Laptop definitely should be able to handle something like FIFA. Is it a genuine copy of FIFA? If it is then there is no way it should be doing that. If it's still doing it try re-installing it and if that doesn't work then tell them you got a defective copy or something.

Never saw an error like that, Altough EA Games tend to do stritcly DRM's in their games so Yes I agree with VA1 if it is not Genuine then there's not much you can do unless you know what your doing. And If it is genuine ask from were you bought it then...

    Hey guys,

First of all, forgive me if this has been discussed previously; I didn't want to sift through all 51 pages of this thread and a keyword search didn't find me anything...

Just bought a 4530s on Black Friday special from TigerDirect. It's going to be a Christmas gift for my mother, but I'm going to do a fresh Win7 install etc. so it's all cleaned up and ready for her to use when she opens it.

Running CPU-Z, I see that both the Intel Integrated Graphics HD and the AMD Radeon Graphics cards are detected. Running the windows performance test on the laptop (just for fun), I got 6.5 on "3D Gaming graphics", but only a 3.3 score on "Graphics for Windows Aero" or whatever.

This is a pretty drastic difference, which prompts my question:
are there some unusual circumstances on the 4530s where the system will switch between the Intel HD chipset and the Radeon card? It seems to me the 3.3-rated graphics test probably used the Intel chipset while the 6.5-rated graphics test happened to use the Radeon card. At least, that's my theory...

    Hi Hopper82,

i am about to buy a 4430s with an i7 and

i was hoping you could give an update on the 'minor' issues and if the i7s are throttled due to heat?

im curious if those problems have been solved or if its still a concern?

    thanx

So I backed up the SWSetup folder to a DVD and did a fresh install of Windows 7. It appears from Device Manager that I've successfully re-installed all of the drivers as there are no "unknown devices."

However, I'm finding that only the single USB 3.0 port works, and the other three USB 2.0 ports do not. I've tried clicking all of the "USB Root Hub" and "Generic USB Hub" items and selecting "update driver" and pointing it to my backed up SWSetup folder, but everything says I have the most up-to-date drivers.

    Any suggestions?

Darn driver problems eh? Try downloading/re-installing drivers of software right from the HP website (there was a link and someone who had a similar problem lingering a few pages back I believe.)

Does anybody know if the 4530s can take a FHD or HD+ screen.
Does also anybody know how the screen is connected? (30pin-40pin left-right etc).
    Thanks for any info

Crazy question but anyone tried to put 16gb of ram into the 4430s? I know the max 'official' limit is 8gb but my old dell 'officially' says 2gb ram but I put in 4gb and it worked perfectly.

I have tried to search to see what the max ram limit is for the HM65 but no luck.

However, this page shows a whack of Lenovo notebooks with the same chipset and they all have a max ram of 16gb...so I wonder if its possible.

LenovoLenovo Essential Notebook Memory RAM Specifications

    Ideas?

Maybe HP limited their mobo's ???????????

As VA1 and others told you ... buy em .. try em and tell us :)

Anyone know where I can buy a nice 9-cell battery or just a better 6-cell battery than the PR06 that came stock in my Probook 4530s?

I would search the thread but whenever I try, even for the most basic terms, it claims the word can't be found.

<1 minute of searching :) Looks decent...however a bit on the expensive side considering how it is basically 1/5th the price of the laptop

I just received and install an upgrade to my i3-2310m. It is an 2630qm bought on a great deal on this forum's marketplace. The difference is staggering. Cinebench went from 2.x to 4.78.
Offcourse the cooler showed its weakness. After a while maximum turbo stacks to 2,4ghz from 2,6ghz. So far no throttling.
Does anybody know a way to upgrade the cooling? (buying the cooler of the gpu model would be better but I don't find anything online)

Sorry hard to follow. Judging by the sounds of it, you may have gotten a faulty one? Try returning/exchanging it for another...most stores will allow it as you have only had it for essentially one day. If no avail, give HP a call because it should be covered under manufacture warranty :)

    I don't get the question.
On your 4430s it is very easy to replace the cpu. You just have to remove the cooler. Be glad to understand and answer your question.

