    Hello,

I just got an 8540p but can't live with the fan noise it does under office conditions (surfing the web, email, wordprocessing).

I disabled Fan Always on in the Bios and tried to fix the CPU at minimum Stepping through Windows 7 64bit Powermanagement:
    Process power management:
minimum processor state plugged in & on battery 0%
cooling policy aktiv und passiv probiert
maximum processor state plugged in & on battery 5%

And in Linux setting CPU Frequency Governor to powersaving and having cpu fixed at 1.2 Ghz.

IMHO it is more the pitch of the fan noise than it's volume that bugs me when I try to concentrate in silent environment.

Can you advice me on a tool to use for fan control. I'd like to try to set it to a speed with an bearable noise frequency.
I looked into speedfan and notebook hardware control. Speedfan reports temperatures to me but doesn't show fan rpm nor can i modify those. NHC doesn't even start an states it can't load the nhc driver.
I am using Windows 7 64bit and would appreciate any help on getting to monitor an control my fan speed.

I'm considering this model but worried about the fan noise problem that seems to be quite a big issue.

OP - Did this solution solve the problem for you? Are you now satisfied with the noise level?

    Thanks.
