    Hi,

I'm new here and I have just bought an EliteBook 8740W with i7 920XM and nVidia Quadro FX 3800M.

I installed Windows and all drivers and I ran 3DMark06. I'm wondering about the bad performance: only about 6600 marks!

Is it possible that this is caused by the 120W adapter? I think that the 8740W requires 180W.

    Thank you for answering. :)

    Regards
    Tilman

Which graphics driver has been installed? Here you can download the recommended one.

Hi blaze, thank you for answering - sorry for my late answer.

Yes, I installed that driver and it didn't help. Of course I uninstalled the old one before installing the new one. I also tried a clean install - nothing works! :(

That makes me angry; I think I have to buy a new graphics card (probably the FX 2800M which is pretty cheap). It's a pity, but the EliteBook was very cheap (800$ only).

You get what you pay for. :(

Am I right in assuming that you have already tried another AC adapter? What about the GPU frequencies? Do the frequencies increase under heavy load?

For me it's definitely the adapter. The GPU alone requires approx. 100W, leaving 20~30W (they have some room for extra power delivery, but it's not advisable for prolonged use) for the rest of the system, which is simply not enough.

Yes, you are; with the genuine and completely new AC adapter (180W) it's the same. I will try the software when I have the time.
