You can see that in the service manual, check the CPU changing part and you will see the necessary procedures to remove the heatsink.
But I don't see any reason for changing the paste.

I7-3840 2.8 GHZ -- priced same as I7-3820. -
Any news for problem boot from mSATA SSD disk ????
-
Well, I installed XP 64 on this SSD and it starts just fine. There's one primary partition on the SSD. The entry in the boot.ini has to be
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(1)partition(1)
The boot.ini and ntldr are on the main hard drive in the boot partition.
XP64 seems to work fine, I used the Quicklaunch driver from the 8560w. The only thing not working is the USB 3 ports. I can't get the Windows7 driver to install and can't find any drivers for XP64. Any ideas? Will intel make a driver for XP64 or never?
Oh, and HP seems to have done something to the Nvidia graphics. You can't install current drivers from Nvidia any more (at least here with K2000M). Only HP's drivers work! -
Was your SSD a 2.5" or an mSATA drive?
I was able to install an updated video card driver through windows update. Although, my screen went completely black during the process, forcing me to do a hard reboot. -
Just the mSata that came with the laptop as a cache device, about 22GB. Was quite an adventure getting the RAID destroyed and Win7 to boot again from the internal HD. But once bios and raid-bios were correctly set up and all RAID settings were gone it now works fine.

Does Anyone one have the 8570w with Dreamcolor display? I got mine CTO model few weeks ago. There is still color cast problem as 8560w.
I reported this issue to hp and got a onsite warranty for panel replacement. However, hp sent me the 8560w panel assembly instead of 8570w...
The technician disassembled my laptop for panel replacement but had some problem put all the parts back meanwhile broke some cable during his disassembly...Now I'm waiting the depot service to get the laptop back for a full inspection. The waiting time nearly drives me crazy. -
Hi all,
I just got my custom model of 8570w: i7-3820QM / 16GB RAM (4 DIMMs) / 256GB SSD + 500 GB HDD (instead of the optical drive). I opted out of the DreamColor display and went with the cheaper one.
For a development machine, this is a dream come true! I can run several virtual machines in parallel with this, and it just flies!
Here's the WMI, the lower score is due to the low-end graphics card (which I can live with):
I was wondering if anyone knew when Windows 8 support is due? I am particularly interested in the ProtectTools for Windows 8, I want my fingerprint reader working!
(all the drivers are installed, but I didn't want to install the Windows 7 ProtectTools software on Windows 8) -
Initial release is set for 26th of October so until then you probably won't see it as a supported OS (they need to test all the drivers and software before it's officially supported). -
Hi all
like Molvol I have installed Win 7 on the mSATA SSD (a Transcend 128GB). In order not to lose my existing installation, I proceeded as follows:
- Pull a backup of all partitions (incl HP_TOOLS) with Acronis True Image
- disable acceleration in the Intel RST Software, set the SSD to available
- remove the existing SSD, install the Transcend SSD
- in the BIOS set SATA to AHCI instead of RAID
- do a clean install of Win 7 on the SSD (the setup creates a system partition for booting on the HD and the actual Win7 partition on the SSD. Win 7 seems to be aware that the 8670w cannot boot directly from SSD and installs this workaround.
- restore all partitions EXCEPT the small system partition on the harddisk (overwriting the Win7 system partition)
- voila, the 8570w boots from harddisk and loads the original Win7 configuration from the SSD
This seems to work fine so far. I have discovered a few strange things though:
- The Transcend SSD is rated at 500MB/s read/write, but according to ATTO benchmark, the SSD only achieves around 200MB/s
- Intel RST software reports 3GB/s SATA for both disks, although in BIOS I have set both to 6GB/s SATA
- SSD Tweaker reports that there is no AHCI when trying to do TRIM optimization
- Windows is unable to run the Experience Index Test. It fails when trying to benchmark the disk performance.
Result of the exercise:
Positive: machine is much faster than before.
Cons: Seems to me that HP did not foresee the 8570w to be used in this way. Obviously quite a bit more performance could be achieved, if HP adjusted the bios to treat the SSD as a regular disk. -
Hi Rudolph, could you post the exact model of the 128GB Transcend module that you installed in the MSATA/PCI socket of your 8570W? Thanks.

