The xx60P series WWAN will not work on the xx40P machines, nor is a non-whitelist bios available for either. So yes, require a xx40P-specific WWAN card. Can see an example of the 2560P WWAN/wifi whitelist details here.

Worth noting that a 2530P does have a modified non-whitelisted bios so could which allows use of whatever WWAN/wifi card you wish. Could ask HP for a refund due to a non-universal WWAN slot so could get a 2530P instead. They are readily available on ebay for < $300 and imho is HP's best ultraportable to date.

The Sierra MC8780/MC8781 works in a 2530P with the modified, unwhitelisted bios that is available for it. It will not work in a 2540P because only there has been no successully modified bios for it made available. Only the HP cards in the whitelist will work. Can determine what they are by looking at the accessories or spare parts list for your 2540P.

I got a company-issued 2540p. Am getting used to the buttons and keys being different than my Dell (e.g., HATE pg up and pg dn sitting on top vs. on the side) and I really loath my inability to take off my battery when I dock with this unit - which means I have to hibernate, which takes a million years. One thing that really gets my goat is the erratic behavior of the on-off button. Since, as I said, I hibernate, when I go to turn it on again, I don't know what the magic touch is to turn power back on. Is it a quick push, holding it down, left or right side of the button, or is it the middle? Regardless what I do, it'll behave differently the next time. And of course when it doesn't respond, sometimes the thing is actually rebooting after I've tried a few different things - I HAVE lost work this way, the recovery process notwithstanding. Fellow-sufferers out there? Any tips on how to handle this capricious trait? Thanks.

    2540p recovery discs
    Hello all

I've recently bought a 2540p i7-640LM through a private sale, upgrading from a 2510p. The 2540p has had the recovery partition removed and no recovery discs provided. The installed OS does not match the HP Windows 7 Professional license, thus I am effectively without an OS for the 2540p. I have a valid 2540p Windows 7 Professional 32 bit HP license (Windows 7 Professional OA 584048-001 X16-96076 00186-100-204-866) as placarded on the laptop's base but no recovery discs or matching OS. According to the original dispatch note, the laptop had been first sold with VL796AV Windows 7 Pro32 Office Ready 2007 O/S 2540p factory image. HP Australia cannot provide the recovery discs. There are no alternative domestic options and I have no access to international resources.

Can anyone help with means for me to get a copy of the HP factory image X16-series recovery discs to match my existing license?

If not that, any advice about using my existing license with other Windows 7 Professional versions (eg an X15-series or X17-series Windows 7 downloadable from Digital Life) is welcome.

I have a 2540p with a i7 and a optical drive. I bought the expansion bay for a regular size laptop hard drive but it seems it's not fitting, Any suggestions or experience with this?

See secondary hard drive HP 2540p vs Lenovo X201s . A 2.5" 9.5mm SATA HDD should fit in the optical bay caddy. A 2.5" 12.5mm drive is too tall so will not fit.

EDIT: Found this in the comment section and it resolved it.

Fixed. I removed the keyboard and I guided the HDD SATA connector from upper side by my fingure when I inserted the carrier and it fit completely. Now, I can use bothe USB and HDD. Thanks!

2510P, 2530P, 2540P and 2560P are all delivered with a 65W AC adapter. There are larger 90W and 120W adapters with the same end that can be used but are not as portable.

The reason I'm asking is because I'm noticing strange behaviour.

When I plug in the adapter, the power LED indicator in the bottom left does not turn on but it only turns on when actually charging, can you confirm this correct behaviour?

Just out of interest, has anyone tried to install 16GB (2x 8GB) of RAM into the 2540p, will it work? Reason for asking is that, I wanted to install a virtual machine on my laptop and allocate more RAM to it without hindering normal performance...

Just bought a second hand 2540p (nice!) with a standard voltage CPU.

All ready upgraded the memory (2x4GB) and a SSD. When checking the memory i noticed the space (where normally a 1,8" HDD is). Is it possible to add a HDD (or some sort) even though I got a standard voltage CPU.

I got my 2540p today and installed my Bulletproof SSD and noticed that there is only one SO-DIMM slot, is the other one under the keybord right? What SO-DIMMs kan the 2540p handle? Like 1866MHz..

