Hi,
I have a potential issue with my new 8570w and thought I would check on here if it is normal before I ask for a refund or a new unit.
The power socket on my brand new laptop is very loose and the power cable comes out very easily. I logged a support case and they replaced the power socket which made it slightly tighter but still very loose compared to my 6555b.
Is anyone else's 8570w like this?
Thanks.

1) I have the same problem with the loose power socket. It's not normal, my 8440p has the same power socket size but the cable fits well.
Anybody an idea how to solve the problem? I will buy an additional battery soon (QK640AA 634087-001). This battery has an built-in Integrated AC Power Port. Does anybody know if this Port is better and usable for powering the whole Notebook instead the original one?
2) My battery was pretty loose and shaking. I fixed it with glue stripes between housing and battery (not visible) - it solved the problem
3) My dreamcolor display is grainy as well but I can live with that (is it normal?). The colours are in general very dark (contrast at Photos in dark areas is poor). I did the internal calibration. It's better now but I'm still not 100% statisfight. Any other solution? Another calibration tool I could take? -
-
4) One other thing: The blower turns on after around ten minutes even under low load conditions (surfing in the internet). I haven't found settings to prevent that. Has anybody on Idee? What temperatur can you allow to the CPU without damaging it (I have a i7 3610QM)? -
sorry if this has been asked before, but does anyone know an easy way to buy an 8570w customized in canada?
-
have you tried your HP Store?
I don't have the time to search if it is possible in your country but here is a link to start
Search Results - HP Shopping.CA -
thanks for the link. that site only has preconfigured setups for sale. im looking to customize it first. doesn't look like i can find any who do it here...
-
too bad, I just took my country code of that link and replaced it with Canada, and here are customized models possible (still expensive, of course)
So it is not available in Canada, it seems, not from HP -
Hi all!
Does the 8570w M4000 have Enduro / switching graphics? -
-
Thanks. Phew! Knowing the problems with the ATI's GCN chips and Enduro, it's a relief...

Hi there again;
I'm about to get a 8570w, I don't have much information on it, and the guy selling it gave me a product number:
c4n59up#aba
I cannot find any relevant info on it, all I found is
E8570wZ7372QPN500MIC08YfS US
Does anyone have a reliable source on HP specs?
Thanks... -

Has anyone done any gaming on the M4000?

Is it possible to install an AMD M5950 on 8570W?
I have a spare M5950 and my applications use AMD driver. It is possible for me to get a 8570W with K1000M, and replace with M5950 by myself?
All the disassemble won't be an issue to me, just need to know the compatibility from the BIOS/system point of view. -
Info request: If anyone has an 8570w that came with or was configured with a bluray writer, I would appreciate it if you could run msinfo32 or hwinfo and let us know what the drive is.
Thanks! -
Hi all!
First of all: sorry for my bad English. =/
I have bought the 8570w with 750 GB hard disk and 24 GB flash cache/ssd.
I have installed Windows 8 on the 750 GB hard disk and now I don't know how to go on... How can i configure the 24 GB as cache to speed up my system? Currently it is shown as a normal partition.
All driveres are currently installed and there are no errors.
I also have a problem with the configuration of my finger scan. For the configuration I have downloaed the HP ProtectTool (version 8.x) from the HP homepage. In the admin console I can setup the sensibility of the scanner, but I don't know where I can link my finger prints to my user account? I just want to scan my finger to logon when Windows is starting up.
Would be great if somebody could help me.
Thank you all!
Goodbye,
Stefan -
I think you are not allowed to logon as Administrator with fingerprints, so you have to make a new account (can be with admin rights though) to use fingerprints to logon.
I have no experience with the 24 GB cache partition but a good start would be to check out the BIOS settings for that. -
The 24 GB cache partition can be configured like this:
http://download.intel.com/support/chipsets/sb/intel_smart_response_technology_user_guide_v11.pdf
It's the Intel manual for setup Intel SRT.
I take another look on the fingerprints setup - thanks. -
you can also checkout if there is a driver/software from the fingerprint producer itself and don't use the HP software at all (AuthenTec TrueSuite e.g.). I do this with an older laptop and W7, it was the only way since the HP software did not work with W7 in my case.
-
Hello!
I have downloaded the SoftPaq Download Manager ( ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/caps-softpaq/HP_SDM_Setup.exe) by HP. There was an update for the fingerprint scanner driver. After the installation I was able to configure my fingerprint in the HP ProtectTool.
Thanks alot! -

