Here is an Owner's Lounge for those of us that took the plunge on the new EliteBook 8460p that came out on March 15.

500 GB 7200 rpm 2.5-inch hard drive
LightScribe DVD+/-RW SuperMulti DL Drive
Intel Centrino Advanced N 6205 802.11a/b/g/n
Says it will be shipped on April 5th, but the rep that I spoke with said to expect it sooner. -
Very interesting. I was at the site this morning. I missed the 14" model. This definitely has my attention. I like the express slot and the upgrade bay option.
I look forward to your reviews. -
Anyone know if this model has 1 free PCI Express Mini Card port for Intel 310 SSD and supports the mSata over pcie
-
I will post a review once I get it and I will answer any questions that I can once I get the laptop. I am really excited and can't wait to get my hands on it!
-
I'd really like to know, if the Elitebook 8460p supports Port Multipliers on its E-Sata port and that one of the refering docking station (i.e. Advanced 120W). The question regarding an SSD on a miniPCIe port sounds interesting as well
And does Ubuntu 10.10 work on this machine? -
I've had a few questions as well. First of all how that discrete Radeon works with linux and is it possible to use integrated intel 3000 hd gpu (that would be awesome). Also is amd capable of displaying 4 desktops on two monitors (or even better is it possible with integrated gpu).
-
The suspense is killing me not hearing actual user experience on this baby since units have been shipping since a week ago, March 15. Allo out there!
I tried to find a support forum on HP.com to monitor issues coming in but have not been successful locating one there or anyplace else. Anyone? -
I know Duffin, I was waiting for user reviews to pull the trigger but I gave up on waiting. I guess everyone has to be a pioneer sometime.
Ever since last week on the 16th the computers have said that it will take two weeks to ship so it would seem that no one actually has their hands on one yet other than apparently PCMAG since they have a youtube video already up. -
Thanks,
Tom
PS 8460p with quadcore and blueray is my current favorite -
Here is the link to the best "review" that I have seen so far. YouTube - HP EliteBook 8460p Hands-on Overview
Here is a link to their actual review with some decent pictures as well. Hopefully they will follow up with an actual review soon.

Are you referring to a date shown post-purchase? -
-
-
Did it really come out on the 15th of March in the US?
I'm located in Europe and wounder why I don't here more about the 8460p...
BR,
Tom -
Apparently, Quad Core models are exclusive for US market only. I checked several major European markets and all have specs up to 2620M dual cores. Without a quad core CPU, this is a no go for me. I was ready to accept some more weight just to get a QM CPU. Otherwise, there are plenty of ultra-light laptops with powerful dual cores, like Lenovo X201/X220 or HP EliteBook 2540p.
-
Yeah, I would like to have a Quad Core but I couldn't justify the cost of getting the custom machine and the Battery Life of the Dual Core should be better. I'm sure that the 8460w will have quad cores in their standard configuration but I'm still of the belief that most programs today can't utilize the potential of such a processor. I'm sure that in the next few years that will change very quickly however so I am just giving myself a reason to upgrade in a couple of years
-
By Dell D820 is so unstable, I am rolling the dice and have ordered the Base Pre-Config XU060UT.
I also added the following to my order:
• Upgrade warranty to U4414E (adds onsite)
• HP 90W Docking Station VB041UT
• HP Standard Monitor Stand PA507UT
I will swap out hard drive as soon as the OCZ Vector 3's are released (see Tom's Hardware review vs Intel's).
Then time will tell if I need to add more memory. Unit hopefully will be here 1st week of April.
Hopefully I wont have heat issues while on my lap. Maybe that is why they are called Notebooks vs Laptops any longer. lol -
Does anyone know, if the new Elitebooks support EFI/UEFI? That would be great
-
-
Mine is saying that it won't be here until the 10th now so I called the sales rep. He said that it should still get here soon but I am losing faith in this system
I really need the machine to get here soon or I am going to have to look around for something else :/
-
I have been assuming that there is space unless HP puts in their own custom size for the SSD they offer under the configurator. -
-
Just called again today to try and find the progress of the order. They said that it had been dropped to the factory. They also assured me that it would be here this week and then gave me a $150 credit for the trouble. Just a few more days now
-
Any chance we could get added to the official owner's lounge sticky? Pleaseeee
-
Any idea of the brightness/contrast/color gamut of the LCD on these models?
Thanks guys! -
HP EliteBook 8440w: On-the-Go Workstation - AnandTech :: Your Source for Hardware Analysis and News
It says that it isn't anything spectacular but it really just depends on what you are using the machine for I guess. Since I will be using mine for websurfing and MATLAB programming, it will work just fine. -
Just read something that has me pretty excited on
HP's Business Notebook Hat Trick - AnandTech :: Your Source for Hardware Analysis and News
"but AMD has apparently introduced technology comparable to NVIDIA's Optimus that enables switching between the Sandy Bridge IGP and the dedicated AMD graphics."
Hopefully this is true because I would love to be able to switch back and forth between the two for better battery performance like I used to on my Envy 14. -
LCD quality is unfortunately tops on my list, as I want a screen I can see outdoors as well, but without a huge laptop to lug around at that. Sure wish more of these manufacturers placed the panel quality higher among their priorities. -