Hi, I recently bought an hp Elitebook 8570w equpped with intel 24GB SSD cache. Due to some hardware issues, my laptop was sent back to hp repair center except HDD (I kept it). Now my laptop returns but when I plug-in my HDD back, it doesn't boot (BSOD). Now I try to manually install system (Win 7 Pro 64bit)and all the drivers. To enable SRT technology, base on the information in intel, I should switch the SATA mode to RAID in UEFI then install the system in my HDD. However, system is unable to installed in HDD (windows can not be installed in this disk) If I choosed RAID in UEFI. I also tried to first install system in AHCI mode then switch to RAID after the system in installed. But when I switched to RAID, it appears that "there is no boot device". Can anyone tell me if I miss any setting or the proper step to enable intel srt and install system? Thank you!

Hi Aloysiusq
The Transcend is a TS128GMSA720. -
I have an 8470w. I have not installed an mSATA SSD as yet. I don't need an optical drive, so I have installed SATA III SSDs in both the main bay and the optical bay. I can report that both of these are running at full SATA III speed. Ivy bridge only supports two SATA III drives. All other SATA connections will be SATA II, so I know that, at least in the 8470w, the mSATA slot will be SATA II. I would expect that the 8570w is built the same so you will not get full SATA III performance out of your drive. -
Thanks, that clarifies the cause of the issue. I need the optical bay and the large HD, so I'll live with the mSATA being SATA 2

My age-old and first question:
Does anyone have any screen shots of the latest (8570w) with the IPS "DreamColor" screen????
I'm going to need a new laptop soon and I'd like to be sure that the DreamColor on the 8570w is what I've heard it to be: good, very good.
Thanks in advance .... -
I never set the BOIS-ADMIN password. And
When i boot the laptop then following screen is displayed.
User ID: ....
Domain: ....
[password]
[Fingerprint]
Select Token or swipe your finger
...
And I can't pass this screen with passwd because I never had set the my-admin passWD!
But I can pass this screen using finger print because I registered my finger prints before.
When I swipe my finger, just booting of win7 begins.
I can't go to CMOS-SETUP!!!!
How can I goto the CMOS-SETUP for my laptop 8570w? -

Has _anybody_ seen _any_ screen shots of the newest IPS display panel available on the 8570w??? Even if you cannot show a screen shot, can you say how it compares with the DreamColor on the 8560w???
Please!

I have one HUGE problem with the 8570w:
It creates the same high-pitched irregular buzzing noise in the speakers, more so on the left side, as did my 8740w. The problem is that the old solution doesn't do anything. It doesn'T even matter if IDT drivers are installed or not. But the noise is not there booting something other than Win7. I can't believe they still haven't got their together at HP. This issues has been around for years!Attached Files:

It sounds like this "buzzing" is coming from some bad drivers or something like that. Is that what you are saying? Because for this problem to disappear when using a different OS than Win7 would indicate it is a software issue rather than a hardware issue. I wonder if anyone else has had this problem? Anybody??
Does this "buzzing" occur when using headphones?? How about external speakers?? Or is it only when using the integrated laptop speakers??

Just to understand you: are you saying the buzzing still comes out of external speakers (if plugged in), as well as the built-in speakers (when nothing is plugged in)?? Does it buzz when you use headphones??? If this is a major fubar I might just forget HP and go with an M6700 in IPS, the only choice left.

