    Hi all,

I just received the HP 2510p laptop (seller refurbished) I won from an ebay auction. It's working fine and in excellent physical condition except:
    1. Quick Launch buttons are not working. There are no lights on the buttons. I already installed the latest drivers from HP website. There are no missing drivers in device manager. I'm thinking if there is a cable inside the laptop that is not plugged in properly.
    2. The screen flickers when booting up to halfway the windows 7 loading screen (I'm assuming until when the display drivers are loaded). This only happens when the power adapter is plugged in. I've tried removing the battery and press the power button for 30 seconds as well as running the laptop on ac power (no battery). It's fine running on battery.

I could return this but I just don't want to go through all the hassle. I already emailed the seller but I don't really expect much from them.

Any help is appreciated. Thanks in advance!

EDIT: BIOS update fixed the screen flickering issue.

The quicklaunch button LEDs will flash on reboot. If there is no flash then yes, the little ZIF cable might have dislodged or is damaged, or the panel itself faulty. More likelyly the former. Reseating it is relatively easy. Replacing it with a HP cable might be a hassle. It's possible to use a flip ZIF cable. It has the same pin pitch but will be too wide. Just cut it down using boxcutters. Useful to have some spares in case you don't get it right first time. Not sure it if was 4 or 10cm long.

I was hoping for some hidden BIOS option! I'll check once I'm confident that I could put the thing back together =)

I just installed the 60GB K3VLAR and 4GB G skill RAM as per the suggestions here in the forusm. I'm installing Win7 Ent x64 and will see how it goes.

Thanks for all your help nando4!

    My pleasure.

Lifting the quick launch panel will allow you to check the connection on it's end. A good first step. To then check the cable on the systemboard end you'll need to lift up the keyboard to get access. Do that by undoing the marked 5 keyboard screws with a T10 torx screwdriver.
