How could I remove DVD faceplate from 4330s drive?
I'm going to replace it with caddy and I don't want to break something.

First open the drive (with a paperclip or similar), then turn it upside down: there are three clips holding the faceplate. A small flat screwdriver is good for pushing the clips one by one. Start at the right side, it's easiest.

Is HP 3D Driveguard compatible with hdd in caddy? :)

//EDIT: I'll answer myself: It's working for caddy. I have Hitachi Travelstar Z7K320 in caddy.

I brought HP Probook 4540s Corie i7 Quard with 8gb ram, 750HD, 2GB dedicated Graphic Card. I enabled Hyper v in BIOS and it was working fine. When i increased the ram from 8gb to 16gb for better perfomance windows 8 became extremely slow and i am unable to work on hyper v. When i unplug the extra 8 gb then laptop works fine. I tried everything upgraded BIOS etc. I returned the laptop to the shop. Please advice me which hp probook will solve my problem or any another laptop with 16gb ram.I will highly appreciate if someone help me out at the earliest.
    Regards,
    Adnan

Well , officially it is 8gb , un-officially it works with 16gb but on a very early version of Bios. I don't remember which one was but it was mentioned earlier in this same post. Some people here upgraded their Bios and lost that feature. Last thing , 16gb worked well on Windows 7 and even on Hackintosh OSX.

You could go with an i7 (quadcore) bearing in mind that you will sacrifice processing power for the sake of battery drain and heating issues.

That's not entirely certain. Where Celeron struggles at 100% usage for a long time, it could be just a sneeze for i7 cpu. For daily tasks i7 might as well be the cooler option.

The best CPU you can have is the Intel Core i7 2630QM Quad Core processor.
I have it, and it is amazingly fast. My computer never lags.

Regarding any heating problems, I have played games on maxed out settings and the computer was fine. Make sure you add good thermal paste when replacing the CPU!

    Hey guys,

I recently bought a 4530s (2.2ghz i7 with amd 6490m model) and want to add some better thermal paste to it. How much of the laptop will I have to disassemble? I know that if I wanted to replace the CPU I'd have to take the entire thing apart, but is there a quick way to get the heatsink out? Thanks!

That's not the best CPU you can have, in fact as it's the slowest quad core, it's slower than some of the dual cores, depending what you're running, the clock speed is slower than many dual cores.

You can (basically) run any Sandy Bridge gen 2, 2xxx socket G2 CPU's with 45w TDP or less on a probook 4x30s.

    I run a 2760QM which is a 2.4/3.2Ghz quad (which is around 10-15% faster than the 2630QM)
The fastest quad you could run is the 2860QM which is only a little faster than mine 2.5/3.6Ghz it's got more cache, but that won't make any difference for but the most specialised things.

Depending what you run, you could be better off with a 35w TDP dual core like the 2640M, your battery will last longer, less fan noise, faster when you're running fewer programs, however, if you want to run virtual machines, you could be better off with a quad (but check it has full virtualization 27xx 28xx)

I chose the 2760QM because I run virtual machines and this was the best price/performance for me, if you have deep pockets and money doesn't matter then a 2860QM is an option, but there's a cost in battery life, choosing a fast dual core like the 2640M may be better (cheaper/faster/cooler) unless you're converting video or some other thread intensive applications.

    So, best isn't always obvious!

I replaced the 500GB hdd in my 4430s with a Samsung 840EVO 500GB ssd. The process was pain free and took less than a hour. Samsung provides a clone application. Plug the ssd into the 4430s USB3 connector and click start. Replacing the drive was easy. Removed 4 screws to remove the caddy. 4 more screws to remove the hdd from the caddy. Put the sad in the caddy, replace the 4 screws. Plug the caddy back in and replace those 4 screws. Very, very, noticeable performance improvement.

I was researching the cpu upgrade options for the Probook 4430s and I was using the rPGA 988B socket as a reference. I noticed that the i7-3630 uses the same socket and was wondering if would be compatible with the system in terms of BIOS?

    HI everyone.
I can bet that my question would be heard, but I was searching about 3hours for adequit drivers for my Probook 4530s, Windows 8 64bit Pro version. I have i5 Processor. I can see by searching google that I am not the only one!
So this seems a knowing place to find this thing out!

So my question: I am searching Switchable Graphics drivers that are compatible with my system specs!. - Where could they be?

My Video Card: Hd Radeon 7470 (High Performance) and Intel Graphics Hd4000 (Power saving).
But now I can get only Intel Graphics Hd3000, because he doesn't let me to update.
And approximately the same with AMD Radeon card.
And the Hp homepage, gives drivers for Intel HD 3000 and HD 7000 series driver. (Like in the picture)
    Screenshot_1.jpg
    So,
    * I have tried many pages and many types of driver versions (Beta versions too), none of them work as Switchable Graphics drivers (Discrete Graphics)!
P.s. Sorry for my gramatical mistakes. :D

EDIT: There is a possibility that Drivers, Software and Firmware for HP ProBook 4530s Notebook PC - HP Support Center
Would work! - But it gives Hd3000 card and HD6490 card drivers. Those are not the real ones for me!
    Picture: Screenshot_1.jpg
    - Instead of : Screenshot_2.jpg show in picture (HD 7470).