The noise comes from the internal speakers no matter what you do. Even if you plug in external speakers that noise still comes out of the internal speakers. It does NOT come out of external speakers/headphones!
The noise prevails even if you mute sounds and it does not change in volume no matter what volume you set. It's a bad fault in how the speakers are addressed by the driver and could easily be fixed. If I get some time I'll call HP and try to elevate the issue, maybe it gets some attention then. I wish someone from HP would read here and probably immediately understand what it is about rather than suggesting a part replacement or re-installation... -
Out of the Maelstrom Notebook Evangelist
I went to the youtube bit that demonstrated the buzzing sound you are talking about, and it is certainly irritating. Seems very odd that HP has not addressed this kind of a serious issue in all this time. This is a higher-end computer we're talking about, and to have such a design flaw seems very counter-productive. Already I have now switched my research from the HP EliteBook to Dell's Precision line. Even if I am forced to move to a 17 inch over the 15 inch I am actually looking for, I would rather have something that _works_ as opposed to something that doesn't.
Haven't any other owners complained about this problem?? I hadn't seen anyone else mention this except for you.
-
I have listened to the youtube sample. This sounds like RFI noise leaked by the CPU or by a peripheral chip. The fact that the noise is insensitive to volume control, and that it always originates from the built-in speakers even when a headset or external speakers are plugged in, suggests that the leak may occur during transmission after the audio signal has emerged from the audio amplifier. More than likely, the internal speaker wires are not well shielded, and their positioning and length causes them to act as RF antennas. Taping/protecting the speaker wires and contacts with shielding material may lessen the problem.
It is also possible that the RFI may have an external source. Try running the 8570 on battery power... Is the squeal still heard? If the machine is quieter on battery than on AC, try adding a ferrite toroid around the incoming low voltage DC power cord. -
Out of the Maelstrom Notebook Evangelist
Sounds reasonable. Anybody tested this??
-
The noise does not change if running on battery.
And guys, please check out the links I have provided. For the 84x0 series there was a simple workaround to that by changing something in the sound options!!! This was noticed by many people and purely a software issue.
Googling the problem I found a lot of people having similar symptoms across various brands that are caused by processor C-states. I can actually get rid of the noise by having the system idle with absoutely nothing running (not even common Win services like indexing) or by running the processor up to 100% with OCCT.
So, Aloysiusq, you may have pointed towards the origin of the noise. The solution in the 84x0 series was to set to listen to the internal mic. It was purely a software thing. -
Out of the Maelstrom Notebook Evangelist
Thanks, Molvol. Appreciate your time and posting.
-
I also hear (but it's not that serious) a high pitched noise from my 8560w which is from the VRM section for the CPU. -
Hello, I just got my 8570w today, and so far, so good, except that I am trying to access the memory slots under the keyboard to replace the OEM 4GB DIMMs with 8GB DIMMS, and I can't for the life of me get the keyboard off.
Does anyone have any tricks for getting the keyboard off? I have loosened the 3 screws, per the manual, removed the battery and expansion bay device. I have pushed on the back side of the keyboard as hard as I am comfortable with for fear of damaging it, including pushing on the spot indicated in the service manual with a tool.
I have followed the service manual to the letter, and it just seems that I am having to push way too hard to get the keyboard out.
Any thoughts?
Thanks! -
The solution is to push and to keep pushing like mad as far as I remember, worked for me http://forum.notebookreview.com/hp-business-class-notebooks/608629-8560w-stiff-keyboard.html -
More problems with Windows 7. I use a dual monitor configuration and I now have quite consistently the problem, that when I wake it up from sleep both monitors are black with just the mouse cursor visible on the secondary external monitor. If I enter my login password blindly I see the desktop appear normally on the secondary monitor, but the primary laptop display remains black.
It seems totally shut off (I can't see anything even lighting it with a strong flashlight - so it's not just the backlight).
Once I tried closing the lid (which is set to do nothing) but that resulted in my external monitor becoming the only one and the laptop display disappeared from the Nvidia system overview completely - a reboot brought it back.
What has helped so far is sending it right back to standby and waking it up again (unreliable) or sending it into hibernate and waking it up again (has worked every time 3 times so far).
I do remember that I read about a black display after sleep fix at some time but can't find it now. Also there are hundreds of similar cases with Win7 on the net, it's just overwhelming (a much worse problem with sleep got me my 8740w exchanged).
It's a dreamcolor display. Does anyone have any experience with this issue? -
So, if anyone else has this trouble, I can offer some insight on the assembly. The bottom edge of the keyboard has tabs on it that would prevent prying from the bottom. The top edge (along the screen) is what is able to be popped free, and there are multiple spots where it is held in place, but once you get the corner that is shown in the manual, it all pops free pretty easily. You do really need to push pretty hard to get that corner of the keyboard to pop.
Thanks again! -