hi all,
in the very near future I will get my very own EliteBook 8570w, however, I'm struggling with the choice of graphics cards that are offered:
1. Nvidia Quadro k2000m
2. AMD FirePro m4000
does anyone of you have a clue as to which one of those might be preferable? any advice is greatly appreciated! -
as far as i known, the Nvidia QK2000m supports with its "CUDA technologie" faster gpu rendering in Adobe progz e.g. Premiere.
Just found out in some German forums. i 'm not sure if AMD gotup to this advantage yet. The AMD is usable with AMD's catalyst some people like very much. My 8570w comes alonog with QK2000m, adviced by IT Support of my university. -
Hey folks,
I'm seriously thinking about pulling the trigger and ordering a 8570w next week. I'm currently using a Lenovo w520 and it's okay, but I want the ISP dreamcolor screen. Mainly for photoshop, digital photography, etc.
I've asked before, but it's been awhile. For those of you that own the 8570w with the ISP screen, what are your impressions? Is it going to be comparable to desktop high quality ISPs like my NEC 2090UXI? I would really like some opinions before I spend the 2 grand. Pros? Cons? Quality? Issues? Any discussion at all would really be helpful since a person can't just run down to Best Buy or the like to try it out. I will be ordering from someone that allows returns since I can't see it in person but opinions help.
Thanks in advance,
David -

hi all,
so I finally got my 8570w, and I really like it. however, there's one point I'd like to configure in a certain way, and so far, no one has been able to help me:
so it is my understanding that the 8570w (my processor is i7-3740QM) has an on-board Intel HD Graphics 4000, but I'm just not able to figure out how to access it. when I try to install the driver from intel.com it tells me that my system doesn't meet the minimum requirements ,whereas I know for certain that it does. someone told me that I'm able to activate/deactivate it in BIOS, however, I haven't found that option so far (and I've looked through EVERYTHING)
secondly (I have dual boot win7/ubuntu 12.04) I'd like ubuntu to just use the hd graphics as I'm not gonna do any graphics-intensive stuff there and besides, I don't really like the AMD driver. did ANYONE here manage to do that?anyone helping me out with that would earn my eternal gratefulness.
-
I've learned that at least on my 8560w it's disabled for good (wouldn't work with DreamColor display) and probably same goes for 8570w too. Just guessing but why wouldn't they enable it if it worked on all configurations.
-
Correct, the Intel graphics don't support 10-bit panels (DC screen), so I guess HP didn't want to bother making 2 different motherboards. -
-
3rd Generation Intel® Core
3rd Generation Intel® Core
Not that many to choose from these days. Basically it's cheaper to manufacture all CPU's with the GPU part than design and manufacture two different CPU types when only a few laptops would even use the other one.
Edit: blah. I think I chose desktop CPU's there but the point still stands... -
Hi there,
I'm considering getting the 8570w. But I'm little worried about the "irregular pitch/buzzing noise coming from speakers - more so on the left side". So far I saw only one user reporting it for 8570w (it seems it was more common with 8560w) and I know how irritating it can be (I experienced it few years ago with my Dell notebook and had to replace it with the new one). So the question - is there anyone else also experiencing this problem? I just want to probe how prevalent it is. -
Misiektoja - When the house is quiet in the morning I will turn the speakers up and see if there is any pitch/ buzzing noise and let you know. -
-
Hi aztec506 - I think the noise is not related to the volume level, it simply comes from the location near speakers. It seems you don't have this issue.
When it comes to the "color cast coming from both bottom corners". Can you upload some photo illustrating the issue, because it is hard for me to imagine what you're talking aboutWhat type of display do you have (IPS DreamColor2 or regular FHD) ?
-
OK, so you have the same issue some people reported for 8560w, look here: http://forum.notebookreview.com/hp-business-class-notebooks/601043-hp-elitebook-8560w-dreamcolor-vs-non-dreamcolor-7.html#post8179092
It's for sure unacceptable and I would ask for replacement. I ordered my own 8570w few hours ago and I hope I won't have such nice pink clouds. I'm little afraid about the grain, some people complained about it for 8560w. Is it really visible? I just wonder if they managed to improve it since 8560w. Maybe I would be better off with regular FHD screen? -
Yep, I sure do. I knew about the 8560 problems and Dell quit using IPS screens on their 15" workstation for the same problem I believe. I waited until the 8570w came out hoping the problems had been solved. Guess not, but several of the posters made no mention of it and a few said they "loved" their dreamcolor screen. The screen is the only reason I bought the 8570w since I use it mostly for photoshop stuff. I noticed the graininess right away, the color casts were apparent as soon as I opened a white document. I can replace it and hope for a better one or just send it back for credit and continue using my Lenovo w520. the w520 is okay, but it's a tft screen which is not what I wanted. Price ruled along with the screen complaints on the 8560w.
I like just about everything else on the 8570w so I'll probably sleep on my decision for a few nights. I will say the w520 keyboard beats the HP to a pulp, but they have always had excellent keyboards and I even like the island style keyboard on my Lenovo u300s ultrabook.
Whether you would be better off with a TFT screen is a question only you can answer. Depends on what you are using it for I guess. To me the graininess is noticeable on white documents - Word, excel, etc. I have a picture of some sandstone canyons for my desktop and the graininess isn't noticeable and neither is the color cast problems. -
I have chance to buy 8570p with very good price, but with hd screen... Do I need also vds cable replacement to go then wit hd+ or even fhd screen?
I need this info- thanks. -
Does anyone know why models with Quadro K2000M are 250-300$ more expensive than with FirePro M4000, where in all benchmarks M4000 is much faster than K2000M ? Looking at the specs it seems FirePro M4000 is faster because of GDDR5, better mem bandwidth and more streams:
K2000M - max. power: 55W, mem bandwidth: 28.8GB/s, DDR3, 28nm, 2GB, graphics clock: 745 MHz, streams: 384
FirePro M4000 - max. power: 33W, mem bandwidth: 72GB/s, GDDR5, 28nm, 1GB, graphics clock: 600 MHz, streams: 512
At the same time it needs less power than K2000M. Is there anything wrong with FirePro M4000 ? Some limitations that make it cheaper ? Any ideas if 8570w will be equipped with K3000M ? It seems K2000M is not worth its price. -
Well, I received my replacement 8570w. Same dang problem. The ips display has two pink color casts about the size of a quarter in the bottom corners and a blue cast about an inch wide and 4-5 inches high coming out of the pink color cast in the bottom right corner. The slightly grainy look I could get used to, don't even notice it working on pictures. Seriously disappointed since HP is the only one making a business class workstation with an ips display. I'm not sure I'm going to give a third one a try unless it's from HP and they quarantee a display without these problems. Again $2000+ is too much to pay for something with these kind of issues. As an add on the ips is $500 +/-. That would pay for 2/3 or more of my NEC 2090uxi graphics monitor and it is perfect. What a shame. Pictures look very nice otherwise, but when you open a word document or something similar and see that crap on the left side of the screen a person can only shake their head. And the vendor shipped it from a different warehouse so it shouldn't be from the same lot or run of displays. The 8570w runs cool, looks much classier than my Lenovo w520, has a backlit keyboard and there's not much I don't like about it. BUT I bought it for the display to do graphical work. Geez. How hard can it be for LG to make a nice display? I've seen some on Windows8 machines that are excellent and they aren't even high dollar machines. No one else is having these problems? If not, perhaps I should try another. Misiektoja - did you get yours? what does yours look like?

