Hi all!
Does anyone know the part number for the bluray drive for the 8560w?

it's $100 at Newegg. It's a $250 upgrade on HP, don't know what the standalone price is.
That's what I typically do. -
help! i got an error message said "Manufacturing Program Mode set: 224 of 10" when i reboot my 8560w after a system automatically update. it now can't login to windows even can't see the login screen. does anybody can help me solve the issue?

My new 8560w arrived today, hopefully I will get enough time to boot it tonight
-
The Dreamcolor display is weird for the first time seeing something so absolutely amazing
But I quickly adapted, and now I am considering fresh start on this thing, but maybe I will give it a few weeks time, as it will by mainly used by my gf.
For info on display :
Manufacturer : LGD
PnP ID : LGD0220
week of manufacture : Week 00, 2009
FW: 111
version: 2.10 -

Is it a 10-bit display, as I am given to believe, or an 8-bit as some have claimed??
OOTM -
Just got mine tonight.
First impressions:
- a lot heavier and thicker than my old 8530w. That's a minus.
- the arrow keys have been massacred. Up/down are half of left/right which are 75% of a normal key themselves. Not sure why HP chose to pack them so tightly. A smaller Shift and Numpad 0 would have done the trick.
- the track pad is much better than on my old 8530w. It's about twice as big, but dual finger scrolling doesn't work reliably for me. Switched to one finger scrolling and it's ok.
- the point stick is as bad as the old generation. Not nearly as precise as the one on Thinkpads. Will try to switch the orange button with the one from my Thinkpad to see if that makes a difference.
- on the good side, the laptop is fast
- they have real buttons now, not the defective capacitive ones they had in the older series.
- the laptop still does not resume from sleep when I open the lid. Do you know any tricks on how to do that. I didn't like that behavior on my 8530w either. On the positive side, when it resumes from sleep keyboard input is readily available.
- due to the new way to remove the bottom of the laptop you have easy access to the memory upgrade slots and hdd. You have to have some nails and some muscles though. The slider is very hard to move on my laptop.
- I see some troubling white light in the middle of the screen when I open or close the laptop
- the display (non Dreamcolor) looks better than the one on Thinkpads. I have the 1920x1080 version on the Elitebook and the 1900x1200 version on the W510. I do not like the widening of the monitors, but vendors are not giving us any choices...
- 5 USB ports(3 on left, 2 on right) are welcome
- the screen doesn't close cleanly like on Thinkpads. When you close the screen a small gap of 1-1.5 millimeters remains. You can feel that when you have the laptop in your hand. That gap will close and open depending on where you keep your hand on the laptop.
- the button that opens the lid feels of bad quality.
I expected more, but this will do fine. For the first hours I love my 8530w more. If only it would work so fast as the 8560w...
Forgot to add the specs:
- i7-2820QM
- 16 GB of 1333MHz DDR3 (4x4)
- m5950 GPU
- a hitachi 320GB HDD
- normal (non-backlit) keyboard -
Also just received mine late this afternoon...impressions are similar to higgsboson's.
Difference is that I'm coming from a clunky Gateway (Acer) P7811fx, so this is a major upgrade for me in every way (although I use T-series Thinkpads at work and a quad core/8GB workstation at home).
I have the XU083UT configuration and added 8GB RAM and a 128GB Crucial m4 SSD.
After a clean load of Win7 64 Pro and all drivers, I did some basic performance testing of the drive. I can confirm the SATA port is at SATA III speed (6Gbps), both with the Intel RST panel and with the test showing a peak read of 463 MB/s... average hovers at 441 MB/s (SATA II theoretical peak is 375 MB/s).
Haven't done much else with the machine, but it is FAST. I've eliminated the page file, and everything snaps very quickly. I also noticed it chews the battery quickly, and I don't have too much noise coming from the fan. Installing the hp power assistant seems to help. The fan is almost completely silent while the machine is idling in this browser session.
I still need to calibrate the display and load my suite of photo editing apps. Really looking forward to working with it!

