Well from the variuos models I come across in my work inc Dell , other HP's , acer , and Toshiba ... I can conclude that this model has a very dull picture unless calibrated and tweaked... but IMO its still a good screen and yes resolution is not the matter in this case.
RE:
You could take it back from where you bought it and see if other same models are displaying the same. Sometimes when a screen is faulty can start by deterioration sympthoms. Hope it helps you out.

HP sent out an informational email about the following problem. It is good to read and know about the BIOS issue and workaround because I bet the issue might surface with other USB devices at some point.
------------------
DESCRIPTION
Connecting a wireless mouse receiver to any USB port on the notebook causes the Num Lock key to become disabled. As a result, the embedded number pad no longer allows standard numeric input. Pressing the Fn key in conjunction with the embedded number pad results in the expected numeric input, however.
To resolve this issue, do the following:
Restart the notebook.
Press F10 to enter the BIOS setup screens.
Select to System Configuration > Device Configuration , then disable USB Legacy Support .
Select File , then select Save and Exit .
When a USB dongle for a wireless mouse is inserted into a USB port on the notebook, the BIOS treats that device as both a mouse and an external keyboard. This is because many USB dongles for wireless input devices can be used for both types of devices. As a result, the BIOS installs the drivers for both mouse and keyboard and then turns off the embedded number pad as it would for any USB keyboard.
By disabling USB Legacy Support in BIOS, the notebook no longer recognizes USB devices before the operating system loads and therefore does not automatically disable the embedded number pad when a wireless mouse or USB keyboard is connected to it. -
You can't "tweak" away an uncrisp pixel grid or low level of maximum contrast. It's just not physically possible to go any further than the hardware limitations of a poorly made screen.
Go into the nvideo color panel and you'll see. Turn EVERYTHING up. On a so called "tweakable" monitor, it will be so blown out that it will almost blind you. This just means that the hardware is good and you have lots of room to play with higher maximums.
On a poorly quality lcd. Regular looks bad and blown out barely looks normal. -
My 4530s (i5 + 6490M) will arrive tomorrow. How can I update the catalyst? I guess the stock AMD drivers won't work, and HP's driver is pretty old :/ 12.4 speeds up Battlefield 3, so it'd be great to install it somehow.
-
First install the drivers from HP and then download latest Catalyst standalone installer and install it and it will be just fine!
-
I did some benchmarks (i5 2450M + 6490M (7470M)):
Latest HP driver (8.91-111013A-132348C - 30 Jan 2012)
Crysis Warhead:
DirectX 9.0c MAINSTREAM 3X @ Map: ambush @ 0 1366 x 768 AA 0xx
==> Framerate [ Min: 13.43 Max: 36.09 Avg: 28.13 ]
Mafia 2 - Ultra: 20.5 FPS
Call of Pripyat (combined): 54 FPS
AMD Catalyst 12.6 (8.980.0 May 22) AMD Official BETA
Crysis Warhead:
DirectX 9.0c MAINSTREAM 3X @ Map: ambush @ 0 1366 x 768 AA 0xx
==> Framerate [ Min: 17.18 Max: 34.76 Avg: 26.91 ]
Mafia 2 - Ultra: 19.5 FPS
AMD Catalyst 12.7 BETA (8.981.2 June 12)
Crysis Warhead:
DirectX 9.0c MAINSTREAM 3X @ Map: ambush @ 0 1366 x 768 AA 0xx
==> Framerate [ Min: 17.99 Max: 36.42 Avg: 28.58 ]
Mafia 2 - Ultra: 21.0 FPS
Call of Pripyat (combined): 56 FPS
So with 12.7, games are about 3% faster. Better than nothing -
Do you have a link for the Catalyst standalone installer please...
or is it this one 'catalyst_12-6_beta_windows7' 175Mb
Cheers. -
so only beta/leaked drivers.
BTW, my notebook has 1x4 GB memory - if I buy another 4 GB stick, would it speed up because of dual channel? -
It would speed up because of more RAM.

For those who are looking for the latest 4430S BIOS, F.27 was just posted.
-
Btw, I still have F.0A on mine, everything's fine, so... would it worth updating it to F.23 or F.27 when it comes out?
Oh, and maybe I'm crazy, but I overclocked the 6490M a bit, just to try how it goes. It's at 900/950 MHz right now (from 750/900), and that gives ~15% improvement in games, according to my benchmarks. This makes the thing ~4 °C hotter, but the GPU never reaches 80 °C, so I overclock it while I'm playing heavy games, and if I'm at a cool place -
I can't find F.27 on HPs site or on the list here.
-
Use HP Softpaq Download Manager.

