I was wondering if the screen resolution can be upgraded on 8540W?
The current resolution is 1600x900, I like the 1920x1200 or similar. Is is a matter of replacing the LCD or does the video card need to be upgraded as well.

Has anyone done this, is it even worth doing it?

    Thanks

Probably no problem. I've done it myself on my older HP 2133.
Easyest way is to buy the whole bezel with lcd screen, camera and so. Look in service manual for partnumber and check ebay.
You could buy the lcd panel itself, but it's a lot harder to replace without breaking something.

    You won't get 1920x1200 though as it's 16:10 format and 8540w is 16:9.
    1920x1080 will work imho.

Depending on how important it is to you, and how much you are willing to spend, I will soon be getting delivery of an 8540w with the Dream Color 2 screen - 1920X1080 and I don't have use for it, so I will sell if for something well under its regular price, though it will be sealed in a box with a brand new warranty. Let me know if you're intersted. It may cost you lless to sell yours and buy mine than to buy the upgraded screen for yours. Only problem is, mind has the core i7-620, not quad core as most people need for this model. Otherwise, it's pretty high spec: 8 GB RAM, 500 GB HDD, ATI 5800, etc. PM me if you're intersted.
