Hello guys, i bought 4530s 3 days ago and i noticed that when the laptop is in power grid i feel little vibrations near my wrists when i touch the courpus. Its hard noticable, but i think this is electricity, because the aluminium. Does anyone have the same problem?

If you don't have your PC setup to check for updates automatically, you might want to do a manual check for updates. After the updates run once, press the refresh button again and you will probably find more updates available. I had to do this twice to get all of the updates for my 4430s.

Is anyone successfully using the fingerprint reader with Firefox to sign on to web accounts? Even with Fingerfox's latest release I can't get it to work reliably. I think Firefox went from 4x to 5x to 6x to 7x so fast that the software developers can't keep up. Too bad. It sure works well in IE.
-
Are you using a USB 3.0 cable?
-
Shame it went crazy with updates, its been really bad since 4.0 -
Chrome ftw. Haha joking, I haven't been able to use my fingerprint reader to its potential other then logging in.

I'm struggling with my HP Probook 4530S i3-2310, (upgraded to 8GB DDR3 Ran memtest for multiple passes), Vertex3 SSD with latest 2.15 firmware.
Works great, nice and fast but when it goes into sleep (S3,S4 or whatever it is) when you try to wake it - it either resets into POST, or simply turns on, but a blank screen and a flashing CAPS button (3 flashes) and will only respond to a hard reset (holding power button down for 5 secs).
This sleep issue is even present with the linux distro that is used for flashing the Vertex drives! I cant secure erase the drive because when it goes to sleep after booting from the linux distro and following the instructions to unfreeze the drive (you must put it to sleep for more than 30 seconds) then wake it and perform the secure erase within linux. It won't wake properly after sleep in linux or windows.
Am I missing a BIOS setting? Bios revision is latest I could find - F.20
HP Probook 4530S i3-2310,
upgraded to 8GB DDR3 - (Ran memtest 086+ for multiple passes - no errors)
Vertex 3 SSD (Firmware 2.15)
Any ideas? Anyone sucessfully running an SSD with this laptop? Anyone running a Vertex3 with this laptop?
Help!!! -
Been working on this solidly tonight. Tried original RAM and still the same issue.
Put drive in a desktop, booted with the OCZ recommended linux distro. Couldn't secure wipe drive. Went through unfreeze process (eg unplug power to ssd and then retry secure wipe). It wiped it successfully. Then power cycled (shutdown/restart) into linux again. Force reflash of fw 2.15. Power cycle again. Couldn't secure wipe drive. Went through unfreeze process (eg unplug power to ssd and then retry secure wipe). It wiped it successfully. Then power cycled (shutdown/restart) into linux again. Then shutdown.
Installed Win7 x64 SP1. Installed Chipset, installed Intel RST. Reboot. Installed intel graphics. reboot. run windows speed index thingy... Manually disabled hard drive sleep in power options.
Now this baby wakes and sleeps fine!!! Yipeee!! Not sure if it was an issue where I originally flashed the SSD in the laptop on a ubuntu usb distro. Didn't secure wipe it at all. I hope some people can make sense of this garbled post! I couldnt see the F.20 BIOS option for secure wipe (mentioned in another thread)? -
Is anyone else having problems where the computer will not wake up after you put it, or it automatically puts itself, to sleep? This just started happening after I did all of the updates that the HP assistant recommended, including the BIOS update. Ugh. I can't get the BIOS to flash back to the previous version. The flash routine fails whether I like the BIOS flash utility try to do it all or whether I put the files on to a USB stick manually.

So sweet:
"NOTE: After this BIOS update has been installed, previous BIOS versions cannotbe installed." -
I do maintenance on my ssd once monthly with intel toolbox and of course disabled defragmentation. Sleep and Hibernation function as supposed with no issues... -
-
I mainly use my probook for dl and extracting / archiving and it helps me a lot , even just a simple restart of the machine is done in 11 seconds... -
how much ram you got in there? -

Ive used the 4530s and 4730s extensively now and have had no issues with them - highly recomended particularly now the have USB 3

