In 2017 I've succesfully implemented a clean install of Windows 10 Pro on my HP 8540w ( NVdia Quadro FX 880M, i7-720QM, 20 GB Ram, Samsung SSD 840 PRO).

I noticed extreme DPC latency spikes originated from the NVidia driver: nvlddmkm.sys. I intended to use this unit for audio purposes, listening to hi-rez (lossless) WAV files. However, the sound was terribly distorted by the DPC latency spikes.

I've tried all available recent drivers from HP as well as from NVidia for this specific Quadro FX 880M to eliminate the latency spikes. To no avail!
Then I tried old NVidia drivers from HP's website and then luck was with me: SP51482, version 261.28, dated 21 dec. 2010 (YES 2010), solved the problem of extreme latency spikes. I'm now able to enjoy my music files without any distortion.

Having solved the Latency problem, there is a new problem on the horizon: How can I prevent that the NVidia software and driver will be replaced by Windows Update!

Who is able to help me out with this forthcoming problem!

    Thanks,
    Judith

Well, I've found the solution myself:

Do not include drivers with Windows Updates
Allows admins to exclude Windows Update (WU) drivers during updates.

To configure this setting in Group Policy, use Computer Configuration\Administrative Templates\Windows Components\Windows update\Do not include drivers with Windows Updates. Enable this policy to not include drivers with Windows quality updates. If you disable or do not configure this policy, Windows Update will include updates that have a Driver classification.