Hey everyone! I signed up just to ask this question...Anyways, I have an HP Probook 4730s(No Difference Other than Screen Size) and I want to overclock my AMD Radeon HD 6490M. I've used ATi Tray Tools and Rivia Tuner, but my games crashed as soon as I used them..And after that I used MSi AfterBurner...and then they crashed after 10-15 mins of gameplay...(The Witcher 2, Spec Ops the Line.) Then I found this thread....I got full control over my fan! I enabled maximum speed and overclocked (Default- 750/900 OC'ed 880/980) and it still crashed. Then I found someone who OC'ed it to 900/950 in this thread. Could YOU the person who did so help me? Did you take any special steps? I have BIOS F.27, CCC 12.7 BETA 4 GB Ram Intel Core i5 2430M@ 2.40 GHZ AMD Radeon HD 6490M/7470M. Thanks in Advance!
P.S This Thread is filled with Geniuses! -
Well, I've installed 12.7 BETA (jun12 beta, but that's not important), and MSI Afterburner, then opened MSIAfterburner.cfg, and edited it to look like this:
Code:... UnofficialOverclockingEULA = I confirm that I am aware of unofficial overclocking limitations and fully understand that MSI will not provide me any support on it UnofficialOverclockingMode = 1 ...
I think that you don't need to set fans to maximum speed, because it automatically keeps itself cool - my GPU is never warmer than 82°C, which is perfectly fine.
BTW, I tried ATi Tray tools, but I had a BSOD with it - even if I didn't overclocked anything! But I've heard that you can undervolt your HD6490/7470M with it when using default clocks - It sounds nice, I may try that sometime as well...
I use 940/970 for demanding games like Crysis, but I had one crash on a long play - 900/950 is rock stable for me, and I guess it could go higher, but only the gpu OR the memory - I've increased both before I had the crash, so I don't know which one is too high. I'll experiment a bit more with it when I'll have time.
For you, I recommend setting 850/900 first, and if it's stable, go higher, but only with one, not both clocks (like I did). If you reach the GPU MHz where it crashes, lower it to the point where it didn't crash (and this time, test it fully, not just for a minute or so). If it's stable, start increasing memory clocks using the same method.
Oh, and don't forget to post your results, I'll do it too -
Well, now I'm using AMD Overdrive... You can enable it through:
Open 'run' then paste this (without quotes) "C:\Program Files (x86)\MSI Afterburner\MSIAfterburner.exe /xcl" and restart your PC after getting the message. You can uninstall MSi Afterburner afterwards...btw, can you control your GPU's fan speed in MSi Afterburner or does it stay grayed out?
850/900 was totally stable for me! =D Now I'm gonna push it to 900/960......anyways, imho, I think overclocking it with AMD Overdrive is more stable (Not Sure). Because I played Batman Arkham City for sometime @ 900/950 and it didn't crash! Now for thorough testing. I think my GPU is reaching a certain temp too fast...which is causing the lockdown. This is very strange as I have a cooling pad AND fans running at 100% all the time! -
Well, tested 900/950. Crash after about 15 mins of gameplay... :'( Anyways, then I tried 880/950 and it worked like a charm!
Now just set the clocks to 880/940 just to be on the safe side
How about you? You know what? I think there is something that forces my GPU to stop if it reaches 80'C or 85'C...As now after 880/950 while playing The Witcher 2 64'C is the max temp!
I just don't get it...and I want to disable that limitation...
-
I know this is a weird question, but can someone who has opened the laptop itself for some reason tell me how many fans there were and if there was a separate GPU fan?
-
Finally found my Problem!! *sigh* My thermal shutdown occurs at only 75'C!! Anyone knows how to increase this? Its way too annoying!
-
Try to test it with FurMark (without AA, Burn-In test) on stock clocks, it may heat up to 75 °C, so you can check it - it's a very intensive stress test. And - at least on the 4530s - OCing only makes the VGA 5 °C warmer at most, so it should not be the issue
EDIT: also check your CPU temps, maybe it crashes because the GPU heats up the CPU to 100 °C, and it shuts off itself. According to the statistics, it never gone over 88 °C in my 4530s, but it worth a try. -
The energizer bunny says that these guys have really good, american made batteries.
Laptop Battery Replacements for Dell, Sony, HP, Apple, Compaq, Gateway and More -
Fully Sure. I know, that's why I'm asking. I was playing Battlefield 3 and constantly checked the temperature. The maximum I saw was 73.5 'C in GPU-Z. A fe seconds later it crashed. As for the CPU, it never goes over 70'C
I'm pretty sure because I also checked HP Fan Control. I don't wanna use FurMark. It's an easy way to kill your GPU faster!
P.S- I don't have a Probook 4530s/4430s. I have a 4730s. -
Warning! The "cpu temp" you see in HPFC is the GPU temp! The tool uses the gpu value and treats it as cpu temp. You should use something elese, like aida64, to monitor the real cores temp.

After a lot of testing and benchmarks, I have come to a conclusion. That is- When on stock configuration, (750/900), Upon reaching 75'C my GPU Throttles down. But when I overclock it (the amount doesn't matter) if it reaches 75'C, the GPU can't throttle. For this reason the BIOS or whatever is responsible shuts the PC down.
-
If throttling is active with stock clocks, contact HP support, and tell them that your VGA slows down after some mins of playing, and it always happens at 75 °C, maybe they have a solution -
Nope. It's not added by F.27. It was present in F.20 and F.23...*Sigh* I've given up on overclocking.

