I searched the owners lounge and didn't find much on this topic. I'm wondering for those of you w/ the 8740w who use the Dreamcolor screen - how is the lag? I mostly play MMOs like Everquest 2 - not FPS games. I'm assuming it's mostly OK but wanted to ask. Thanks!

I have played a few games on my 8740w -- mostly Battlefield: Bad Company 2. The lag is not noticeable to my eyes nor has it been to any others who I let play games on it (I suck at BC2, so I had to enlist a friend to help me level up ;)).

Nice. Thank ya! Looks like I found my replacement for the Dell M4400. I see a CTO8740w code for 18% off. Is there a better one avail through other channels?

What sort of FPS do you get in EQ2? Are you at full native resolution? Also, I've heard that EQ2 is much more CPU intensive, not GPU, so wondering if you think the 5000M makes a huge diff or not on gameplay?

i play eq2 at 1600x900 in windowed mode, and on balanced/high qual, it sits on about 45-60FPS

obviously for raids, i bring that down to raid mode (high performance) and get a solid 45fps - the gpu is used a bit, but yea, it's all about the cpu.

this is for windowed mode, if i'm in full screen @ 1920x1200 i get a little less in the top qualities, but raiding is fine

but - you do need to install the old Directx 9.0c for it to work properly, or you get loads of stupid errors.

zone loading with the SSD i had - 4-7sec.

    With momentus xt 6-10 sec

    500gb normal 7200rpm drive, about 12-20 sec.

    hope this helps :)

thanks - those frame rates are WAY better than what I'm getting on my Dell M4400. I thought I could handle gaming on a 15" laptop but w/ all the hotbars and maintained spell / detriments / etc windows - the screen gets crowded.

it's funny that your FPS goes down in full window mode - I find that to be the opposite for me. I hate windowed mode anyway - even tho that's the only way to see GuildConnect windows...

His FPS goes up in windowed mode because his resolution is reduced compared to full-screen (1600x900 vs 1920x1200). If it had been a full resolution window, his FPS would probably have been lower too.
