Since Lenovo has recently (Jan 2011) revised its warranty strategy not to cover hinges (yes you read that right. If hinges fail you during warranty time, then Lenovo will not repair them since they are viewed as cosmetic defects) our company is looking to HP.
Anybody knows what the HP Policy for Elitebooks is? Anybody had a recent hinge problem with their elitebook and had it repaired under warranty?

    Thanks

    Kind Regards

    Nik

I currently have a problem with the right hinge on my 8740w. It has a 1-2mm deviation to the right. This produces some play on the right side of the lid.
Don't worry, HP will replace the screen to you for a new one (the hinge cannot be sold separately) if you have a hinge bad assembled (like mine) or if you have a problem with the hinges in the future. Granted.

In my case, although I'm not in the 30-day return window, still HP is going to replace the entire laptop due to several other issues too. I must say I had to "push the right buttons" (a consumer complaint and a lawyer were needed) in order to "convince" them. It was not easy, but finally I got it.

That being said, I did not regret my purchase. With the DreamColor screen, the 8740w is the BEST bussiness laptop you can buy today, and it's suitable even for consumer use (an awesome desktop replacement).

Hinges ARE covered by warranty with Lenovo ;).
Lenovo will not cover visual defects under warranty such as scratches, plastic dents etc, but hinges ARE covered because they are NOT visual defect and are mechanical unit.
False alarm, it has been cleared @lenovo forums @lenovo.com by Mark_Lenovo.

Sorry to correct you, but this is definitely not the case. I am waiting for Mark to resolve the issue, but the official statement from both Lenovo Germany and a Premium Gold LEnovo Partner is, that the warranty terms have been revised in January 2011 with the effect that hinges are no longer covered.

I definitely hope that the issue can be resolved, since else it would mean changing a brand I have known and trusted for the past 15 years.

    Kind Regards

I highly doubt that they will get away with it, I assume its your REGIONAL office who misunderstood warranty policy updates ;)