Hi aztec506,
No, I'm still waiting for the store to complete my order as I asked them to put faster Samsung SSD 840 Pro (normally they provide standard 840 version) and it seems they have some delays getting it. Originally I ordered DreamColor2 + K2000M version, but yesterday I changed the order to regular FHD + FirePro M4000 with the reservation that they can realize original order if they can guarantee that grain is not visible and there are no pink/green/blue clouds as well. So let's see what they will answer, I'm expecting to hear from them today. -
-
OK, they were too fast and I got it in the original specification with DreamColor2 display (32G RAM, SSD Samsung 840 PRO 512G, Intel Core i7 3740QM , nVidia Quadro K2000M, IPS DreamColor2, Windows 8 Pro). The screen is not that grainy as I expected, it is very similar to my LG IPS237L LED display, but the screen quality is much better. Anyway graininess is totally fine for me.
Unfortunately I also have the issue experienced by you. Little pink cloud in the right bottom corner and small green cloud in the left bottom corner. I have the feeling it is less intensive after some time. Not good, but I think it is less visible than in your case. The question is if it is possible to get clouds free DC2 screen ?
Anyway I'm really amazed with this DreamColor2 screen quality. I put my Dell M4500 with TN screen and this 8570w with DreamColor2 aside and the difference is really huge. The colors intensity is hard to describe. So I want this DC2 version nowBut it seems these pink clouds are very common (I ordered mine in Poland). Besides that white is not that white, it is little yellow comparing it to white things and my IPS237L display.
Besides that the left latch does not go up after the lid is opened:
I need to press the lid opening button once again and then it goes up.
I don't know if I should replace it or not. I don't want to get another one with worse pink clouds or other issues.
BTW, this Samsung SSD 840 Pro is really fast ! It is what I got in CrystalDiskMark:
And here is the Windows 8 experience index:
CPU: 7.9
RAM: 8.1
GPU: 6.9
HDD: 8.1
Update: I just sent it back to the store because of pink clouds and bad latch. Now I'm also not sure if I should go with DreamColor2 display. It's true that photos look beautiful, but I have the feeling that for regular text reading and so on normal FHD might be better. It is more crystal and white is really white. So I really don't know which version should I get. -
Anyone know if its possible to upgrade the CPU from an i5 dual core to a quad i7 without replacing the motherboard? My guess is no since they use 2 different boards.
