    Hello there,
I have the 6730b notebook and it intermittently powers off completely. It happens using battery, mains or docking stn. It may take up to 10 attempts to get it up again. The fan and lights come on, then the display then she just cuts off again. Other times it has been fine for days and then when your in the middle of something-bang! main board was replaced 3 months ago. Any ideas please!

bad fan, fan not plugged in correctly, poor or non-existent application of heat paste on the cpu, bad battery, bad power control board, bad mobo, bad ram, any number of loose cables, etc, etc.

To troubleshoot you are going to have to strip the machine down to essentials and systematically test things. If it's something on the mobo you're going to have to disassemble the machine pretty much down to barebones.

If you have your machine powered up and into windows, to into the event viewer to see if windows has captured anything.
