Would love to see the screen comparison but it does not seem to show up on that link. Am I missing something?
-
-
If someone could share the e-mail of his sales rep, that would be awsome
-
Yea, I see the 18% off code. But even so, the price jump is ridiculous. All I wanted to add to the $999 configuration was 1600x900 screen and 9 cell battery...
I see, I will try calling in. Btw, does HP give EPP discounts on their business line of laptops? The EPP discount for my company's portal takes me straight to their pavillion line of laptops. -
Not for someone in Canada i'm afraid. I was able to get a "leave your contact info and the model# you want, and next month when our buyer comes in we will ask." From Staples...
HP's business partner model is not great up here for buying as a consumer. -
For all that were interested in mSATA (that's what you need for the new intel 310 SSDs) is not supported on any Elitebook so far.
I wrote an email to hp and that is the answer.
For anybody who has not answered questions here, I would recommend to write an E-Mail to hp!
BR,
Tom -
I gave you the wrong link and now I can't find it again. Basically do the screen looks smooth with no grid lines or dots popping up which is cause by a gap betwee pixels. This is called screen door effect.

Is it possible to disable descrete graphic card and use only INTEL HD in models with NVIDIA?
-
To be honest the T420s is realy an option to the 8460p; it seems quite a bit lighter, same price tag, similar hardware... I don't like the optik, but technically it seems even a bit more advanced...
Where do you see the pros and cons between these two?
Tom -
Do you mean with AMD? There are no NVIDIA GPU's in these elitebooks. And it seems that you can't disable discrete graphics. Only Probooks s-series allow that. (I hope that bios update will add that functionality but that is only my opinion)
I loved IBM's notebooks but after a while I can say that HP's have much better display hinges. My display was very dissapointing after 2 years of using T61p. In fact almost 6 year old hp nx6610 (a dinosaur) has more stable hinges than my thinkpad. Overall I think that HP has better build quality. And I think it looks better, and it might be important for someone. -
so I went into the BIOS and it allows me to switch expresscard from 1.0 to 2.0. It warns me that G2 is faster but may not be supported by my device. So it appears that generation 2 is supported.
Also the screen brightness on the 8460p is so much brighter than my 6930p, the pictures I take are blown out white on the 8460. -
Yeap, I'm so used to thinkpads with their Nvidia Optimus technolodgy, that don't even bother what gpu exactly installed in laptops
My mistake, sorry.
That's very bad, that it couldn't be disabled, cause I don't need it at all. But the only XU model hd+ is with AMD =(.Some reveiws also mention that AMD of that kind in HP 8460p are only 20% better than HD 3000.
And one more question. What are the differences between XU aтd LQ series of 8460p? I've found laptops with absolutely similar specs, but the price differs almost $700-800? AFAIK XU is promo, is it the only reason for the price? -
Has anyone tried to attach multiple Monitors to the Docking Station? Does it work with the 3000HD or just with the AMD GPU. Even the better, if it works with Linux (Ubuntu 10.10).
My plan is one VGA Display, one DVI Display and one HDMI beamer and of course the internal screen -
Any pics yet?
-
Sorry guys, what is that ExpressCard 2.0 about; where are the advantages? I googled it and it seems that 2.0 had been introduced 2008.. what you think we need that for?
Thanks,
Tom -
biketom69: It would allow you to attach a decently performing gpu via the expresscard slot for gaming/multimonitor work.
EDIT: Search for ViDock on the forum. -
Could you make some photos of the screen outside, in the street? Thanks.
I've also had a chat with hp tech specialist who told that switchable grahpic option is not avalable in 8460p and is not going to be anywhen.
What is the average battery life of surfing wlan with XU060UT#ABA? I guess, XU058UT#ABA should live much longer with intel HD and less productive CPU. -
I have an important question about the default 3/3/0 warranty: is it international? specifically, south africa? Could someone who has received one confirm?
-
HP Warranty - Warranty information
When I buy in the U.S. I have warranty in Germany. But only, if the specific model is available there too. -
The 8460p is available is SA, but not the customizable model available with a quad core processor. Will it still apply?
-
Does anyone have shipping box dimensions or weight?
-
no new reviews or anything?
-
An annoying problem keeps popping up on my unit. The touch pad freaks out and the cursor zooms across the screen and is unusable. The first time I saw it, a Windows update was just installed. The only fix I can figure out is to rollback the driver to a standard PS/2 mouse, which means none of the multi-touch stuff works. When I check Windows, it indicates I have the most current driver.
Once the touch pad starts to work I can then update to the proper driver and it will work for awhile and then revert to the crazy mode. I don't like having to use an external mouse on a new computer.
Any thoughts? -
We need pictures and/or videos, anyone?
Thanks -
All our usual suppliers show this backordered.