    SHOWN IN Catalyst suite: Screenshot_3.jpg

PLEASE HELP ME! :) Love Gaming, so can't live without :D

Wow this Forum has got me ruined already I just wanted to say this is my first post I have always been a Desktop guy accept one little netbook I had I threw across the room less than a week after I got it. Slower then hell anyway it was an Aspire one ATOM slower than a nuclear bomb by far so I tried splitting the atom I guess. I got this 4430s Probook and first thing I wanna do is put a faster CPU in it trying to figure out if I need to put extra cooling in here for an I5 or I7 or what I was just going to get an i5-2430M I think I can just rest the bios somehow drop this in and start it up after putting a little of well AS5 or PK-3 so any help here if I am in the wrong place please let me know. I want to make sure this little thing does not burn up within a week. thanks

I was reading further back into this thread and saw the question of whether or not an Ivy Bridge CPU would be compatible with the 4430s in terms of the BIOS. Has anyone tested to see if it would be compatible?

Hello guys, I have a 4430s and I'm having trouble booting from a cd to install windows 7.. I don't see the drive listed in the bios...

Also, is there a way for me to update my bios from a flash drive without Windows installed on the hard drive??

    thank you

I've got a weird problem with my Probook 4535s. After upgrading the BIOS to the latest F40, automatic fan control no longer works. I can change it in BIOS (fan always on when AC connected), but with the option turned off, the fan never starts even if the temperatures reach 70-80 degrees.
I downloaded NBFC (Notebook Fan Control) and it seems to work for now. But it seems pointless to have an extra program installed just to control the fan. I reinstalled the BIOS but it didn't change anything.
Has anybody had a similar issue where the BIOS stops controlling the fan automatically?

When the same issue happened on bios f.25, the solution was to disconnect ac power and battery and leave it like this for a minute, and it would be fixed next time you boot up.

Recently I began having problems with USB ports in my HP ProBook 4430s laptop. All of a sudden a port stops reading an external keyboard or mouse, or a flash drive, or a headset - same devices it has been reading for 2 years. Any ideas how this problem can be fixed?

    Hello to all!
I have my probook 4530s (LH318EA) for more than 2 years and I have been experiencing the problem during the last months.

When HD3000 is on, everything's ok, but when working on the AMD GPU I have sudden freezings. It happens in random, perhaps when I overload it with multiple chrome of firefox tabs, it just freezes, after the fan going a little loud for 2 seconds, and needs to be shutdown (though I noticed that the web-radio continued playing like nothing happened).

I have already tried clear installs of OS, drivers updates, bios system checks, cleaning browsing history and cool fans often and my antivirus is in good shape with original licence.

    My system:
OS: Windows 7 Professional 64-bit Service Pack 1
    Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-2410M CPU @ 2.30GHz
    4GB SODIMM Samsung 1333MHz
Radeon HD 6490M / Mobile Intel(R) HD Graphics

After all Probook has been working just fine for me, even playing games like Crysis3, it's a pity now to be left just with the Intel Graphics... or this was the deal in the 1st place for just about 700 euros?

I was wondering is it possible to install a 1600x900 or 1920x1080 screen into a HP Probook 4330s?

The default 720p screen on a 4330s is horrible as in most budget business laptops.

Does a 4330s use a dual channel LVDS interface and cable?

After all it is such a nice little laptop and much cheaper than a Elitebook 2560p. I have installed a I7-2630QM CPU, ExpressCard USB 3.0 interface, 16GB RAM and dual HDDs using a HDD caddy (64GB SSD + 2TB Seagate 9.5mm)

After replacing my ProBook with a ThunkPad and having my wife's Aspire One lose some keys to our three year old, I've turned the ProBook into the Windows equivalent of a Chromebook: All the libraries have been relocated to OneDrive (we each have 1TB of storage). I did a fresh install of Windows 8.1 on the 80GB SSD, put the optical drive back in and kept the 16GB of RAM. This thing is amazing for what she does and then some!

    Hi to all,

A quick question: is it possible to set a cloned external monitor at a higher resolution than 1366x768 while having the built-in display at the 1366x768? Both displaying the same image just at different resolutions?

    Would really appreciate any help,

    Thank you,

    Hello,
I'm an owner of a HP ProBook 4530s, i5, 4Gb RAM and 500Gb HD and I'd like to upgrade it (the max I could).

