I personally still need an optical drive as I burn cds to play in my car and stuff. But, I think the Samsung Series 4 is a better choice vs the 2560 as it has a lower starting price, HDMI port(useful for some) while still having the optical drive, and if I am not mistaken it has 2 USB 3.0 as an option.

I've had Thinkpad T61p and it started to squeek after a year. The display hinges loosened up after a year or so. And The body got a lot of scratches and so on. Metal casing *should* prevent it from happening. I've ordered 2560p with i7 + 160gb ssd but i've dropped dvd (less weight) and modem (please tell me why they still put this ancient device in laptops?). But I didn't see 3-cell battery on that time but I was told that batteries from 2540p fit into new 2560p.

Lenovo X220 blitzes this round. Summarizing 2560P:

+ new design with island-style keyboard
    +/- optical drive, opinions vary
    - 2.5" 9.5mm primary HDD
    - no mSATA
    - no HDMI, though does have displayport

What I'd like to see in the 2570P is some real innovation from HP for their premium ultraportable. Ie:

    + IPS LCD, 1600x900 option
+ Thunderbolt port insert for the express card slot or just go Thunderbolt port
    + 7.5mm optical drive
+ 2.5" 7mm HDD via optical drive caddy option
    + mSATA SSD option

That would mean a newly designed ODD caddy with the 2570P chassis being slimmed down by at least 2mm and weight dropped by at least 150grams.

Yeap. I'll be waiting for the 2570p. The tablet's might be another whole story though.

I'm torn because I'm a fan of Thinkpads however I think that ibm did better job at making them. I'm also a fan of HP. And since I've got rid of my Lenovo it's time for HP :] I can only hope I won't be disappointed about my 2560p. I really dislike the lenovo's hinges but that new HP looks rock-solid.
    In my opinion:
    X220:
+ IPS Screen (though I always connect it to large display when @home either way)
+ less weight (but not so much)
    - clickable touchpad is not a good idea when on the move (train/car/bus) you find yourself clicking everywhere.
    - that delete key is where? (I personally use a bunch of computers and keyboard is a big deal for me I don't want to have keys moved across keyboards)
    - I *think* durability of hinges and that smooth bezel is at least questionable

    2560p:
+ metal casing should last forever if not dropped (you can carry it in a bag)
    + keyboard has standard layout
+ regular but great glass touchpad with buttons
    + looks almost unbreakable
    - no middle button for trackpad - I use is a LOT (it's used as 'paste key' in linux)
    - crappy display (but it's not a problem for me at all)

I still don't know when HP is really going to ship it to me...

Is the Ultra Wide Viewangle for the 2760p not IPS ?
