    Hi everyone,

there is a chance of getting a 2540p rally on the cheap. Acutally I own a 2530p with two nearly brand-new 93Whrs batteries. Can anyone confirm whether (or not) they will fit the 40p model? Replacing everything will consume too much money which I like to avoid. Any help or hint is highly appreciated.

    Best wishes,
    Kennerd

I bought a 2540P from eBay and it is exhibiting a strange issue.

The CPU fan does not come on or spin up at all when running on battery power regardless of whether Active or Passive Cooling are selected in Advanced Power Options for the active profile so the CPU temperature just climbs up to the max of 105c and the machine shuts off. I'm using Windows 7 Professional SP1 and I have the chipset drivers and Intel Management Engine installed.

The "Fan always on when on AC power" option is enabled in the BIOS and if I disable it the fan just fails to come on at all whether on AC or not.

The BIOS version I was using was F20 from 2011 and I updated to the most recent F50 (dated 07/08/2014) to see if it resolved the issue but it did not.

I found a forum thread relating to the issue here cpu fan not working on battery. - HP Support Forum - 3002595

It seems that enabling the CTRL-P during POST to enter AMT Settings lets you enable something called ME State which restores functionality of the fan but I am unable to do this.

I have to take the battery out and leave off for a few seconds then connect only AC power without battery and switch on. I am then able to access the AMT Options in the BIOS (which was greyed out when the battery intact).

Unfortunately for me when I enable ctrl-p access it does not prompt me during POST as it is supposed to and nothing happens when I press ctrl-p during post either so I cannot enable ME State because I cannot reach the menu to do so.

Any ideas what might be causing this? Has anyone else experienced it and resolved it?

    Hello again
After some testing i find that the wland driver for windows 7 is working best with windows 10, drivers for w8.1 is not as fast as the one for w7.
    Please try and report back.

I bought a 2540p from eBay to replace my dead 2510p. Anyway, I put Windows 10 technology preview on it today. Just like dave_333 mentioned, the installation process was smooth (less than 30 minutes). All basic functions seem to work (wifi, audio, video). I don't have problem with wifi driver. There are two unknown devices on Device Manager.

This 2540p is going to be my web browsing machine from a couch, so I don't really worry about fingerprint reader or smart card reader driver.

Much testing but now works with Win 10 3g.

    1. Download a newer version of HP Connection Manager 4.5.29.1
    2. Update drivers modem (by HP Connection Manager)
    3. Unzip the file and install manually:

, now works perfect for me

hi all, i'm having some trouble finding a 2x4GB kit of ddr3-1600 with cl9 compatible with our lovely 2540p. i bought Kingston HyperX KHX1600C9S3P1K2/8G but they're not compatible at all and as well any ram with chip density of 4Gbit since Intel QM57 Chipset is not capable of using this technology. any suggestion? thank you

hi again, if anyone needs this info, i confirm that CRUCIAL SODIMM DDR3 4GB PC3 1600 CT51264BF160B 1.35V 2x4GB is fully compatible with 2540p i7 (energy star/low voltage) model, bios F.50

    ram.jpg

not incredibly fast comparing to CAS9 ram but it really boosted the machine. i suggest as well to use ramdisk by radeon and set a 2048mb partition where to move browser/photoshop/OS cache

    Hello,
I have a 2540p i7-640 low voltage with a 1.8" 160-GB hard drive (5400-rpm, SMART SATA II) and I need to upgrade with a more size SSD.
I believe that the better way is to replace the micro sata 1,8" HD with a msata SSD (i.e. 840 EVO Samsung 250gb) but using a mSATA-to-microSATA adapters. Isn't it?
Can you confirm that the 2540p, in the 1.8-in hard drive bay, can work with a SSD bigger that 160gb (in the manual there is only 160-GB and 80-GB solid-state drive)?

    Thanks
    Giuseppe

Why not just use a standard size 1.8" SSD in there?
Capacity of the disk is not an issue.

The spec of the disk was listed at the time of print.

OK, it is surely the easy way but some shops tell me that 1,8'' are out of production or otherwise at high prices.
Can you suggest me some good models of SSD (1.8" micro sata of about 250gb) compatible with the 2540p?

    Thanks

Here is a 240GB Micro SATA 1.8" by Kingston. It will be a direct swap.
    Amazon.com: Kingston Digital, Inc. SSDNow KC380 240GB SSD Micro SATA 3 1.8-Inch SKC380S3/240G: Computers & Accessories

I used the 120GB version of this disk on my 2540p i7 (energy star/low voltage), and it works flawlessly.
Amazon.com: Kingston Digital, Inc. 120GB SSDNow KC380 Micro SATA 3 1.8 Solid State Drive (SKC380S3/120G): Computers & Accessories
I got it for 100 bucks when it was on sale in July of 2014.

Why do you say that it's better to use an adapter from mSATA to MicroSATA adapter?

    Hi There,
I've got an HP 2540p laptop, and was hoping to replace the optical drive with a SSD in a caddy.
I was wondering whether it supports booting from an optical drive, and whether there is any loss in read/write speed in using this as opposed to an internal drive.
    Thanks

    Hey guys,

I'm having issues with fan noise on my 2540p. The fan comes on almost immediately after boot up and is quite loud. I've unchecked "run fan while on AC power" in the F10 setup on boot, so that is not the issue.

I've also used HWiNFO64 to reduce the fan speed to a slightly more acceptable level. But reading the review of this laptop on this site implies that the fan rarely ever came on, whereas in my case it is on all the time.

I have tried cleaning out the fan with compressed air. Anything else I can try? Is it possible to replace the fan?

FYI, currently for instance the CPU is at 47 degrees C, and the fan is running at 3170 RPM (which is reduced from the default of around 5,000 rpm by HWInFo).

HP Probook/Elitebook BIOS Password Reset [Utility]. It says it is compatible with 2530p and 2560p among many models. Worked for 2560p in my case. Says nothing about 2540p though, but you can try

    hello together,
hopefully i'm on the right place with my question.
after using for a long time my 2540p more or less satisfied.
now unfortunately the speakers has a defect, when i use earphones or external speakers the sound is okay. so i come to the conclusion to change the internal speakers, so this is the point where i hope to get some support. is there maybe a guide to do this? i search with uncle g*** but don`t found, just for the 2530p i found a Video on YouTube

    Hi,

Does anybody have a problem in which the laptop's keyboard becomes unresponsive ( e.g : it types letters very slow, some letters do not work etc ). If i shut down the laptop, unplug and plug in the battery then power it up again, the problem is fixed till next time it occures.

If the laptop is running without a battery the problem does not occure.

I have the latest bios update. Fresh windows 8.1 install.

    Hello.

Does anybody updated your notebook to Windows 10 with clean install? How is situation with drivers?
I want to perform clean install of Windows 10 in VHD, and Windows Server 2012/2016 in different VHD's side by side. The only drivers available on HP website is for Windows 7 - i've they working done in Windows Server 2008R2 SP1, but not possible to install in Windows Server 2012.
Also i want to upgrade BIOS to latest version.
Security configured now for using fingerprint, on startup also - will i need to turn it off?

What is the best way for me to upgrade to Windows 10/Windows Server 2012/2016, and where to get all drivers and additional software - there is only Windows 7 versions of drivers/software available on HP website.
