    Any thing more than a i7 740qm isn't going to be cheap and fairly expensive but the performance gains in threaded apps will be huge. Disable the hyperthreading (in Bios) and performance in most apps will improve a little more. There is one big catch that the i7 quads use almost twice as much power and thus can dump a lot of heat so make sure you scrub the cooler and fan before throwing everything back together.