Is there any way to stop the fan from constantly running? I know there's a setting in the BIOS but this s has no noticeable effect. I have seen this w/ all HPs I've owned...the fan always runs.
-
Does the fan works constantly on 8460p that you own?
-
Does your fan always run too?
-
The fan is always under what I believe is no load (no applications running). I am surprised that hot air is still blowing when it's idle. And I turned off the "Fan always on under A/C power" in the BIOS. It's a great laptop but the fan noise is killing me.
-
Can I install a 2nd hard drive & run them in RAID 0?
-
Fan noise is definitely critical! Could you please provide more details. What Machine are you running, Processor, grafik... comparision to older hp notebooks if possible.
Thanks,
Tom -
Does anyone else have the same fan problem?
-
Fan problems is definately a deal breaker for me.
-
Hi,
can anybody please check, if the 8460p works flawlessly with Linux/Ubuntu?
Thanks
It has been confirmed, that it supports Port Multiplying -
Seems like hp's elitebooks aren't popular as much as thinkpads do. Where is the discussion? =((
-
The most active discussions have been happening on the 8740w and 8540w owner threads. The 8x60p series are just starting to ship, but the 8x60w workstations were only announced today and won't be shipping for probably more than a month. Additionally, the p series Elitebooks tend to be less active discussions (at least they have been since I've been hanging around here).
-
Kokanee where abouts are you? I too am on a Canada/US border (Windsor way).
-
I am a Canadian Reseller... my eta's are showing early May for the 8460p model. I too am waiting for one for my own use.
-
I freaking love my 2540p! It is very usable, mine is with the I7... it works great! The only thing I hate is when I pull it out and someone comments "oh a netbook". IT'S NOT A FREAKING NETBOOK, AND FAR FROM IT!!!
-
I just bought a HP 2530p and I came from a big 15'' notebook...and I just say that the small screen is nothing disturbing!
It is not too small, I do a lot of office and prgramming on it and it is not annoying. I love the light and small size. It is great to carry all around.
At home, I connect it to an external 24'' display and a DIY vidock graphic card, So I play games like crysis, F1 2010 and Battlefield bad company 2 on it nicely.
When the 2560p will be realesed, I will grab it for sure!! (if I like the new desing) -
Hey guys a little advice? I am an IT student and do a little of everything on my laptop (Movies, Web, MS Office, Programming, etc). I think I have made up my mind on getting the 8460p w/:
i7-2620(Dual Core), 4GB, 500 Gb and the 1600x900 screen
But then I was looking at the Envy 14. It looks like they are going to refresh soon so they are a little cheaper. The Envy would have:
i7-740QM(Quad), 6GB, 640GB and 1366x768
The savings is only about $200. What is the real performance diff between the 2? I am also interested in overall durability. I know the Elitebooks are built to Mil. standards which is pretty attractive.
Thanks for any feedback. I appreciate it.

Can anyone make some photos of the screen 1600x900 and 1366x768 of 8460p?

I am also looking for a 14" notebook for my wife. I already have a 8740W which can handle all of my photographic needs and anything in-between.
Was looking for the envy 14 refresh and the 8460p and 8460W. Assuming that E14 refresh comes in May along with 1600x900 or more resolution, the only difference between the 3 would be price, weight and warranty (given that its for regular use+slight gaming). We all know that HP business warranty service is top class and worldwide, but should one trade that for a higher price and weight?
I am going to wait a month to see if the E14 refresh comes and then decide.
If its absolutely needed to buy one today, then 8460P is better in terms of specs (USB3+sandy bridge) and also weight is slightly less than E14 depending on the config.
By the way, can u post the config of both along with price.? I am seeing more than $200 price diff after all discounts. Also 8460p with 30% discount on CTO is higher in price than smart buy options. Does the Smartbuy option have any hidden discounts over phone? -
I decided to just pull the trigger and order mine. I went with the 8460p. I used the smart buy option (XU060UT#ABA).
- Core i7-2620M
- 14 in 1600x900 Display
- AMD Radeon HD 6470M (1GB gDDR3)
- 4 GB 1333 MHz DDR3 SDRAM (1 Dimm)
- 500 GB 7200 HDD
The Envy 14 I was looking at was basically the one listed as the "Recommended Configuration". It would have been:
- Core i&-740QM
- 14.5 in 1366x768 Display
- ATI Radeon HD 5650 (1BG DDR3)
- 6 GB DDR3 (2 Dimm)
- 640 GB 7200rpm HDD
That one lists for $1259.99. I tried several coupon codes and none worked for me. -

Ok..got it. Usually with coupons the price drops to under $1000 for the E14. -
Hey! No reviews or photos?? We are a lot of people that are waiting for them to do the good choice...
I hope one of you, owner, will do a little something for us!!
-
My order has an estimated ship date of the 21st, so if that holds, I should have the laptop by the end of this week or next week. It's been two weeks since I placed the order, so I hope it comes as scheduled.
-
I've got the following machine on order, it should be here tomorrow:
HP SB 8460P I7-2620M 500GB 4GB W7P - XU060UT#ABA - Notebook Computers - CDW.com
Let me know what you want to know. -
We all want to get as full review as possible. The most interesting issues are:
1. Screen quality, brightness, sharpness, contrast, viewing angles. Please, make some photos of the screen.
2. Fan problem: do you have your fan allways on and is it loud and annoing?
3. Genereal feateres: workmanship and build-quality, your emotions about the design.
4. Keyboard typing-comfort.
5. Anything else you'll find interesting.
Thanks a lot!
PS. Is it WWAN ready? I'm planning to buy gobi modem.. -
Its end of April and we still don't have any real reviews/hands on... that really gets on my nerves. I think that's because of Japan, but... others got out there new models already!

My 8460p was supposed to ship today. Instead, I received this:
From the other threads in the HP forum, shipping delays are rampant.
