You can see part of my problem here:

I'm trying to install windows 7 x64 on a pair of 128GB SSD's configured in RAID-0 on the HP EliteBook 8770w but windows stops at the last part and won't let me install to the things.

I've tried legacy mode in bios.. UEFI hybrid.. UEFI direct.. nothing seems to work and I don't know what else to do.

Has anyone else here ever tried to do this and figured out how to make it work? I've been searching google for hours and can't find a solution.

Nevermind.. I'll just stick this spare 256GB SSD into here, install win7 on it in legacy mode + AHCI, and then use windows to software-raid-0 the two 128's together instead as secondary storage. Not quite ideal.. and not what I wanted (definitely going to be a good bit slower than the Intel Matrix RAID Option) but I'm fairly sure that installing an OS on raid-0 in these machines is only possible using UEFI mode & a UEFI OS (Windows 8, 8.1, 10).

    Hi Kithylin,
From within the intel RAID utility (ctrl I), Create a 1GB(or 2.3GB doesnt matter, just a small partition) RAID array first, and then another of full capacity. You can then install Windows on the full capacity RAID array. The first partition remains unused for now. I dont know why this happens, But it worked for me. (8760W with 3 SSDs - 2 in the HDD bays - RAID 1 - and one in the CD Drive bay using a caddy - For portableapps, downloads and temp folder)

Yup. Definitely works! I guess windows won't install on the first raid volume for some reason. As long as you create a small first volume and then a proper one to install windows on, it works. I can figure out 'why' windows won't install on the first raid volume(on many pc's not one), but so far I haven't found an actual cause.

I actually had to sacrifice most of the SSD's in my poor elitebook to offer up as trade for the repair to have the screen replaced. So it'll be several months to save up to get some more again and try this again. But, in the short term, thank you! :) Sounds very promising and bookmark'ing this for the future. I'll write back some day when I find out if this works.
