    HP 840 G1 vs Zbook 14

    Hello HP Experts,

    the only real differences i know so far between the 840 G1 vs. Zbook 14 are the following:

    1. confirmed military standard Mil-Std-810G for Drop on the Zbook 14
    2. discrete graphics with AMD Firepro for Zbook 14

    Besides these 2 factors, any other advantages to the Zbook besides marketing/positioning as a Workstation and 840 G1 as a busines notebook?

    Is the Zbook 14 worth the roughly 25-30% price premium over the 840 G1?

    The Zbook definitely has a better chassis than the Elitebook. The Firepro card also works much better in pro apps than the Radeon. I also believe that the Firepro maintains its clock speeds under load instead of throttling, but I did not actually check the clock speeds to verify if it was occuring or not. The Elitebook on the other hand definitely throttles the Radeon card under load.

    If you are using this with pro apps, then definitely choose the Zbook. If you care about durability and build quality, you may also want the Zbook. If you intend to do any light gaming on this you may want the Zbook as well, just so performance is consistent.

    Zbook does not throttle the Fire Pro under load, at least from the test unit I had for a month before I settles on the Zbook 15.

    Durability and build quality seems to be higher on the Zbook just as was done with their predecessors the Elitebook W series vs the regular elitebooks and lower lines like the Probooks

    Thanks guys for the info.

    One other aspect that the Zbook 14 has an advantage. HP managment software for the Zbook.

    I'm not sure if the 840 G1 elitebook has the same software...

    I currently own and use daily a zbook 14 touch model. Like most have noted, the chassis and overall build lean to the robust side and are what you would expect for what you are paying. At first I didn't like the keyboard somewhat, but you get used to if in the first week and the key feedback is sufficient. I also have the touch model, and its a great option to have, it changes the way I read and surf the web. I am a big fan of the touchpad and gestures out of the box. My Dell E5440 is a nuisance with the touchpad gestures, often having things jump around on me. With HP's setup, most anything is flawless and intuitive as it comes. On battery life, with SSD, touch, and firepro card you can still get 6+hrs of battery life, and it handles mid-end games (diablo3, starcraft2, etc) well. The slice battery as an option would be nice, but you'd be carrying around about 6lbs of laptop+batter+charger... The elitebook is nice, but a bit less focused on durability. As I get 4-5hrs daily use out of my machine and expect to have it last 3 years minimum, the extra durability is important to me. On price, shopping around you should be able to get a well spec'd Zbook for low 1000s. The i5 really is enough if you add your own ssd and minimum 8gbs memory.

    Good luck on shopping for a laptop.

    The Zbook have monitors calibrated by dreamworks. The colors are "perfect"

    no the Zbook 17" CAN have the upgraded Dreamcolor 2 screen ( the Zbook 15 r1 could but it was hit and miss ) that are perfect. the regular screens are just very good
