    Hi folks,

I received my 8770w a few days ago, when I open iTunes or Speccy my blu-ray drive makes a noise, like it's searching for a disk to read...

    -Is this normal?
-If so, can I disable this?

    Thanks.

I don't personally own the device but if I had to speculate there is no way of turning it off. It's doing exactly what you said, checking to see if there is a disc in the tray. If your worried about it call HP and see if they can shed some light on the issue.

Typically the drive will only spool up like that if a disc is in the drive. I have 4 8770w's and none of them do that with no disc in the drive, in fact no laptop I have ever seen does that sans disc in the drive.

You allude to no disc being in the drive but I'm only assuming here, was there one? :)
