Have you seen this?
HP ProBook 5320m Business Notebook
Really looks like a nice upgrade from 5310m![]()
-
is that a legit source?
-
It's mine! If they let me go beyond 4GB RAM. Seriously what a slap in the face. I can do anything on a 13.3" screen with an i5. But 6GB is my minimum.

Nice find, I imagine this notebook will come out soon. Looks like the same thing as the 5310m save for the processor.
I wonder if the 5320m will have more than one RAM slot. -
Nope, 5320m also have only one RAM slot.
-
For additional specifications, take a look here
FWIW, there are refurbished 5310m units with the SU2300 ULV CPU being sold by HP Outlet for $379 -
Has anyone actually seen it yet?
-
I'm also very interested in this laptop. Haven't seen it yet but it is available for purchase here in Norway.
Most retailers just display the mainstream consumer notebooks here but Ill have a look around and see if I can find it somewhere to take some pictures etc. -
Has anyone seen this live yet?
-
I've been looking around the tech stores here in Norway but with no luck.
Seems that they aren't displaying the more business oriented notebooks but rather the ones targeted at Consumers.
I still got a couple of stores left to visit so fingers crossed. -
-
How are the noise levels? Can you hear the fan or is it basically silent in idle?
-
the onboard intel graphics allows me to play hd/bluray-rip quality videos. -
Nice, can you show some real life pics of the laptop?
-
Hi!
does anyone have the 5320m with the 6-cell battery? I am curious if the battery sticks out of the laptop. Pictures and videos are welcome -
Also, can somebody confirm if this model suffers from CPU whine. I was considering Toshiba R700/R705 and Asus U35JC, but reports of CPU whine and loud fan noise have put me off them.
Edit: From the specs on page 17 of the following pdf:
http://h18000.www1.hp.com/products/quickspecs/13671_div/13671_div.PDF
The dimensions for both the 4-cell and 6-cell batteries appear to be the same. So, I would assume the 6-cell battery would not stick out.
Also, from this UK HP website:
http://h10010.www1.hp.com/wwpc/uk/e...57-64295-3955552-3955552-4222577-4257548.html
The 6-cell battery appears to be 'standard'. You would think that the 'standard' battery wouldn't be sticking out. -
First review is online:

Hmmm, according to the review, the battery does stick out:
-
I just wish it could handle more than 4GB ram and a better screen resolution than 1366x768 pixels.
-
I am getting my 5320m with 6-cell tomorrow.
I can post a photo of the laptop with the battery, and i really hope i can get a 4-cell battery if it sticks out. -
Thanks mulle. Looking forward to seeing the photos.
I hope it's not the same battery as the 6-cell for the 5310m:

Also please post the specs listed on the battery if you can (Volts, Wh, mAh -- any of those) and the part number. I suppose a photo of the battery bottom will do. -
And also a short review about the laptop would be appreciated, thanks.
-
Allright, my laptop has finally arrived. First impression: solid, beautiful, 2 stickers win7 and core i5, these will of course be removed. The 6-cell battery sticks out, just as the images that the link some posts above shows. It really isn't a big issue, but i will buy a 4cell battery to get the slim fit, which was the reason that I bought it.
Windows 7 are installing, I can post more later. -
mulle, once you get the 4 cell battery, can you let us know how much battery life you can get out of it.
-
I wander if the following 6-cell HP battery will sit flush:
HP FL06 Notebook Battery (BQ352AA#xxx), Part No.: 594796-001
According to the specs at:
http://h18000.www1.hp.com/products/quickspecs/12152_na/12152_na.HTML
it has dimensions of:
Dimensions (HxWxL) 0.8 x 3.8 x 8.6 in (2 x 9.5 x 21 cm)
A height of 2cm is less than the height of the 5320m.
mulle, are you able to provide us with the model number for your 6-cell battery?
Edit:
I found a picture of the BQ352AA battery:
http://www.batteriespack.com/batteryproducts.php/1+HP+BQ352AA#
The dimensions quoted on this site are 218.00 x 95.85 x 8.90, which differs to the dimensions quoted from the HP site. -
Sounds good, let us know about:
1. Screen quality (viewing angles)
2. Keyboard (any flex?)
3. Heat and noise
4. Battery life
5. Performance
Thanks a lot

Anybody understand Czech? Here is a recent review in Czech. It seems like there are some heat and fan noise issues but I am not sure if Google translate is accurate. May be new owners can comment on those...

