I have Ubuntu Linux 10.04 installed on my EliteBook 8540p. Today I suspended (to RAM) and took the laptop home. When I got home, I woke it up and for some reason the wake-up failed - the screen remained black. I had to hold down the power button to shut down.
Now every time it boots up, the WiFi adapter is disabled. According to nm-tool and "lshw -C network", the interface is detected and is valid, but it is somehow disabled, or "asleep".
Does anyone know how I can enable/wake-up the WiFi interface from Linux? I do not have any other operating system (e.g. Windows) installed.

Well, how odd - no amount of reboots, power-cycles or BIOS fiddling would restore WiFi, yet simply suspending again and waking up was enough to restore the functionality. Truly odd.

Have you had any further troubles with Ubuntu on your elitebook?
I am about to get one myself and I too only use Linux.
I'd take your problem to the Ubuntu forums as they seem to be very helpful with this stuff. -
Sorry for not replying - I never got an email about it.

I'm still using this laptop with Ubuntu and it works very well, however I do still have the issue above, from time to time. A quick suspend/resume resolves it when it happens.
