Hi!
I'm new to HP notebook models and I have a question regarding how to control fan speed of my NC2400.
The fan was mostly at full speed all the time, regardless of the OS being used (Linux Mint 13 and Win7 Ultimate). I've disassembled the laptop, cleaned the fan and applied new AS5 thermal paste, but the fan is still loud. I tried SpeedFan but I couldn't manage the fan to come to lower RPM speeds.
Any recommendation would be welcomed. Thanks a lot in advance!

if the fan stays on HIGH, then that's a MB issue... something is telling the fan to stay at HIGH.
you need to download something like RMCLOCK and report back what the actual temps are in F in you can!

was the fan dissemble-able? if so did you take the bottom cover off the fan and actually clean the fan motor, and verify that no blades are hitting any part of the housing? if so see what it says about the fan being brushless, ball bearing or sealed bearings...
if it's a BallBearing fan then you can add a drop of very fine machine oil to the inside fan housing and maybe buy some time till you can get a replacement fan.
hope that makes sense,

Thanks for the response. I've checked the BIOS but found no option to control the fan or at least to set a profile or something similar.
I don't think the motherboard itself has an issue. I've been using this laptop for around 4 weeks by now, and apart from the fan speed everything else is still working fine.
I'll give a look to RMClock and report the temps back here!
Cheers! -
Some feedback: Installed RMClock and after two hours of internet browsing + listening music in the background the temps never exceeded 64°C (147 F)
Fan is not running at full speed anymore, but still quite noticeable, unfortunately I can't get any fan reading with Speedfan. I thought a U2500 would be easy to cool down. Maybe I have to wait more for AS5 to cure. -
You could try using a vacuum cleaner to remove all dust not only from the blades of the fan but also from the blades of the radiator, and then apply a small drop of lubricant for fine bearings.
Just got my new Horize P150HM Notebook!

Fan is clean, as stated in my OP I've disassembled the complete laptop, cleaned up everything possible and applied new thermal paste to the heatsink. I don't think the fan needs oil, since it's not making weird noises, just running on higher speeds

Push! I guess SOME HP models must be supported by any fan monitoring software