Thanks. Discovered that the guy I bought it from has bougt a 2x4GB Corsiar 1333MHz kit, and only installed one 4GB module, so if I want 8GB in total of the same kit, I have to buy a 2x4GB kit :/

Installed a 64GB Bulletproof SSD. Windows has about 40GB while Ubuntu Core 11.10 (Gnome-Shell only) has 20GB. The Quck Launche buttons don't work as well tho. Can adjust the volume, but not turn of the trackpad :(
Horrible with all those LEDs all over the device! On my 2510p they were at least turned off when not in use..

Will a 2510p keyoard fit the 2540p? Or is it just the 2530p that can have the use of the 2510ps keyboard?

Only the nc2400, 2510P and 2530P have compatible keyboards. 2540P is different as found here, which suggests the 2540P semi-chiclet keyboard is a step backwards.

    Hi

I get an Hp Elitebook 2540p that doesn't have a built in camera.

I have seen other models that have a camera, but mine doesn't but i have the space in the monitor where it goes.

Is it possible to get one and installed? If the answer is yes where do i get one and how do i install it.

    Thank you very much

You can buy the laptop screen that is already fitted with a webcam and replace your current screen.

    Replacement screen $75

Alternatively, you can buy a webcam and a bezel with a webcam hole and try and install it yourself.

    Webcam $29.93
    Bezel $32.93

Hi there experts... I have the 2540p with a tiny 80gig 1.8 inch SSD hard drive, and low voltage processor. Great PC, but I need a bigger HD.
What is the largest capacity 1.8 inch HD I can put into my machine ?
I saw a PDF from over a year ago that listed 320gig as the biggest available, that cant be correct can it?
Ideally I'd like to install a 500g or 640g SATA drive... Thanks!

The largest 1.8" microsata drive on ebay is 320GB. REF: 1.8 320GB, 400GB, 500GB, 640GB sata, microsata | eBay . If you want a larger drive then consider swapping out the optical drive so can host a 2.5" 9.5mm SATA one using a optical bay caddy. There are generic ones on ebay or can get a HP 2540P specific one that adds a matched faceplate and an extra USB port.

Hi, I'm new to the forum. I have had a 2540p since before the beginning of the summer a month or two. Very good computer. Now to the reason for my post, I have a remote controll, to be exact Amazon.com: Wireless USB PC Remote Control Mouse for PC: Computers & Accessories that I want to build in to the computer, so it becomes internal, but still have a good range, can somebody explain how this can be done? and does this computer have an internal usb?

To fill in with some information, I have the model: WK303EA#AK8
I have a built in optical drive that came with the computer (a dvd burner)

Another thing, is there some module that can be installed to make the dvd-burner able to burn lightscribe pictures on disc compatible with lightscribe?

Definitely the best way to go. I got the caddy and put in a 750gb WD Scorpio Black. Alternatively, you can go for the 1TB Scorpio Blue but it is only 5200 RPM as opposed to the 7200 RPM in the Black.

    Dear fellow 2540p owners,

I have been thinking about exchanging the standard optical drive that my 2540p came equiped with and replace it with an internal Bluray writer instead.
After some research I concluded that there are not really many Bluray writers out there in the ultra slim 9.5mm form factor. Actually, I found only one, the relatively new Panasonic UJ-267 (also referred to as the Mata UJ-267 sometimes).
    See specs here:
Panasonic UJ-267 9.5mm Internal SATA Slot Load Blu-Ray Writer for Unibody MacBook Pro and other Windows Laptops: Amazon.co.uk: Computers & Accessories

Its safe to assume that the UJ-267 can be put on a Macbook Pro ( Blu-ray No Longer a 'Bag of Hurt' for Macs) and the Amazon page I linked says that the drive "Fits SONY/DELL and other brands of computers that take a slot-in load 9.5mm drive (measure the height of your current drive it should be 9.5mm)".

Looking through the requirements of the drive and applying them to the 2540p, I figure:
    9.5mm --> yes
    SATA --> yes
    slot-in --> ???

Now my question is if the HP 2540p would take such a slot-in drive? After all the standard optical drives that the 2540p comes with are tray-loaded drives with a bezel.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this with me!

Hi, anyone tried the 2540P with a Innodisk 1.8" SSD ? I have no access to the quoted SSD brands in this region so this was the only market option.

Been wrecking my brains out the couple of days trying to figure out why the system does not recognise the SSD. Original drive when place back was okay.

    System BIOs is F.23.

SSD drive is working fine thru USB via SATA adapter.

Hope someone can enlighten me where to look for answers.