Got my new custom 8570w 2 weeks ago and i have to say i AM DISAPPOINTED, ill tell you why.
Its 2.6quad core spu, ati firepro m4000,4gb ram, gobi qualcomm broadband, blueray, dreamcolor, backlit with pointer kkeyboard
Anyway what is wrong with it you ask? ill tell you
1)The keyboard "Enter" key squeaks on pressed all the time
2) Cpu fan seems to be hitting something in the surrounding heatsink or so, tried to finger it it seems to be slightly better, nevertheless needs to fixed or fan will malfunction soon
3) the screen keeps flickering just on the area from the windows start till the clock (the whole width of the screen of the taskbar). tried auto hiding taskar didnt work. the only thing that seems to work periodically is installing the graphic drivers everytime it appears, and let me say it keeps appearing every like 2 days even when reinstalling driver.
4) Removing the keyboard is difficult even with manual instructions which are not adequate. so on every place where the latch release (the five tabs) now have dented a little from the small screw i put to try release them, i successfully did after a few attempts but they should have included elaborate instructions on how not to damage the metal chassis or keyboard of the laptop using appropriate suggested tools.
5) the windows seems some what slow with HP's software installed. takes wayyy to long to log in and just the harddisk keeps spinning on the logon screen so when i swipe my finger it takes about 10 seconds just hanging there (not knowing if it even accepted it to you try another few time) and nothing happening suddenly it logs in. My 4 year old Acer laptop (my laptop before this) core duo was much faster at logon and much faster when sleeping on hibernating !!!
and this elitebook 8570w is supposed to be the top!
I had my laptop restored to factory windows and still same problems mentioned above, just in case anyone wanted to know.
With the money i paid for the quality i get..im not satisfied a bit ! and i say this because im overseas now and will not return to US till some time and i have no idea how they send such monster laptops without the appropriate testing from a huge company such as HP !!! i thought i went for the best but the disappointment is greater and i dont know when and where ill have it fixed.
8570w gaming does play games pretty well but the fan hitting the heatsink is not so appealing not even when watching movies. the wireless capabilities are good. sound srs are good better than other laptops.
hope this helps other people to decide about this laptop as i was desperate before i bought it to find such advice online ! ill take pictures soon or video if anyone wants them -
Now is on WWW. new bios from 10 - 2012, but there is still no option BOOT FROM MSATA SSD ?
Have maybe who some information or contact with HP, about that problem ? -

Re: Boot from mSATA SSD.
Hi Guys,
the following has worked for me:
- Disable all the caching / Intel RST stuff with the RST software and mark the SSD as free
- Start the Win7 or Win8 installation DVD
- Chose advanced installation
- When you are at the screen that lets you select the installation location, you should see the HD and the mSATA SSD
- Delete ALL the partitions on both drives
- Chose the mSATA SSD as the installation location
- The setup programm will now create a 100mb (350mb) system partition on the HD and a c: partition on the mSATA SSD
- complete the setup
The 8670w reads the boot sector from the HD. The boot sector then points the boot process to the mSATA SSD. The mSATA slot is only 3Gb/s, but I have found it plenty fast for my use. Beats booting from the HD hands down.
Let me know if this works for you. It did for me, for Win7 as well as for Win8.

