    HP 8560w with AMD5850, 4RAM DIMMs?

    Hello,

    I have a HP8560w with AMD M5950, i7-2720qm and FHDisplay. But I have only 2 Ram DIMMs, the two under the keyboards are missing. I know that there are Mainboards for the 8560w which have 4 Ram DIMMs. Now my question, is the combination of AMD M5950, FHDisplay and i7 prohibiting the use of the Mainboard with 4 DIMMs.

    My understanding of it all was, that the Mainboard with 2 DIMMs is used when a DualCore is inserted and the Mainboard with 4 DIMMs is used when a QuadCore is used.

    So, if someone has the combination mentioned above and has 4 DIMMs, I would be happy if he/she replies. I would appreciate it, so that I have some prove, that it is possible to have 4Dimms because my Retailer says, this combination it not possible.

    Service manual doesn't really shed any light here. Page 24 in this case, only two motherboard models are listed, one for dual- and one for quadcores.

    That could be old information since it mentions only FirePro M5950 anyways.

    2 Cores: Intel Core i7-2620M Processor (2.70 GHz, 4 MB L3 cache, 2 cores/4 threads, 35W)

    Four memory slots only on models with quad-core processor.

    sorry, didn´s see the QM - of course a Quad.
    Board should have 4 ram slots then, 2 at the back, 2 underneath the keyboard.

    and yes, i am sure - the system in my sig has a qm and i´m pretty sure, that i put in 4 ram modules myself

    Thx for your answers. My Laptop will now be sent back and they fix the problem, meaning they will replace the Mainboard with one witch has 4 Dimms.
