    Hello fellow HP owners !

I just bought a refurbished 8760W from a big company I'm working for.
As fas as I know, I have the Dreamcolor panel (based on LG panel ID).

Refurbishing Policy of the company consists in installing a fresh Windows 7 Professional 64-bits, instead of restoring HP system image. I can't get restoration disks and there is no restoration partition.
Many HP software has been installed during the fresh install process, but one is missing : HP Mobile Display Assistant.
I would need this software to perform color temperature adjustment, as the screen color temperature is currently very, very cold.

Unfortunately, whatever the HP MDA version I'm trying to install, I get the following error message during installation process :
"This program requires Internet Explorer 6 or above."
    Then installation quits.

I have stock IE11 ; after many searches, I found either registry tweaks consisting in changing IE version ID, or use of compatibility modes... None of these tweaks worked for me.
A few other users have similar problems and posted threads on HP support forums few months ago, but got no answers.

    1) Did anyone encountered the same problem, but managed to install HP MDA anyway ?

    2) Do you know if HP MDA settings could be changed through the use of a Virtual Machine (running Windows XP or an older version of W7) then be persistent out of the Virtual Machine, within my current W7 ?

    3) Otherwise, do you know if investing in a display calibration tool (e.g. through Xrite I1display Pro) would give good results even if current panel color temperature is way too cold ?

Thank you very much in advance for your help !

Supposedly the latest version ( 2.11 Rev C) can install on Windows 7 + IE11, but crashes on program startup. If your did that too, I would try running in compatibility mode for Vista (which should force IE8).

Otherwise, maybe contact Portrait Displays Tech Support here to see if they can replicate the problem and release an update to their software.

Thank you very much win32asmguy ! Unfortunately compatibility mode did not work on the latest version... I'll contact Portrait Displays today (thanks for the link !) and describe them the problem. Hope they will be able to replicate the problem and give a fixe or release an update... I'll keep you informed !

Thats unfortunate. I don't think its possible to use the MDA from within a virtual machine. Portrait Displays says the Nvidia / AMD driver has to be loaded for it to work. With the DC2 panel, it does "keep" the selected profile between boots, so in theory you could use an external HDD loaded with Windows 7 + an older IE to use the MDA to calibrate your panel. I don't know if the DC1 panels work the same way but its certainly possible.

An Xrite I1display Pro should work, too. HP has a special version of their software available to download which can interface with the DC2/DC1 panels IIRC.