I got my 4530s from CompUSA on Black Friday. So far I'm very happy with it, but contrary to the online spec pages and the CompUSA product listing it does NOT have a USB 3.0 port. Can anyone confirm this? I am considering whether to open an inquiry with CompUSA and/or HP to address this, as it obviously does not match the printed specs.

They are making them again with a 3.0 port. If you bought one based on an advertisement stating 3.0, I personally would contact them and tell them to send you one of the new ones that has 3.0.

I dont think the dedicated gpu heatsink will fit the 4430s and 4330s. Check out the picture on pg 70 of the manual. the system boards look to be different.

    http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c03054507.pdf

and for all those who ask 'how do i replace...'

the linked service manual tells all.

The vertex 2 40GB SSD; I wanted to know where you placed it. I was going to get a SSD for my 4430s and use it as a boot drive.
Did you put the SSD in place of the optical DVD drive?

I also want to replace my processor to an i7, but it seems complicated.

msata is the same slot size as a pci express but it allows booting. so if you have a msata ssd, it can use the sata controller from the motherboard = a stand alone win7 drive and the hdd can be a data drive.

if its just a normal pci-e, then its just power to an ssd, no access to it...or at least thats what i believe.

do you know if can you actually access the ssd in the pci-e but just not able to boot from it?

also anyone do a clean install and left with a 'unknown device' left afterwards?

putting in an ssd in place of the optical drive is dead easy. just look at the manual that i linked to earlier and you can see the optical drive is held in by 1 screw. just pop it out and go to ebay and search SATA hdd caddy and make sure the connection is the same as the picture.

also the processor replacement should be dead easy as well. 6 screws. just becareful when apply thermal grease.

im gonna drop an i7-2820qm in my 4330s. just waiting for the cpu

ill get a thread going when i get it done.

Okay, here's the skinny on the Wintec expresscard ssd and the ProBook. The Wintec does use the pci-e bridge in the expresscard slot. It reads at ~115 MB/s and writes ~65 MB/s. I've checked this with SiSanda, and other reviews have also verified that the claimed speeds are, in fact, accurate. The ProBook BIOS does not allow for booting from the expresscard slot. This is not to say that the card doesn't have it's uses. Before I got my SSD, I used it to host readyboost, my pagefile, and my temp files/cache. It's not as fast as a RAM disk, but you don't have to worry about where on the drive platter the files are. Also, I have used it as a Linux drive. As long as you create /boot on an SD card, your HD, or a USB drive, you can place all your other Linux partitions on the expresscard ssd without any issues.

Now that I have my SSD and have a 2nd HD caddy on the way, I'll either use it to keep files I'm working on under both Windows and Linux, or I'll use it as a place to keep active VMs so I don't eat up hard drive space (or something else worthwhile).

When you replace the processor do you have to adjust any settings or update anything? Or is it kind of like "plug-n-play" so to speak like a RAM upgrade?

take a look at the service manual i linked to earlier.

it shows you pictures and instructions, then you can see if its too difficult.

the only thing is to make sure your bios is up to date and your dont static charge any components.

i shorted a mobo before with using too much thermal grease that was conductive, so just do a little homework before you go jumping in.

One more proud owner of 4530s... Got it yesterday... It was described as one with core i5 2410m and no USB 3.0... When I unpacked it, I got core i5 2430m and USB 3.0 port (with blue color and "SS" mark)...Also Devices manager recognized USB 3.0 hub...And it is switchable with HD 6490m 1 GB GDDR5... The only thing which is missing is a fingerprint (but I really don`t need it)... :)

I am more than just satisfied with my purchase... :)

How do you update bios via usb? I have f0 and want to update to f20.
I've downloaded the bios update file and used that to format and prepare a usb stick. I've also installed hpbiosupdate.efi on the same usb. When i try to install I get "bios update failed". I've even tried moving the bios update files into "Hewlett-Packard\BIOS\New" folder and still get the same message.

I got a deal on a 2540m cpu for $100. Do you think I should take it or bump up a notch and wait for a 2630qm or 2670qm? What would be a good price on the i7s?

I'd stick with the i5 personally. Ivy bridge is set for release soon enough and will make the sandy bridge i7 look old already. Unless you actually need the extra boost of speed, I wouldn't take it. My probook has an i5 and my other dell has an i7 (both second gen) and for what I do I hardly notice a difference.