For anyone with: PFN_LIST_CORRUPT bsod's
update your bios to F3.0
I had problems after putting in corsair ram, but after a bios flash all is working properly -
But it comes with applications to switch profiles - sRGB, Adobe etc.
I don't have any probe, but if there is some software tool you could provide to see the bits of the display? -

Wish I knew. If you dig into the owner's manual or the parts manual, they should at least offer a clue. I'm surprised it's not common knowledge. Seems like I saw a lot of detailed info on different panels -- part numbers, manufacturers, etc. -- so why can't we find the simple fact of whether it is 10-bit or 8-bit??

Outstanding detective work, Palda. +1
Now, how about a few pics!! If you can do a comparison, even better.

I don't know if this option exists on laptops that don't have the IPS screen, but in the ATI control panel, it does list an option for 10 bit support on mine.
You lose Aero though when you run that.
So, in other news...HP may be selling the PC division, a la IBM circa 2005-ish. I wonder if that will persuade anyone still sitting in limbo or on the fence over to Lenovo or, more likely if IPS is a concern...Dell.
Now, I'll be the first one to say that their consumer line is ...but I've been impressed with the EliteBook line since I got the 8710W (I consider it an honorary Elitebook, as it's a hell of a lot better than the 6510's I've had to deal with of the same generation). In fact, I'd say that each generation has been an overall improvement on the one before. It'll be interesting to see what, if anything, changes in the future. -
Hi ,
I am going to buy HP 8560w. But... I can't see the HDMI port? Where is it?! Or there is no of the HDMI port? -
-
won't be before monday, out of town for the weekendbut I will try to photo it with what I got in my possesion.

I'll be looking! -
hi firepro m5950 users, you noticed the gpu fail to go to idle clock speed with powerplay enabled? stuck at 250/900 instead of 151/100??
Dell version of m5950 has this problem, drains the battery faster than it should!
http://forum.notebookreview.com/del...5950-gpu-does-not-idle-poor-battery-life.html -
Haven't noticed that. I'm keeping an eye on the frequencies using the MSI Afterburner and the reported frequencies were 100/150.
I only have the laptop for a few days though. I will be keeping an eye on them for a longer time and I'll come back with additional info. -
What have people been getting with battery life on their 8560w? For plain notetaking, (Wifi off, display dimmed, backlight off, aero off), reaching 4 hours is a stretch for me.
The Dell Precision I played around with could hit 6 hours plus, so I'm a little disappointed with battery life. Granted, the Dell had an i5 processor, vs the i7 I have, but a loss of 2+ hours just over the processor seems like too much.

hello guys,
anybody have any experience with this caddy ? ( 2nd HDD/SSD caddy for HP 8560p [HP-2BAY-8560] - $44.75 : NewmodeUS, Hard Drive Caddys for Notebooks)
I want to buy a second hdd bay, but i'm not sure to choose this, or the hp one, that somebody mentioned a few page earlier. -

It doesn't fit. Bezel's made for the 8560P, not the 8560W. I found out the hard way, but the guys at newmodeus gave me a pre-paid return label and refunded everything, including shipping. I look forward to them getting the proper faceplate, as they're a good group of guys. -

my custombuilt 8560w arrived 10mins ago - now isn´t this a beauty!
will unpack and install this evening and run some benchmarks with the SSD
EDIT: no backlit german keyboard.
and "weird rings" on the dark display - have to check, what that might be -
Hi .. for people that have backlit keyboard .. does it flex ? .. can you post a youtube video .. like this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HAXlSJLwFkk
-
me and Protect Tools are no great buddies.
I have two users for BIOS setup, both named 8560w-hb\hb
(because I first used the preinstalled Win7 for an evening, then today a clean Win7 installation).
With both users I only have very limited options in the BIOS, almost 90% is greyed out.
What do I have to do to get access to the options?
sightly frustrated...
EDIT: ok, when I login the BIOS as a "guest" - I can change everything including the security level. Somehow I don´t understand this whole thingBut atleast I could activate VT now

I have gotten an offer from HP on a 8560w, but I dont know what kind of a screen is this one:
XX066AV 1 15.6 FHD RGB UWVA DRMf/CAM Display
What is the resolution? -
FHD should mean 1920x1080.
-
DreamColor, UltraWideViewingAngle, Webcam
same display that I have in my new baby - and loving it.
Ordered additional 12GB to max it up to 16GB and a dockingstation today, so maybe on Friday I´ll finally switch over from my 8530p -
This is the offer they gave me:

