Thanks for the dump. Could you please make one more dump?
Put the fan into auto mode so it goes to 0 RPM, then close fan control and whole sensor screen. Then reopen sensors (fan should not be visible if it's off) and close it all. Then grab the DBG file.

Hi, here you go. Not sure if you wanted it in debug mode or not, so find one for debug and one for normal mode.

Thanks for the additional data. Unfortuantely I don't see any issue with the Auto control there, however the fan seems really to be stopped.
Please try to change the Fan Minimum Drive to a value of 0 or 1 before you switch to Auto mode and then see if that changes the situation (resolves the issue).

There's one strange thing indeed I noticed now. It seems as if the PWM (Temp3) value (probably CPU Power/IMON which is supplied to the fan controller and used as input to determine the required fan speed) is 0 in all those dumps. That seems as if that isn't properly working and supplying data to the fan controller, and may cause the fan to turn off.

Can you please make one more DBG dump of situation in original state when the automatic BIOS/SMSC fan control works? So ensure the original fan control works (clear settings in HWiNFO32 and reboot) then run HWiNFO32 in Debug Mode and open Sensors (do not open fan control). Then close and get the DBG file.

Yes, after a while it works again.
Disabling the battery sensor did not help. It seems to me the problem arises always after a 3DMark06 benchmark, where the system enters high temperatures. I have to power down my notebook via pressing the Power button. It's weird that after turning the notebook on again Windows starts normal.
If I monitor the temperatures with HWMONITOR 1.17 the shutdown completes successfull.
I also experienced a problem with disabling sensor information in the "Sensor Status" window. I disabled Intel (G)MCH and it worked(left side of screenshot). But after closing the window and opening sensors again, Intel (G)MCH appeared again(right side of screenshot).

How long is the 'while' after the fans work?
I tried to reproduce the sensor hiding problem, but can't - for me it works properly. Have you clicked on Hide? Also, have you hidden the reading only or the sensor (GMCH) caption too? Maybe a screenshot of the sensor Config window could tell more..

The fan turns 0 and after about 10 - 15 secs it shows again the normal rpm(about 2300 rpm).
The screenshots show how I configured (G)MCH!
The line (G)MCH gets hidden when I uncheck Sensor Monitoring and Show Reading(left side), but when I close the Sensor Status window and subsequently select Sensors again, the line (G)MCH appears again. Sensor Display Config window shows them enabled again(right side).

In case this is just a temporary issue of 0 RPM, then it might be caused by the fan controller which maybe needs some time to apply new LUT settings.

For the sensor hiding issue - do you have the "Remember Application Preferences" setting enabled?

Yes, "Remember Application Preferences" is checked.
Look at the screenshot of my HWiNFO32 configuration.

After disabling the GMCH sensor, please open "regedit" and go to: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\HWiNFO32
export the whole key to a file, pack it and attach or send.

I downloaded last version hw32_373_1230 and can confirm it's fixed.

I have a question regarding System Summary.
Can you explain the meaning of the differences cycled red in the screenshot?
I assume QJFC, QCMV, QCMU, QJFD are the version specs of the X9100 ES.
I didn't find them at CPU-World: Microprocessor news, benchmarks, information and pictures.
The only X9100 ES versions I know about are QHBQ (E0 spec) and QDBW (C0 spec).

    Thanks for the feedback.
QDF numbers are used on Engineering Sample parts, whereas SSPEC numbers are for Production parts.
Since on the first screenshot SSPEC has been displayed instead of QDF for an ES part, this was invalid and fixed later. One of the QDFs displayed by HWiNFO32 for your model should be visible on the CPU. But don't expect to find more details about QDF numbers, since this is confidential information. Thus I'm sorry but I'm not allowed to tell you more about this..

My installed X9100 ES shows QHBQ on the CPU!
None of the displayed QDFs are correct for my CPU!

HWiNFO32 uses information from Intel database and according to this database QHBQ belongs to a different CPU model.
Then it may be a bug in that database...

Say, does anyone know what, precisely, the "External 1" temperature is on an 8530w? I put IC Diamond on my CPU, GPU, and northbridge, and now my fan is actually louder than before. That "External 1" temperature is idling at around 52 C, but all the others (CPU Core, GPU, and ACPI) are more like 45 C.

I have problems with HWiNFO and the sleep state on my 8740w. It seems many times the 8740w freezes when I wake up the laptop. Also, when this happened, the fan was running at maximum speed. Anyone else has suffered this inconvenience/bug?

Being a little off-topic: I see our mate Mumak has been banned. Wow, I don't imagine why, since he was a polite guy and I think he fulfilled the rules  , except once when he posted a direct link to his application on this forum...
Moderators: excuse me if this kind of comments are not allowed in the forum

Ah, so that's why my laptop didn't wake up from sleep this morning! I sometimes have the same issue on my 8530w.

Is there any chance that the fan control will ever work on new EliteBook 8560p with Intel Core i7-2620M (Sandy Bridge)? I can't find any SMSC device in the Sensors window.

Any way to get this to work on an ENVY 17 Sandy Bridge?

    Hello,

thank you for your great aplication! I use my laptop almost 24/24 a day in summertime too! And after having installed HWINFO32 I seem to have fixed all of my:
    randomly sudden shutdowns;
    NVIDIA error messages;
    hard disk file system corruption;

I wonder: adjusting the fan speed almost to its max value may cause it breaks?
Are there available 2.5 inches hard disk with an operating temperature greater than 45°C? If yes which are?
Why the major hard disk manufacturers declare in the hard disk specifications sheets a temperature greater than the one one has to use HWINFO32?

    Thank you.

Thank you Mumak for HWiNFO32, it has solved my fan idle to Zero problem that was allowing my 2530p to get hot enough to trigger a much higher fan speed that I could hear. The silent idle speed keeps the heat in check for quite computing now!

    hi there,

i just installed linux mint 13 (cinnamon) on my hp2530p.
now i got this loud fan noise again. on windows i used hwinfo64 to control my fan speed.
is there any program to do the same like hwinfo64 on linux?

lm sensor detect doesnt work, it cant find any fan controller.
i tried to install hwinfo64 with wine, but that doesnt work either.

is there any workaround to get back the control of you hp2530p fan on linux?

Over one year later now here, and the same problem. Did you find a solution?

This damned fan was the only constantly annoing thing with this great Laptop. I was so happy when the hwinfo developer FINALLY found a way to control this damned thing manually!

After my switch to Linux, I've been extremely satisfied with the overall performance. But now the noisy fan is back and I can't find a way to make it shut up again.

If anyone has *any* idea about this, I'd be incredibly grateful.