Hello everyone. I bought my 4530s today, model nr. is LW843EA (( http://www8.hp.com/uk/en/products/laptops/product-detail.html?oid=5166712)) . It came with SuSe Linux and a whole bunch of bloatware. I tried to install Windows 7 Ultimate, booted it from optical drive (or as the BIOS says "Notebook Upgrade Bay") because it wouldn't boot from usb stick, and deleted all the partitions, clicked "Format" and Windows started installing. I thought the format would last a while, because there's a 640Gb disk inside, but no, it just showed a new partition sized 598Gb or so and continued installing. Ok. The installation was finished quickly, but Windows wouldn't start, it just wouldn't boot from hard drive. It has a weird BIOS, not anything like i have ever seen before. I tried setting the boot order, but no luck. Then i tried to use Hiren's Boot CD, which also didn't help much, as i tried to run Darik's Boot and Nuke and some other disk eraser programs, but always got an error stating that it could not be loaded and that i have more than 2 gigs of RAM (?). So basically now i'm sc*ewed. I found a "Disk Sanitizer" program in BIOS that says it will destroy all the data on the drive, i am running it now, but it is very slow, i don't know why, maybe it is formatting the drive, i am not sure. I will leave it running over night and maybe it will be finished tomorrow by the time i have to go to work.
Can anyone please shed some light on how to remove this SuSe Linux and all that extra software i don't need, and make only one partition for a fresh install of Win7 Ultimate?
Thanks,
Daniel -
First you install another Hdd and put win7 on it ,than connect the stock drive with a caddy/enclosure and format it .....to NTFS (Win 7 standard nowadays). Then Reinstall your stock and put win 7 on it.. depending on the other hdd you used if it was better than stock. Hope it helps you out and YES some times SUSE can play tricks, personally I would recomand UBUNTU as Linux it is much more straight forward than others out there. -

I know this is going to sound like a stupid question but what software do I need to download to take pictures & videos with the webcam?
None of the descriptions match on the HP drivers & software page. -
I'm sure there are better programs out there for sure. -
Did we ever find a replacement keyboard which can be used to put in here as a backlit one?

>>Actually, it still has issues with sleep. It still has problems waking (sometimes crashes or just a blank screen). I have the latest HP BIOS already installed. I still have an issue.<<
I posted about the same problem a few pages back. After trying every diagnostic I know, going back to only the original RAM, rolling back Windows to pre-update, doing a full system recovery of the hard drive, etc., I gave up and called HP support. In the end, they said to send it back to them. Reluctantly, I have done so.
My problem started after the BIOS update. Maybe it is coincidence but I really wonder if the BIOS update triggered something. The website says you can't restore a previous version of the BIOS. Tech support was adamant that you should not try to reload a previous version of the BIOS when I first called. Ironically, after about 40 minutes into the call, they told me to go ahead and try to flash the old version of the BIOS! It didn't matter because I got the same update failed message. By this time, I was not able to use the rollback function accessible in the BIOS itself. If you have not overwritten the BIOS by trying multiple BIOS updates, you might still have the previous version available to you.
After you press the power button to wake the computer up, what sequence of flashes do you get from the LED on the Caps Lock key? Try it with just 4 GB installed in the machine and then again with 8 GB in the machine. You may find the codes sequences are different. I got the 3 flash sequence repeated 5 times with one amount of RAM and then the single flash repeated five times with another amount or RAM installed. Those would indicate either a memory module error or a CPU function error according to the chart I found online. If it is a memory error, I think it is something on the motherboard because I did experiments where I switched out all combinations of my two memory modules and they never produced an error with Memtest or the HP memory utility.
For reference, here is an article on reading the flashes. I found it for another model number but it may still be applicable to our laptops:
Troubleshooting LED Blink Codes or Beep Codes During Startup or Boot HP Pavilion dv5-1004nr Entertainment Notebook PC - HP Customer Care (United States - English)
A tip to anyone calling support. One of the first things they will ask you is if you are using your PC for personal use or if it is a "personal computer." The support person was from somewhere in Asia and hard understand due to the language difference so I didn't really think about the reasoning behind the question. I said I personally used the computer. When it came time to send the computer back, this time they did not offer to send a prepaid express box like they did for a previous issue (that I fixed myself). Later, it occurred to me that I probably needed to say it was a business computer (which it is in my case) used for business. Now I am stuck paying for shipping and probably in the slower queue. Always claim your PC is a business PC used in your business! -

FWIW, HP said it was my motherboard that was bad and they replaced it. Time will tell if this actually fixes the issue. Interestingly, the new MB's USB 3.0 port has the common blue "tongue" that my original one did not.