Question to german/austrian owners of 8560w with custom config:
What are your experiences with shipping time? 3-4 weeks? I ordered my 8560w two days ago. -
It appears, I just can't photograph the Dreamcolor 2 display on anything, and compare it, to look somehow all saying.
Best showcase is another thread, where one member has photos of DC, non/DC and another laptop. -
Hey guys! I'm been torn between the m4600 and the 8560w for quite some time....I've been leaning towards the hp but over in the dell thread the guys are saying that the cooling system in the 8560w is severely undersized? while the m4600 is obestly oversized? can you guys comment on this...and any other comments would be appreciated...I'm pretty sure the m4600 has crossed over your minds atleast once or two while considering the 8560w....Thanks so much... oh yea and another thing....is the dual core cpu's int he elitebok different heatsink then quad cores? and will it make it big difference?
-
Can't easily order m4600 in my country, so never crossed my mind.
Didn't consider dualcore
But no overheating problems with quadro 2000 -
@m_garfield
It took 3 weeks for HP to deliver mine.
I also got B2 stepping, is it really that bad?
Also did anyone managed to use 3 monitors with docking station (2 external monitors and integraded display)?
and can you post your wprime 32 scores. I have i7 2820QM and get 12sec. I have seen that this cpu on notebookcheck can do it in 10 sec. -
My i7-2820QM is also behind the scores at notebookcheck for wPrime, both 32 and 1024, but it scores better for Cinebench 11.5.
The scores are about 12s(vs 10.7 on notebookcheck) for wPrime 32, 400ish(vs 366 on notebookcheck) for wPrime 1024 and 5.9 on Cinebench (vs 5.2 on notebookcheck) -
What I have noticed that i7-2820 never goes to promised 3,4GHz. Super PI (single thread) topped at 3,2 GHz. I think this is the reason why our results are lower than notebookcheck.
Is it possible to get somehow the promissed 3,4GHz? (via some BIOS settings, or so) -
I'm considering the 8560w, but am I just not seeing it or is CTO the only way to get four SODIMM slots? All the ready ship models I've seen don't seem to indicate they have four slots. My VM's NEED that extra RAM. The 8GB i've got in my 8540w (Q820) just isn't enough.
-
My 8560w has 4 RAM slots, two under keyboard and two at the bottom. I have bought with 8GB RAM and two slots at the bottom are free, though I don't know if this is standard
-
As far as I know all quad core processors come with a 4 memory slot mainboard, while the dual core processors come with a 2 memory slot mainboard.
2720QM abd 2820QM also support DDR3-1600MHz.
My 2820QM came with 1333 MHz memory (due to me not being carefully on what I've ordered) but it supports 1600MHz memory. -
hey guys....could one of you be kind enough to tell me if there's an option to turn off the nvidia graphics in the bios? I would like to know if you can use your intergrated Intel HD 3000 instead of the Nvidia if I wish? Thanks a million....
-
optimus isn't supported on 8*60w. I hope someone in the future will invent how to switch to Intel HD VGA on 8*60w units
-
Yes...I understand that optimus is not supported but what I was wondering if if you could disable the amd/nvidia card all together in the bios and just use the intel hd 3000...I'm not refering to optimus which would mean both graphics simultaneous working together... Just want to turn amd/nvidia card off sometimes and just use the intergrated intel video card.....Thanks for replying...
-
-
Yea that would seem like the logical thing to do but since I haven't bought the laptop yet I can't check on that...thats why I was hoping one of you guys could take a peek for me... Thanks..
-
Nope, there is no wiring for HD3000, so never.
-
Hi all,
I was wondering about the battery life for this particular setup (some of you have this, indicated by your signatures):
HP 8560w - i7-2630QM, 8GB, Quadro 2000M, 750GB, BD-ROM, 1920x1080 DreamColor, Windows 7 pro
I've somewhere on these forums that for a 8560w with AMD Firepro battery usage is not that good (was it 2,5 hours of light use, web surfing and such?), and I was wondering if things were better with the Quadro 2000M. I have two usage scenarios in mind: heavy-duty photo processing (display on full gamut, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Lightroom etc), and light web surfing / word processing (with reasonable power save settings).
I greatly appreciate any help.
