So, anyone know how long it typically takes HP to allow for ordering of a product, after it has been announced? I know they said available in May, but looking at the 8540w, the recommended config is not available until May 20th! Seems to me like there is no stock on any of the elitebooks. I don't mind waiting until May, but I would be upset if they made it "available" on May 31st, just to say it has a 3-4 week lead time before delivery.

I contacted a HP sales rep and they said it has been delayed. I asked when can I order the lady told me mid-may. So I am guessing you wont get it till June.

I figured that was the case. I guess it is a good thing I am going on vacation and will not be thinking about computers for a while. I get back on May 17th, so if there is still no information on when it is available, I will look elsewhere. The new Lenovo W520 is looking pretty good. Not sure about the Dell, but it is a Dell and I would crucify myself if I bought one.

The Dell Precision M4600 looks to be the best of this generation IMO. IPS panel like the HP, mSATA SSD like the Lenovo, and overall great redesign (similar to the M6500/6600 chassis).

Funny, I like the dell the least of the three, looks like you could slash your wrists on the corners of it, they've removed storage options, still don't have RAID options unless you buy into their little obsession with small minicard SSD's, don't have a mid resolution screen
The common sense dept closed at Dell about 18 months ago, only they would think reducing capacity and options on a workstation is an improvement.

I like the design and specification options on the HP the most

While checking HP's site yesterday, I saw that "limited time" "deals and offers" were available for the 8x40w series, although the prices I saw seemed pretty high for systems that are a generation behind. In any case, hopefully this means that the 8x60w series will be orderable pretty soon.

The new line looked really polished in the video I saw for a demo build, but I'm really curious to see if the pricing will be competitive with Dell and Lenovo.

Just take a similar priced P series and add about 200-300 and that should be the price for the W series. At least that is according to HP's numbers. P series start at 999 while W series start at 1299. So i'm guessing its about 200-300 more expensive.

    Hey All,

I spoke to my HP rep and she told me that they will be taking W orders mid June.
