I just purchased a 2510p on Ebay. It came with all the hardware but no OS. Upon receiving it and booting I observed a BIOS error stating a BIOS updated did not complete. Used notes from this forum to recover BIOS. Thanks to all.

Other thing I noticed was BIOS did not recognize HDD. Seller states drive was working fine. Seemed reputable. I reseated the ZIF cable releasing and closing the ZIF lever on the drive. I tried multiple 1.8 ZIF drives. Still not recognized (BIOS F.0D).

I had bought a second 2510p on Ebay with no HDD, caddie,. I moved the caddie over to the 2nd 2510p. Not recognized in BIOS either (BIOS F.0F)?

I ordered some ZIF HDD cables without doing my research...UGH! When I received them (NEW) from China I could immediately tell the quality was awful. Tried two anyway. Still not recognized on either laptop in BIOS. Of course the WIN 7 install will not recognize either.

I ordered some new OEM ZIF HDD cables to test (authentic). Won't have them for a few days.

My question to you gentlemen is am I on the right track? Am I missing something? At this point I'm still assuming it's the drive cable.

Seller says he'll refund me my money but the laptop is really nice and I got it for a decent price and would hate to miss out on it being something simple. Seller states he's been running Vista on it for a couple of years but scrubbed the drive before selling it.

Drives I've been using for testing test good. Ordered a KingSpec 64 GB SSD new to test also.

    I would appreciate your feedback.

    Gentlemen,

An update. I received the OEM ZIF cables today. Hooked up the new KingSpec 64GB SSD to a new cable. Dropped it in. Yay!! Worked perfect first time. Loaded Win 7 w/ no issues. Thank you all for your consideration in this matter. Big difference between the cables I received from China...you could see the connector was lopsided and uneven. New OEM looked perfect. A sincere thanks to all that contribute on this forum. I know you all have gotten me out of an issue on more than one occasion.

The ZIF cables have been problematic for other users including myself. Good to hear a replacement got you going.

Now given those Kingspec SSDs are such a bargain, can you post a review with performance info as well as a direct comparison back to the original ZIF HDD? Eg: http://forum.notebookreview.com/sol...nice-k3vlar-e-ews720-zif-ssd-user-review.html .

    Nando,

Here's what I've done based on your request. I installed and ran CrystalDisk Info and CrystalDisk Mark. Initially it showed low read/write speeds. I followed directions under http://forum.notebookreview.com/sol...nice-k3vlar-e-ews720-zif-ssd-user-review.html in regards to tweaking the SSD. I hope the tweak is compatible to the KingSpec I purchased and the HP2510p. I did notice a difference afterwards.

    Here's the before and after.
