I have an nc2400 that I can't for the life of me figure out what is wrong with it. I have two power adapters one is brand new. I have 2 batteries one is old and the other is brand new. New battery is good and has a charge.
With the laptop plugged in, it powers on but Windows 7 says no battery detected, thus won't charge the battery. If I unplug the cord after booting into windows, the laptop still runs but the battery light flashes constantly and windows still thinks its plugged in. If I try and boot with just the battery plugged in, the battery light flashes about 7 times but it never turns on. If I pull the plug after post it boots into windows but again does not recognize the battery and the light flashes.
I have tried the whole shutdown, pull battery, hold power button thing. I have tried removing and reinstalling the ACPI battery driver. Tried differnt combination of both batteries and adapters. Nothing has worked. I guess it has to be a hardware issue as just booting on battery doesn't even post. Only thing I can think of is the power jack might be bad. But if the jack was bad I would think it wouldn't let me boot while plugged in. I don't have to wiggle the cable around either for it to recognize the power adapter.
Any help greatly appreciated.
*edit* I also tried installing the latest HP bios. Which did nothing.

Anyone ?? Ideas??

Likely a motherboard issue.

Anything that can be replaced? I just picked up a new mobo on ebay, but if i can get this one working that's what I would prefer.

Just curious, was there ever a time where this issue didn't occur when running Windows 7? How long have you had Windows 7, and how long has this issue existed?

Well new motherboard fixed it. Wish I knew what was wrong with the original mobo.

Glad you got that fixed.
As for what actually happened, those things can be very hard to diagnose and pinpoint considering your symptoms. Could have been a blown component that stopped the system from recognizing and negotiating with the batt. And without schematics, the easiest route is always to replace a subsystem or motherboard.