I haven't been on the forum for awhile but my 4530s is working great everyday. No problems with sleep mode as I alternate between it and a desktop all day. It sleeps and wakes quickly always without any problem.
I upgraded to 8gb gskill 10666 memory but never had a problem with original memory and or mixed memory. I only got the matched 10666 gskill memory because of a newegg deal but it didn't increase the performance noticeably.
I am using the latest bios to date and all other drivers and windows 7 updates are current.
Been running Windows 8 on a desktop and another laptop and can't wait until its released since it runs perfectly with the developer preview version now : ) -
Hi, Can someone comment on the 4430s? It's $500 at Cdn newegg right now but I'm just curious.
It might not be available when I'm able to buy a laptop.
But, my 'laptop budget' will probably be no more than $400 - $500 although I'd need extra to cover tax and shipping if it's applicable.
I read some reviews and it seems ok. I have a couple of concerns, though.
1) what about HP's computer business line? The uncertainty surrounding that is a concern particularly regarding support/drivers (updates and CS).
2) quality - ProBook is the business line but is the 4430s good? Some laptops have a few QC flaws. I was considering an Asus U46 line laptop until I read reviews of people saying using a certain usb port when using earphones results in a hissing noise. Any annoyances with this particular 4430s series?
3) the Cdn version has i5-2410M but I can't confirm any other hardware really. What wireless chipset is in this laptop? I'm just curious.
Here's the exact laptop:
Newegg.ca - Recertified: HP ProBook 4430s (A2U87U8#ABA) Refurbished Notebook Intel Core i5 2410M(2.30GHz) 14" 2GB Memory 320GB HDD DVD±R/RW Intel HD Graphics
It has bluetooth so from the hp site, it looks like it's either a Ralink or Atheros wifi chipset or maybe Intel? Can anyone confirm?
I think either would be okay but it looks like the Ralink has more antennas or might have a stronger signal? I need it compatible with Linux but I think those three would be, at least, eventually.
Any other info to offer?
This looks like a decent laptop for the money at first glance but they're 'refurbished' so I wonder what issue they were having.
Edit: I'd probably add more RAM, too, btw. Is the 2GB standard in the laptop, just one stick?
Thanks for any info.
I'm trying to decide whether to upgrade/replace my desktop or sell the current components and put it towards a laptop. -
Hi Guys!
Does anybody know where I can find help online for a problem I'm experiencing with my Probook 4530s?
It has the charge indicator light flashing white and orange, will not power up at all. Tried countlessly to hardboot, still nothing.
Please help, don't wanna send the thing off for unnecessary repairs if I can fix it myself. It's only 2 weeks old.has anybody else experienced this problem? -
Sent from my SGH-i917 using Board Express -

I love my 4430s.
I upgraded to 8GB.
I downloaded both the atheros and ralink drivers. Not sure which one it uses, but it the wireless chip isn't good like I hoped. My friend's dell laptop when sitting next to mine always seems to have better signal. Hate that so I'm planning to get a wireless-n adapter. -
Hi,
I want to change 4430s 14" matte lcd panel into my Asus laptop because it is much superior to my original one. Could some one please check what lcd panel HP has put in it?
You can check it by downloading Monitor Asset Manager 2.6 and checking from there. This is the direct link: http://www.entechtaiwan.com/files/moninfo.exe
For example in my computer it says this:
Monitor
Manufacturer............. CMI
Plug and Play ID......... CMI001B
Data string................ BT140GW01V9
Thank you so much if you help me! -
Just bought Hp 4530 (Core i3 4Gb Ram 320 Hard Drive) Pretty happy with the performance so far. But I would like to ask a question, Can I play FIFA 2012 in this Notebook? My notebook has Intel(R) 3000 HD and as per FIFA'S requirement they need 512MB video card. So please guys help me out here

Down to $474 now and even lower at $404 on eCrater.com.
Note that the i5 version new is around $700 at Staples (in store) and comes with 4GB, 500GB HD, and a USB3 port.

a few pet peeves:
1) left shift key TOO SMALL!!
2) Fan a bit noisy for my liking
3) volume bar sometimes glitchy
Yes i know I'm picky but other then that 10/10 -
Hey guys, not sure if I missed it in the previous pages but is there no way to replace the standard 4530 keyboard with a backlit model? I don't even care that much about the audio but the lack of backlit kb is the only thing keeping me from buying a Probook...
EDIT: Nevermind, I guess there's no workaround. HP's stupid for not offering backlit as an option for the larger ProBooks or non envy consumer lines (I hate red backlighting).
I really don't want to wait for CES but it looks like it's down to Dell or Toshiba in the same price range... -
Thanks Much appreciated. -
Check out the above ... Normally all games install with options set to standard then you go play with settings in Game optoins etc... Hope it helps you out. You should play the game with your Probook. -
-
Now what can I do?
Thanks -

Does anyone know if the probook 4530s will take ddr3-1600 ram. I know it takes ddr3-1333, but I would like to put an even faster ram in there.