-
Does anyone know if the 6470m in the 8460p has the mxm interface?
-
I'm just thinking if it wouldn't make more sense to go for the HD3000 instead of the 6470m.... because as much as I could find out that 6470m is quite midrange.
Bye,

I am worried about that integrated card. Everyone always tests 3d capabilities these days. I have Lenovo T61p with Nvidia Quadro FX 570m dedicated GPU which should be powerfull like the captain planet himself. But when I plug in second external display and use both screens in dual view (which makes my screen about 3448px x 1152px even browser lags (not to mention terminal or playing youtube). Same thing applies when i just connect my 23" 2048x1152 display and disable internal lcd but the lag is smaller then. If HD 3000 can handle that two displays easily then the choice would be easy. Also which somehow confirms my doubts is that all models with higher internal lcd resolution come with radeon. There are no models with 1600x900 and hd 3000.

I should have my machine on Friday of this week and then I can check it out for you guys. I will have an unboxing video up by Friday evening (assuming it does get here) and then I will update with more pictures and answers as I can.
-
-
Yeah, don't forget to name the video correctly, so we can find at all times.
Thanks -
Here is an hand's-on from notebookcheck.com. It is in german, so use a traductor.
Hands-On: HP EliteBook 8460p / ProBook 4530s - Notebookcheck.com Tests
Pretty nice, more interesting than the Dell e6420.
Hope to see a review soon. -
Im very curious to find out the real battery life of the 8460 and the new Probooks 6460.
32 hours is just a theoretical value. -
Can you please test the DPC Latency?
-
Well they are still assuring me that it will be here Friday but I haven't seen any status change or gotten a shipping notification. Not looking good
-
I bought mine through Tech Data and it shows arriving CA warehouse Thursday. Probably will ship to my site Friday for Monday delivery.
-
Anyone knows whether the new 8x60p series support SATA-3 (6Gb/s)?
-
My other question is whether the Intel RST (RAID) is enabled. I've been putting off ordering a replacement for almost a year now waiting for "the perfect machine". The 8560w I'm anticipating being that very thing. (Come one HP.... sooner than July please!) I would like to put two SATA III SSD's in it in a RAID 0 stripe set. Yes, I realize that means no support for TRIM, but I'm hoping Intel releases a new version of RST with TRIM support for SSD's that in a RAID array by then too...
The hoping and wishing game is killing me -
Any chance 8460P will get quadcore? (Or 8560P)
-
-
or if it can run SC2 better than my current setup
(And ofc what the price difference is going to be between, T420, T520, W520, 8460W etc)
