    Hi folks,

after dealing with this on and off for the past month I decided to go to ask the kind and helpful people on these excellent forums

The problem is this: I can't get the internal speakers of my elitebook 8540w (running win7 64bit) to work after I have plugged (and unplugged) anything into the headphones jack (same with headphones and external monitor audio cable).

The unusual thing here is, that the speakers work fine when working with skype (if I designate them as the default skype audio device).

Also, I notice in the IDT audio control pannel, that the jack seems to think something is plugged in to it.

Uninstalling the IDT driver doesn't help. Restarting the machine ad nauseam doesn't work. Even disconnecting both power sources (chord and battery) does nothing.

Does anybody here have an idea? I'd really appreciate a fix and would be absolutely delighted if I could even prevent this from happening in the future while still being able to use headphones.

    Thanks all and have fun

    Peter

In my case worked this one.
COntrol Panel-> Hardware and Sound->Manage audi devices under Sound and Disable currently active playback device and then enable it back.
After that internal speakers start working.

During this manipulations winamp was playing music.
