HP Elitebook 8760w Linux Issues

I've attempted to install Linux (dual boot) on my 8760w but have not succeeded due to what appears to be keyboard-mouse-touchpad-pointer mapping issues. In order to explore this problem I've used live USB versions of many different distros (OpenSUSE, UBUNTU, Fedora, Manjaro, CENTOS, Debian, MINT, Pop! OS and a few others).

According to HP, SUSE and Red Hat were certified on this hardware. I tried SUSE (SLED) but again, issues with keyboard-mouse-touchpad-pointer mapping occurred.

Debian Buster has come the closest to complete functionality.

BTW, this laptop and Windows10 work perfectly.

My 8760w has 16GB RAM, NVIDIA Quadro KM4000M, Intel Core i7 2820QM, Micron 256GB SSD.

The issue occurs when the keyboard is used. Mouse and touchpad buttons become remapped and pointer enters 'select' mode opening (like click and drag) selection areas when moving. Keyboard goes into insert mode and similarly appears to enter 'select' mode (like click and drag). Keys remain mapped to their characters but 'enter', 'tab' and other operational keys do not behave as expected.

Has anyone found a compatible linux distro which provides appropriate hardware mapping ?

try it - ubuntu 20.04 cinnamon.
problem - after to install wi fi module ( soft ) fall off.

 

I installed ubuntu 20.04 cinnamon yesterday.
Still having problems. The pattern is a bit more clear now.
-cursor jumps around during typing (forward and backward, sometimes up to previous line, sometimes down)
-touchpad buttons work as expected until keyboard is used, then they stop working, although the touchpad continues to work
-pointing stick works, will perform click and double click, but is super sensitive and 'sticky' (as if in selection mode)

Ubuntu and other linux user forums suggest installing/updating 'xserver-xorg-input-libinput' - and I'll try this next.

I am now wondering if this laptop has been modified, is experiencing hardware conflicts with linux which are otherwise ignored by windows.

 

Linux works best with a PC, we know that. Regarding laptops - here, unfortunately, either support was scored, or our device is too fancy for the brainchild of Linux =)
and... experiment, I will be glad to reports. I'm interested in myself! I have linux cinnamon and I have no problems except for the dumping wi fi module. If you run Linux Cinnamon from a flash drive, then wi fi works there, it's very strange. Try to start from the flash drive. Also, the GNU bootloader did not work well with the DC2 screen, and after installation everything was fine (except for the wi fi module) I did not have to run it through the safe mode (recovery mode). Perhaps installing will solve the problem. Also check if you have all packages installed in Linux and updated.
