    Hello,

I have an Hp EliteBook 8740w with a blank screen and blinking leds. The notebook not switching on, the fan don't run, screen remains blank .

    Only battery:
No activity, notebook not switching on, no leds.

The power adapter connected (with battery):
No activity, only amber led (lightning bolt symbol) blinking continuously. After pressing power button, led (lightning bolt symbol) flash alternating between amber and light blue about 8-9 times. Then - blinking continuously in amber.

The power adapter connected (without battery):
No activity, no leds blinking. After pressing power button, light blue led (lightning bolt symbol) blinks about 8-9 times and then stops. 8 times and 9th is very short. The notebook not switching on, the fan don't run, screen remains blank .

I have already removed the battery and tried holding the power button (about 30 seconds). No luck...

Does any body know what these blinking codes mean?

Please HELP !!! Warranty expired in beginning of this year (2014) :(

    Thank you,
    BR,
    Arvydas

My guess is, it's the video card.

The # of blinks and/or the combination of lights is usually a code that indicates the problem. My suggestion is ask HP to see if they will supply you with the service manual that explains the codes. Or if they're willing to talk to you (I'm assuming you're out of warranty, so who knows if they will), perhaps they can just tell you.

I've experienced a couple of non-start issues with my 8740w - none recently - where the power LED and num lock/caps lock lights will blink and the screen won't turn on. I've always been able to resolve that by turning the notebook off and on. My guess is that is some kind of start-up/power on glitch.
