseller, and then just put your ssd into that bay and insert it into the DVD slot.
You just need to find the proper part number (for the upgrade bay) for your machine.