I have an elitebook 2540p, I have loved it but about a year ago it started having serious overheating problems. I have a cooling pad with a fan in it, but for extended periods of time I have to move the drive area directly over the fan. And even then, sometimes it will reboot, and it reboots to NonSystem Disk or Disk Error. If I let it cool fully I can boot it again, but surely this is doing damage.

    Any suggestions?

Time to answer my earlier question - whole display unit of 2530p is physically compatible with 2540p body, not sure about the actual panel. Will confirm later

Nejones: If only HDD overheats, then maybe its time to switch hdd? Its bearings might be damaged and causing the overheating.

Yes, I had to reset my BIOS to Factory Defaults, then shutdown and remove the battery for 5 minutes. When I was told to do so, I laughed, :err: but when I powered it back up and it worked, I was a believer. I hope the same works for you. Good Luck.

    Hi all!

A friend gave me a dead 2540p in the hope I could get it working again. When I press the power on button the fan spins up for about a second and then the unit shuts down again. There are 4 LEDs across the front left of the unit, wireless, power, a lightning-bolt icon (I don't know what this is!) and hdd LED. All of these LEDs light up apart from the power LED, (2nd from left). The nightlight beside the web cam is also perfectly functional during this 1 - 2 second period before it shuts down. All of the touch smart icon LEDs above the keyboard light up as well. There is no activity on the screen at all, no beeps or anything else.

I tested the HDD in another laptop and it works fine, I tried to start with the ram chips removed, also removed the CD rom drive too and still have the same issue. Tried removing the battery and holding the power switch down for a minute and then re-starting but still the same problem, the fan starts for about a second and then all power shuts down. I was also using the power supply from my fully functional 2530p.

Does anyone have any idea what may be wrong? I would've guessed the motherboard was dead but the fact that the LEDs and webcam light work perfectly during those first couple of seconds may hint at something else. I haven't opened the laptop up yet but will get round to it soon, but even then I wouldn't know what else to try! Is this one a write-off?

    Thanks.

I have tried everything to make my 2530p recognize the battery!
New BIOS 22, hard reset, uninstall APCI and checking contacts. Nothing helps.
    The battery is new.
    Windows 7 Ultimate.
It works ok with only the battery but will not start on battery alone.

    Anyone got a suggestion?:hi2:

Anyone hear a humming sound when the fan is on with their machine?
The hum is in addition to the airflow out of the vent. I'm not refering to the airflow which is normal when the fan spins.
You can hear the hum only when facing the machine. If you turn the machine over or move away from the screen the hum is no longer audible. But it is only present when the fan is on.
So my big question is, is it fan related or resonance related?
It is definately due to the fan and is incredibly distracting!

Please, what are your experiences people?

I also received a dead 2540p with exactly the same symptoms, have you ever figured out what was wrong? I assume the motherboard is dead and would need replacing but if not I would love to hear as I'm not sure if it's actually worth fixing otherwise. Have you ever gotten yours running again?

    Greetings from Lima, Peru !!!

I am trying to help a friend who has an i7 2540P with 4GBs RAM, 250GBs HDD and optical drive. He is looking into replacing the HD with an SSD, maintaining the optical drive. I have been searching around for different options but there are so many variables for SSD drives these days that it is confusing.

What would be the best 1.8 inch SSD option available for this case, ideally over 300GBs (closer to 500GBs if possible) ?

Currently the machine's OS is Windows 8.1 Update1 and running quite nicely but storage is starting to be a problem.

Many thanks in advance for your help!

jcc2, I prefer the Crucials series of SSDs. I believe there is a 1.8" version of the Crucial C400 series in 512GB that would work for you. Cheers.

I'm also posting this from my first HP Elitebook, a 2540p as one would expect. My migration from the Dell Latitude E6400 is going well however I am slightly disappointed in the PCIe whitelist on the wlan/wwan adapters...can't use my Ultimate-N 6300. :( Oh well, otherwise everything seems to work well, I just wish I had the combination eSATA/USB port instead of just a USB port but I'm sure an expresscard eSATA or USB3 adapter will work wonderfully. I'm using an aftermarket power adapter and it gets startlingly hot...I'll try to shop around for a better one I suppose.

    Hello from Sweden!

    I run a 2540p, I updated to 4GB RAM and SSD from Samsung. (840)

The computer feels much faster but unfortunately do not windos 8.1 update work perfectly.
WLAN works unstable, it finds about three out of four web pages. (if I update I will also be the fourth web page)

With Widnos 7, everything works perfectly. Anyone experienced similar problems? I run 64 bit.