    - I've already ordered a module of 4Gb in order to reach the 8Gb
    - I've already ordered a 480Gb SSD by OCZ in order to replace the current HD 500Gb

    3. I'd like to change the CPU with a new one i7 processor.

Could you inform me please :
    1) where should I order/buy a new i7 socket ?
    2) which model do you recommend me and why ?
    3) could I install the CPU by myself or it is not so simple (like RAM or HD replacement?)

    PS. I use windows O/S (Win 7 and 8.1)

    Thank you

    George

Try a clean install, if it didn't work, it may be a problem with the graphics card.

I have been using this notebook for the past 3 years and have never been satisfied with its real world performance from day 1. My specs are core-i3-2330m,8gb ddr3 ram,500gb 7200 rpm, which I thought was more than sufficient for basic browsing and java programming considering my much lower spec (dual core e5400 desktop, with 4gb ram) didn't break a sweat doing the same task. Here are the issues. have always faced
    1. Boot up time is long..even on a clean install. compared to my lower spec desktop
    2. At times I had to keep the laptop running the whole day just to let the laptop complete windows update install.
    3. Starting up any heavy intensity program will take a long time..Eclipse takes ages to load and compile.
    4. I remember while setting up jdk..even running javac on the terminal took about 5 secs to process.

I first suspected the hdd maybe the issues ..but all benchmark and diagnostics tests came out ok..read - write spead of 95-100mb/s avg.
Then I checked on the processor as well..but its core temp is fine as well around 35-45 C. on avg load

I am at my wits end. on trying to boost my productivity on this laptop. Have I got a lemon. or maybe the hm65 Chipset is slow.If its indeed an issue with laptop i don't think an ssd upgrade will help as well.

    Hi,

I have HP Probook 4330s (i3 2310m, 8gb RAM 1333MHz, 1TB Samsung EVO SSD). I have upgraded the BIOS (F.60, 03/13/2015 version). I want to upgrade the CPU on my computer. This laptop was also delivered with i7 2620M and i5 2540M, so it should be possible to upgrade to any of these CPU’s. On the other hand, other users have also upgraded to i7 2720qm (see here), i7-2820qm (see here), i7 2630qm (see here) i7 2670m (see here, and here), i7 2860qm (see here, and here)

The best thing I like about this computer that it stays cool, no matter how much I use, or how I use. I use it on ‘lap’ (sometime for many hours) and it remains completely cold underneath (fan works constantly, but not hot enough air to make it uncomfortable), without having the need to put anything under it. So my question is, those of you who upgraded the CPU, does it heat up more? More enough to have a need to put anything under it? Please share the experience for those of you who upgraded the cpu.

    Please tell.

yes, faster processors generate more heat, but it still depends on processor load. i think you'll feel the difference only under long time load

but there is one more thing should be taken into account - maximum TDP system can handle during some long period. looks like this value is locked for specific motherboard (bios?) - 35w for 4530s (i suggest 4330s too) and 45w for 4730s. i've installed 2760qm into 4530s and noticed that processor is running at 2.6 GHz on full load (4 cores), on 4730s it runs on 3.2 GHz for short time period (30 sec, realtemp shows 55w) and then at 2.8 GHz for unlimited period (realtemp shows 45w). heat sink replacement on 4530s (taken from 4730s) does not solve this problem, while temperature remains low (~60 C) max frequency remains limited to 2.6 GHz. 35w systems can't use 45w processors at full speed.

so if you install qm processor, it will give you more cores but lower max frequencies

Thanks. This is completely new, and probably none of the others checked the actual perormance of the processor after upgrade. Good point!

Was happy to see that this forum was still active, hoping I might get some good advice here again.
I've been using a Probook 4530s (bought 11/12) going on 5 yrs now with no problems (other than the replacement of the HP OEM 320 GB HDD under warranty before opting for a Toshiba 500 GB unit that has held up > 3 yrs now).
I have the entry-level build for this unit: Intel Core i3, 8 GB RAM, Win 7 Pro x64, AV: MSE, MWB Prem, SpyBot
Nothing else upgraded from orig, other than updating of all HP drivers/software, and Micro Updates.
However, I've never been able to download the large 'Service Pack' SP1 of bundled updates: after innumerable dwnld attempts (with/wo AV), all other recommended diag/fixes, simply gave up.
Without SP1, no Explorer upgrade is possible beyond 9.
Up to now - for my simple uses - this was OK, but any online work is becoming more difficult bec Exp 9 is not compatible with most sites now.
I am not esp tech savvy, have helped myself with most things up to now, but after a few calls to PC pros (and getting high $ quotes) I realize that a major reconfiguration of OS, browser, etc is required.
I would welcome any suggestions as to what I might be able to do myself, what I should farm out.
Otherwise I have an attachment to this HP: strong aluminum case, big display, decent batt life (with extended cell).
Don't mind the weight, probably stop a bullet! Thanks!
