    This is interesting.

    HP 820 G2.

Look at some of the specs:

Future 5th Gen Intel® Core Processors
Starting at 1.34 kg (non-touch); Starting at 1.58 kg (touch)
Maximum memory 16 GB 1600 MHz DDR3L SDRAM

    Display12.5" diagonal HD SVA anti-glare flat LED-backlit (1366 x 768)
    12.5" diagonal FHD UWVA ultra slim LED-backlit (1920 x 1080)
    12.5" diagonal FHD UWVA ultra slim LED-backlit touch screen (1920 x 1080)

I like the FHD screen and 5th gen Intel core at slightly less than 3 lbs.

Nice find! I was hoping that the Zbook 15u G2 (ultrabook version of the Zbook 15) would be up there too, but it appears that they aren't quite ready yet.

Looks like the 840 G2 is going to get a PCIe SSD so hopefully its a M.2 2260 slot.

Nice to see the Ubuntu OS option across the board on these models.

Why, from our wonderful friends at HP Malaysia, of course!

    HP EliteBook 840 G2 Notebook PC| HP® Malaysia

    Some other notable features:
    • R7 M260X - Hopefully this doesn't throttle like the 8750M did
    • FHD UWVA Touchscreen - nice option to have for those who want touch
    • NFC

Looks like it should be compatible with all of the G1 accessories. Hopefully Broadwell offers either a good battery life bonus, or otherwise decent performance increase. I wouldn't mind even just a IGP performance increase for the same power consumption.

    Ofcourse from Malaysia! ;)

Looks like an amazing business laptop.

Im curious if its FAN-LESS and passively cooled. Imagine that? dead silent business level laptop :)

I'm torn between 820 g2 or the 840 g2 that is also now on HP website.

14" screen and approx. 0.5 lbs more in weight at 3.4 lbs.

If the 5th gen Intel core will add a few more hours of battery life, im sold! :)

    Nice find.

If anybody knows whether the M.2 connection and storage option offered allows PCIE SSDs that would be great... it seems like it from this storage option:

    256 GB M.2 PCIe SSD

Surely that should be faster than mSata..? Or what would be the point? Size?

Edit: This page suggests that the G1 is SATA 42mm M.2 NGFF (2242) however that doesn't mean the G2 will be the same OR that e.g. PCIe x4 would be supported..

good question. we shall see when its finally released and we study the service manual :)

    i think I'm sold on the 840 G2. 14" screen would be a killer experience :)

I doubt these models will be fanless. They all have fan vents in the stock photos and you probably wouldn't get the full benifit of Turboboost if it were fanless. That being said, the fan on my Elitebook 850 is one of the most pleasant sounding of any notebook I have owned. It ramps up and down intelligently in any OS and keeps the machine very cool in all use cases I have ran across.

Another benifit with the 840 is that it has a dedicated Page Up and Page Down keys just to the right of the Enter key.

As far as Broadwell goes, Notebookcheck thinks that the i5-5300U should perform like the i7-4510U. The HD5500 should be great, likely performing better than the HD5000. The best thing will be if Turboboost can maintain both high CPU and high IGP speeds at the same time. As it is with Haswell right now you can have one or the other but not both.

The problem with the current M.2 2242 SSD is that it is so tiny we only have space for two NAND chips. It can not even reach SATA6 speeds because this. With M.2 2260 Sandisk makes a couple of good PCIe SSDs that can get above SATA6 speeds, and it shouldn't be hard for the new Elitebooks to support them. You can be sure that the Zbook 14 G2 will support them at least as that is HP's flagship product.

I found a short post on the HP forums where it's not clear on what the G1 model M.2 drive is but I've asked the question there as it could suggest what G2 is.

    The service manual for 820 G1 isn't clear either - says: 120-GB solid-state drive (2242/DS M.2 form factor)

Would be a killer laptop for me if it had PCIe SSD speeds, and an mSATA SSD, 16GB Ram and decent screen resolution.

Am on a Lenovo X230 which is ok apart from screen resolution, not enough real estate at 1366x768. I think the X250 will only have 8GB Ram. Alternative is the Dell e7240 which is still last generation.

The 820 G1 used an Intel SSD Pro 1500, which was only available to OEMs as far as I know. Now we have aftermarket options from Transcend and myDigitalSSD that will fit and work.

In theory you should be able to get a 820 G2 or 840 G2 with a PCIe SSD, 2.5 inch storage SSD, 16GB ram and 1920x1080 IPS display once it is released based on current specifications.

I think the 2.5 inch drive is a better option than mSATA because it lets you choose a HDD if you prefer (for a cheaper storage drive) and allows for larger than 1TB SSDs which are now becoming available.

840 G2 is also out on hp India.

What I don't get is, the PCIe SSD support of the 840 G1. Did anyone try PCIe SSDs on it?

Frustrating nothing out of CES yet about this... HP's announcements have all been very consumer-oriented (ok, I get it's Consumer Electronics etc. but Lenovo have been launching tonnes of business-related stuff!)