I don't know if it has been posted before, but HP provides on its site a service (repair) manual. Did you check it?
Here is mirror if the above link goes down for any reason. -
Will a 8570w with K1000M graphics and a HP 2012 230W Advanced Docking Station be able to drive dual 2560x1440 displays? The dock has dual DP 1.2 outputs.
In this config, I'll not be using the built-in panel.
The K1000M gfx supports 3840 x 2160, which adds up to slightly more than 5120x1440. But I assume there may be more to this than just pixel count.
Anyone? -
Ok - I got my hands on this one so I thought I'll share some experience with it.
I've available following model:
HP 8570w - LY554EA
CPU: Intel® Core™ i7-3610QM (2,30 GHz, 6 MB cache)
RAM: 8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3 SDRAM (2x4GB), 2 more slots for RAM available - 32GB is max
STORAGE: 750GB @ 7200 rpm + 24GB mini SSD (for caching); I checked that it is actually configured in RAID 0 with the big HDD
VGA: NVIDIA Quadro K2000M (2 GB VRAM)
LCD: 15,6" DreamColor (IPS)
OS: Win 7 x64 Pro
General feeling - very fast laptop with decent design and awesome display. Pre-loaded with lots of crapware (uninstalled without hassle) and there is tiny problem with left button of touchpad (does weird sound when pressed at specific angle).
Some performance tests:
I always did one pre-test without writing down values, and then two runs. Posted results are average of two runs - spread was never more than 5% between runs.
8570w = laptop with specs above
workstation = my desktop workstation: AMD x6 3,3 GHz, 16GB RAM, 2x AMD 6850 1GB (crossfire), OS Win7 x64 Pro installed at HDDs in RAID1, tests loaded from RAID 10 HDDs.

There is 300 FPS limit...
Far Cry 2 - in built benchmark - ranch medium - 1920x1080, settings: all set to very high, DX10
8570w: 56,61 FPS
workstation: 102,93 FPS
In DX9 mode I was getting lower FPS
LuxMark 2.0 scene sala (488k triangles) - OpenCL benchmark
8570w: 105 points (ouch)
workstation: 979 points
LuxMark 2.0 scene Luxball HDR - OpenCL benchmark
8570w: 693 points (ouch)
workstation: 9573 points
Conclusion:
HP 8570w is a very, very powerful notebook - notebook wise. But it is not full desktop replacement - especially in computing tasks it can't beat a desktop workstation, though it is very competitive in gaming and I was quite impressed. And once again - the IPS display is really awesome
Other toughts: Be careful about the docking station - DVI connectors are shared with DP so if you want to use 3 displays (my original intention) one of the display has to be attached through VGA, which is not nice. Because of this I'm postponing the buy of the docking station -
Thank you for the findings Honza... Your results are in fact not bad at all, considering that 8570W is handicapped with half the RAM of your workstation, and a CPU that is running approximately 1/3 slower. As a result, I would guestimate 8570W would yield 50% to 60% throughput of your workstation. If you ever decide to upgrade the CPU and RAM of 8570W, let us know your new results... I suspect that they will be a little closer to your workstation.
Aloysius -
Thinking about ordering a 8570w. Anyone that owns one with the ISP panel - what are your thoughts? Plus? Minus? Problems? Calibrates well? Thanks for ;your mini review Honza. I have a Lenovo w520 and don't care much for the TN panel.
Any thoughts would be appreciated.
David -
I might be able to get my hands on the laptop again - is there any specific test that I should run? The configuration has IPS display and like I said - it is awesome. It's definately better than my desktop monitor HP Compaq LA2306x. I'm old times guy and for quite a long time I had a 21" HP CRT monitor so when it comes to colours I know what is nice color
I also still have HP 8510p which has a regular "TN" display and in comparison with the DreamColor IPS display it's really, really poor.
-
I'm also looking to buy a 8570W and not sure if I should get the dreamcolor display. If I am not doing any form of video/graphics editing is it still worth getting it? Has anyone seen a dreamcolor vs non-dreamcolor display side by side and have any comments?
Thanks -
the difference of price we pay for the quadro series is just for more stable, better drivers which optimize performance in pro software. Well then it should work
the other way round too and I wish I could know if we could use drivers or hacks that would boost game performance on these cards. Mine is a K3000M and already
not bad with games. But not top for that purpose either! -
Honza - no particular test. I thought there might be some graphic artists on this thread that could tell me what they thought about the dreamcolor panel. There were some complaints on the previous model (8560p) concerning the ISP panel is the only reason I was asking.
David -
It seems they haven't changed anything on the dreamcolor display to the previous version (8560w), correct? Same complaints?
Here is a comparisson of the 8560w Dreamcolor vs Non-Dreamcolor:
