I've heard that hp is going to launch new 2560p. What do you think? I've never used 12" laptops is it usable? Sure it will be much smaller and lighter.

Well I have bad news, Friday came and went and no laptop
I had to cancel the order and the only sandy bridge laptop with any respectable specs was a MacBook Pro. So now I sit typing on my new 15" MBP and it will do just fine.
Good luck to the rest of you.
-
I also have had a bad experience with HP. They shipped my docking station to the wrong state and the 8460p wasn't shipped when they promised. The strange thing was they sent me an email saying the computer was shipped. I called Friday and the guy assured me that it would ship soon. I am going to cancel my order and get it from CDW. They told me that they have 20 (XU060UT#ABA) in stock in Chicago, which is the exact model I have been waiting for since 3/17.
HP is a mess. -
Watching that video, it looks like the display has a very blue/purple tint like so many HP laptops do
.

Trying to get the 8460p with 16GB RAM thru US online config or HP sales rep has failed. I need more than 8GB RAM for running virtual machine servers. I know they can do it! I have a 8440w w/ 16GB. HP isn't saying that it is a delay/new model thing or anything. I've had multiple reps just tell me they can't do it. My team was about to order a couple more 8440w's, but waited for the 8460p sandybridge to be released. The Rep Says he's still trying to get me that configuration. I know it's a new model, but offering 8GB dimm sticks is needed this day in time.
I noticed that you can't config the machine with i7-2820QM in the online config either. The specs say the 8460p supports that too. Don't see that available w/ either 84/8560p.
Any other region able to get 16GB RAM on a 8460p or 8560p out there? -
Hi,
I'd like to purchase a model with Quad-Core, Bluray and if possible without Windows, if it saves money. However, custom builds of the Elitebook are very expensive.
- Standard Model: 999$
- Standard Model (custom build): 1512,9$ (18% discount included)
- My Model (custom build): 1773,66$ (18% discount included)
- Standard Model + components costs: 1259,76$
That are 500$ for assemblying! I've chatted with a sales representive and he's told me that there is no room for further discounts.
So what are your experiences? Is this true? Are there cheaper ways to get this configuration?
My Build:

What is the model number of the DVD drive used in the 8460p and what is the height (9.5mm vs. 12.7mm)? Does anyone know if this is the same drive in the 8560p?

Perhaps someone has the email adress of a "good sales rep" -
Still no quad core in europe :S
-
Where can I buy a HP 8460p in Canada?! It is not on hp.ca and I dont want to buy international.
Thanks! -
Still no one has it hands-on? Dissapointing...

Besides, I am no laptop reviewer. -
I was torn between this and the Lenovo T520 since only the 15" Lenovo supports quad core processors. Ultimately, I decided 15" was too big and ordered online:
HP EliteBook 8460p Notebook PC, with Mobile Intel® QM67 chipset, and AMD Radeon HD 6470M w/1 GB gDDR3

The ship date isn't until the 21st, but I'll be out of town until nearly then. I also bought a discounted Win 7 Pro license and am going to throw in some aftermarket RAM: 2 sticks of 4 GB (hopefully there is access to more than one slot). I'm also considering buying an SSD but I'll probably hold off on that for awhile. -

Could you share your thoughts about:
1. screen quality
2. keyboard convinience +/-
3. average battery life
4. heat and loud of the laptop.
Thanx! -
- What screen res did you get, and how bright does it seem to be? (very subjective I know but still curious)
- How hot and noisy does it seem to get under load?
- Is having the vent on the right-hand side bothersome? (assuming you are a right-handed mouser)
- Any noticeable quirks to the overall system? Like a full-tilt fan speed after waking up from standby?
thank you! -
Hi,
congratulations!
I would like to know if mSATA is supported, to be able to run the intel 310 SSDs...
Thanks,
Tom -
2. Seems to handle cooling very well so far. Will try doing some more intensive things yet, but so far the fan is "on", but very quiet.
3. Hasn't bothered my yet, right handed. Fan is on, but it's not like a jet-stream.
4. To early to report. Literally got it like 2 hours ago. -

You've ignored my questions =( Do you like the keyboard? -
- do you have Radeon or intel only
- if you have radeon is it possible to switch it to internal graphics in bios or somewhere else?
- can you plug in high resolution external display and look how it performs (i heard that memorybus is only 64bit for radeon so this might be a bottleneck)
thanks! -
THE first!!
I hope you can shoot us some nice pictures of your beast.
I have questions :
1. How is the build quality and feel of the laptop?
2. Does the expresscard slot is the new 2.0 generation?
3. Does the screen has a better contrast than the 8440p?
4. How do you find the new style of elitebook?
5. Do you like it?
I will wait for some little reviews before buying one.
Thanks a lot! -
Okay, two things - if possible ;-)
1. Please look for the boot options in the bios... is there something like mSata device??? Or any other options that could lead to a possible hybrid system (=small SSD for System and large cheap regular hdd for anything else)
2. If you find time to look for a free "PCI Express Mini Cards" slot in the notebook then do so... it looks like a free port for WLAN card ... the size of the intel 310 SSD is 51 × 30 × 5 mm and it's available in 40 GB or 80 GB.
Here is a link: http://download.intel.com/design/flash/nand/324696.pdf
Thanks, have fun and bye,
Tom -
Pictures please......
-
this is important
"2. Does the expresscard slot is the new 2.0 generation?"
-
I hope the HP has it!!
Ohh I see a damn good laptop like the HP 8460p...with graphic capabilities of a higher end gaming laptop with geforce gtx 485m.....delicious!!!! -
solnyshok likes this.
-
... And Port Multiplying on its E-Sata, then I'd get rid of my desktop -
According to the manual : (page 31)
PCI Express 1.1 x1 to fully support ASPM L0s/L1 and CLKREQ.
NOTE: Intel 82579 PCIe interface is not PCIe compliant. It operates at half
of PCIe specification V1.1 (2.5GT/S) speed.
I'm presuming this refers to the expresscard slot but I'm not sure...
Anyone know if this will offer enough bandwidth to drive 2 x 30" monitors (5120x1600) for non-gaming work? (development/light movie watching) -
But sad if none of the new models (Both hp and thinkpad) have pci-e 2.0 now that the motherboard supports it
Anyone heard if the 8440p 1600x900 display is better than the T420 equivalent display? -
-
2. Not seeing a switch option in the bios or in windows.
3. I use 2 20" displays at relatively high resolution. Haven't seen any issue with it so far, but haven't done any gaming on it. -
2. Don't know.
3. Screen contrast seems definitely better, as most others in my office have the older gen 8440, 2440, and 6930's.
4. New style is cool, much simpler design. Wish it was thinner.
5. Like it so far. I have the standard 6-cell battery and Windows reports 4-5 hours thus far on a full charge. -
I spoke with a local HP "partner" in my area today and they said the 8460P in any configuration was still not available to order. I'm very close to the US border, normally I would just order in the states and have to delivered to a UPS store then drive across and pick it up (no taxes too)... but the HP US webstore will not take out of country credit cards.
If anyone in Canada manages to get their hands on one it would be much appreciated if they could share the info.
Typing this in a Dell 13" studio xps... for the love of god help! -

seth50k,
How is the text quality on the 1600x900 display? Is it possible that you can take a screen capture (one in 100% and 120%) of a news site using winsnap or other capturing tool? Text quality is very important since most of the time, I do lots of document writing and reading.
Ken -
I think the display is very bright and clear. It is much brighter than my 18 month old EliteBook 6930p at work. I also really like the keyboard and didn't have any problems getting used to it.
The touch pad is also much improved (larger size) over my 6930p. -
Great, congrats! Can you make some photos of the screen, or make a photo-comparison of the displays? By the way, don't you know whether this promo laptops are wwan ready?
-
Hey guys, are there any official reviews out for the 8460p yet? I need to buy a new laptop for grad school in the fall, so the purchase needs to be made by June~. I'm torn between offerings from HP and Lenovo (12-14") and I haven't been able to find any reviews for HP's new Elitebooks at all
Oh and is it possible to configure the Elitebooks w/o a huge markup in price? I see the cheapest option on HP's website is $999, but if I want to make custom changes w/o going with one of the recommended configurations, the price jumps up to $1900~. I'm used to being able to configure the PC to whatever spec I want on Dell and Lenovo's website, does HP not allow that? -
I have questions:
1. Does the expresscard is the version 2.0 that is 5 GT/s bandwight?
2. How is the build quality and look?
3. Do you like it?
And if you have picture or video, it would be so good to help us.
Thanks a lot!! -
-
I like the build quality and look. It feels solid and works great in the 120w advanced dock station.
I am running (2) 23" HP 2311x using displayPort to HDMI converter cables from monoprice.com.
I do like it. The weight is good.
I will take a picture tonight of it with my 6930p (same resolution) to compare the screens. -
if you can answer my first question tonight, It would be very nice, cause if it is an expresscard 2.0, I buy it! if not... I would pass my turn cause it is important to do a DIY vidock graphic card. -
I was going to get the Thinkpad T420 with HD+ display but two reported you can see spaces between the pixels. There is a screen of the space pixel effect below.
