    Hello.

Today I notice that my disk is started to fail.

So I was wondering something. System specs are: Dual Core T2600, 1gb DDR2 system memory, integrated Intel video card, 120gb disk. It run Windows 7 (with great difficults on performance), so I consider upgrade some parts in order to get more better performance. I use it only for surfing, watching sports, shows and movies and reading in forums.

Here are few questions about stability:

    1) on paper it can carry max of 2gb ram (533), but will it work stable?

    2) can it work with 7200rpm disk - wd black or seagate momentus, for example?

    3) now runs win7 ultimate, if I downgrade it to starter, for example, will it be better for it from performance point of view? originaly was shipped with vista.

    Thanks in advance.

After a quick search, it has Intel 945 chipset that is actually 32bit, so the max ram it actually supports is around 3GB. I believe you could fit in two 2GB modules and get that ~3GB but one 2GB module is probably enough.

7200rpm disks work fine but you could consider an SSD if you don't need that much space, 64-120GB range is pretty cheap today, comparable to bigger conventional drives.

Downgrade to starter should not give any benefits, it's just a crippled, cheaper version for netbooks.

Huge thanks KLF for the help.

This chips (2GB DDR2 533) are very rare in Bulgaria and because of their rarity they sell them with very high prices. Last night I found and I ordered dual channel kit of 2x1GB DDR2 533. I ordered 533 because I have huge fear of fail his motherboard with more powerful memory(667, for example).

Every motherboard from 530 that I saw was upgraded with 667 memory - this lead me to somekind of problem with 667 chips. And since I use it for Lenovo backup laptop, I need him alive as much as possible.

As for the SSD, on the Black Friday there are few interesting offers about Intel 520 series, but I missed all of them, so I have to wait to Chistmas offers.