Is the Probook 4330s supporting mSATA drives?
-

If don't mind hardware hacking a 4330s, including soldering, then it would be possible to thread the e-SATA port internally to a empty spot to host a mSATA SSD. -

I have a drive caddy on my other probook already and it works great, however, id like to keep the DVD-rom on this machine. -
Where did everyone buy their 4330s, 4331s, and 4230s ? I can't find these ANYWHERE. I mean, there are a couple of 4330s on ebayus, but without discrete graphics and at like $700! There are some on UK ebay, but same problem, 500+ GBP.
The only place I can find 4331s at is a thailand overclockzone forum.
And I can't find a 4230s anywhere!
Any insight on how you all came by these systems? -
Can the people who used HP Fan Control please tell me what your maximum RPM was? When I set it to '0' it is usually 5342 RPM. However, when I'm playing demanding games (Battlefield 3) It randomly shoots up to 54xx. Now I know this isn't much of a difference, but how do I know that these are the maximum that can be attained? Maybe it can go higher!

Hey all, new to the forums. I recently purchased a Probook 4430s from newegg. I installed a new 8GB G.Skill 1600 Kit of RAM and at first it showed as 1600MHz in CPU-z. Then I updated the BIOS from F.0A to F.27 the back down to F.20 and neither will run the RAM @ 1600. It looks to be now on 1333. Any way to fix this? Oddly enough after the BIOS update my W.E.I. score went up for Memory and Graphics even with the RAM only running at 1333 now. What gives?
On a side note, I just had a panic attack that my laptop may have been affected by the Intel B2 stepping recall but it turned out My serial # checked out clean from the issue even though CPU-Z shows B2 revision still. -
Bump... I know I can't be the only person that updated their BIOS and saw 1600 RAM clock down to 1333...
-
I think there was a similar discussion on this issue... Try search and good luck!
Anyway it seems that RAM speed is limited to 1333MHz by BIOS although CPU itself and chipset support higher speeds! -
It's not exactly a simple search like "broken space bar" or "lcd too dim"... "BIOS update kills 1600 RAM speed" doesn't exactly yield several results. Obviously the BIOS is to blame for the speed drop being that on F.0A it was allowing the proper 1600 speed. I just wonder why HP would kill the ability to use 1600 RAM when it's obviously hardware supported. Maybe a RAM reseat?

I think the thread below is what are you looking for:

Thanks!
New issue, this one may be easier to resolve.
I installed a new Samsung 830 ssd and did a fresh install. I found all drivers but bluetooth is not showing up in windows 7 at all. Pretty sure I installed the correct driver. Device manager doesn't show any missing devices. Any insight on this? I'm afraid I'll have to install something HP related but I don't want to start installing HP bloat that I don't need.
Edit: Problem solved, device manager had BT radio disabled for some reason. Installed the HP connections manager and it turned it back on. Wonder if I uninstall the HP Connection Manager if it will re-disable itself. -
Sorry guys that I'm coming to this thread with nothing but issues that need resolving. I have everything working well now with a new SSD and a fresh install of Windows. All drivers are loaded and everything looks good but now when I wake my machine up from sleep the optical drive pops open for no reason???? Anyone know what this might be?
-
Is there some way to stop the battery from recharging after it drops to 95%? I want to change it to ~90% (to protect the battery).
-
Can anybody recommend a wifi card to replace the atheros card in the 4430s? I should've gotten the intel card when I bought this laptop.
-
Can anyone please suggest, If I will need additional hard drive caddy to replace primary drive with SSD.
I am also concerned about anything breaking down during installation because getting support from HP customer care in India is impossible and I will be completely on my own. I recently bought HP Mini 110 and found its bluetooth adapter is not working. I tried contacting them through web but never received any confirmation nor response to my questions. I tried calling their call center support and guy immediately took my number and told me somebody from their team will get back to me but nobody did. I am now confused, If I should buy this laptop of not. -

You can now disable on-screen notifications (from an HP email today):
If you want to disable certain notifications, you must directly modify the Windows Registry as there is no method for doing this inside the program itself. The following are the Registry settings than can be changed to implement the desired results:
Registry Key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Hewlett-Packard\HP HotKey Support
Value Name: VolumeOSD DWORD 0
Value Name: AmbientLightSensorOSD DWORD 0
Value Name: BrightnessOSD DWORD 0
Value Name: CapsLockOSD DWORD 0
Value Name: NumLockOSD DWORD 0
Value Name: ScrollLockOSD DWORD 0
Setting the value to '0' disables it. To reenable it, set it to '1', -
For those who are looking for the latest 4430S BIOS, F.28 has been posted.
-
Edit: Flashed new F.28 and still no 1600 memory speed support.
