I wonder if Engineering Sample (ES) CPUs are compatible with HP Elitebooks?
I found a few cheap quad core ES CPUs and planning to use it with my 8460p. Anyone here is using ES CPUs for the latest sandy bridge Elitebooks?

ES/QS chips are just early versions of the OEM chips. So, yes, ES chips work in the 8460p.

Thanks for the information. I'm afraid HP BIOS will not detect ES chips. Are you 100% sure they will work in my 8460P. Do you have any source or information where ES chips will work on HP laptops? Thank you.

That's a risk with ES chips that you have to take. They are engineering samples and they may or may not be feature complete and they were never meant to be sold on the retail market. The only thing I can tell you is to search the internet and see if others have had success with that chip and/or your laptop. I don't see why it wouldn't work but with HP's history of whitelisting components in BIOS who knows.
