Hi, i've bought a second hand 8510p, and I installed Windows 7 Ultimate on it.

I noticed that when you close the laptop the screen doesn't turn off and Windows doesn't suspend.

It can be only suspended using the menu on Windows, so it suspends properly but not with the lid sensor.

The laptop was reconditioned and it has signs that the screen and/or inverter has been changed (some missing rubber caps, some missing screws, and the plastic is slightly bent on the rear of the display frame, where the screws in the corners are).

I opened the screen frame to check if the sensor is working, according to the service manual it's near the power button, with the volume buttons and leds cover removed. Although the manual doesn't state clearly where the lid sensor is, I can't find anything near the place.

I also noticed that the inverter is missing the ambient light sensor, where it should be placed, there's solder pads instead the actual sensor. There are no signs of desoldering of the piece.

I think that they put a wrong inverter model that works but doesn't do the lid switch function properly, as I read that lid switches not working could be the cause of a faulty inverter.

Could that be the case? or just the lid switch is faulty or is in another place or it's missing from my laptop for some reason?

I believe that you already changed the setting in what the computer will do when the lid is closed. Yes, it's most probably hardware problem

Yes, Windows has already been set up to suspend when the laptop is closed, I've checked that.

If it's a hardware problem, what can I do to solve that?

Can it be a BIOS setting? Unfortunately, I can't access to BIOS settings because they are password-protected and I don't know the password.