Hello, a few days ago I bought HP ProBook 5320m with Core-i3 350M, 2GB Ram, 320GB HDD. HWMonitor shows ~50 degrees C for both cores even when idle (in Windows 7). When running some 3D games, max core temps reached 73 degrees C. The fan is always rotating even when on battery and is a bit noisy too. These temps look too high and the bottom gets unpleasantly hot. Does anyone else experienced the same behaviour? BIOS version is F.01 from 2 Jun 2010. There is a newer version on the homepage but the described fixes have no connection with high temps.

Thank you for replying! Wish the temps were a bit lower though. Should I try some undervolting? Will it work for this CPU?
-
Charles P. Jefferies Lead Moderator Super Moderator
It is not possible to undervolt the Core i3, sorry.
-
Anybody know when there will be a refresh that allows for greater than 4GB RAM? I don't see why they don't allow 8GB sticks.
-
-
If you want something similar from HP with 8GB RAM, get the 4320s:

Yes, I am also a bit disappointed. I have not contacted HP support yet. While the laptop being noisy is quite annoying I am still concerned about the high temperatures. Running a stress test using Prime95 for maybe 10-20 minutes made both core temperatures reach 92 degrees C (according to CPUID Hardware Monitor). There is also a small vibration all the time that I can feel on my palms while working. I am wondering what causes it - the CPU fan or the HDD. For now I do not want to invest more money for a silent HDD. Especially while I am worried about the temperatures.
-

In my experience with the 5310m, the vibration was caused by the included Seagate 7200.4 hard drive.
What kind of hard drive does your system have? Press the Windows Key + R, type devmgmt.msc, press Enter, then expand Disk Drives and type what it says here.
Once I replaced the Seagate drive, I have not noticed any vibration even when the fan is at full speed.
On the temperature note, 92*C is toasty. The 5310m has similar traits as far as noise goes . . . at idle it is nearly silent but once it starts rotating faster, it starts whining. -
I also believe the vibrations are mainly from the HDD. It is a seagate one, 320GB, 7200RPM. Right now I am at work and can not tell what the model number is, but I guess it is the same as in 5310m (the 320GB version). In fact it looks like 5310 and 5320 are very similar except for the CPU, the VGA port and the touchpad. While reading your 5310 review I noticed almost the same issues as with 5320. Yesterday I spoke with the HP support (live chat or something). After telling my concerns about high temps, the reply was "it seems to be a hardware issue, as its a brand new notebook, please contact the vendor from where you have purchased the Notebook to arrange a service for the Notebook." and "as the brand new notebook shows this issue, please contact our phone support team to get the Notebook examined." All this is really frustrating
Finally I am wondering are the temperatures shown in CPUID Hardware Monitor correct at all. After mentioning the ~90 degrees C CPU temp, the support guy said "switch off your PC right now." Well as I said this temp was reached with extensive computing tasks, but even so should I monitor all the time the CPU and use only some simple applications to keep the notebook working? Obviously it is meaningless. Now I am really disappointed with HP. And I thought it was a quality brand...
@Charles: what are your CPU idle temperatures? Do you also use HW Monitor? -

Yes, if it's a Seagate 320GB 7200RPM drive then it is a ST9320423AS, which is a 7200.4 series drive. I have concluded that, in addition to having subpar performance for a 7200RPM drive, it has a poor quality motor and vibrates a lot. Definitely worth replacing, IMO. I often recommend a Western Digital Scorpio Black (the WD5000BEKT is the fastest one, 500GB 7200RPM, and the WD3200BEKT 320GB 7200RPM is also good and about the same speed) and Hitachi 7K500 (250GB or 500GB 7200RPM versions, very good performance as well). I have a 7K500 500GB in my notebook, there are basically no vibrations or clicking.
@phead -- idle temps in my 5310m with the Core 2 Duo 2.26GHz are 39-43*C right now, in a ~72*F room. I'm running on battery.
I don't think your 90*C temps are abnormal, unfortunately, it's just how the notebook is. It's not unheard of for a CPU to run that hot. The Core 2 Duo in the 5310m can get in the 80*C range and higher under load.
HWMonitor is likely correct; you can try CoreTemp as an alternative:
Core Temp -
If you look at the Czech review posted by MuratK:
NOTEBOOK.cz - Notebooky Recenze - HP ProBook 5320m - lehký a kovový
You'll see that the reviewer also reported that the temps hit 80*C under load. As for the loud fan during idle, that's probably not normal. -
-
To be honest should I not just get a 5310m? i mean, i do i really need the extra 2 cells and ther core i3, the sp9300 probbly will suffice and ther 5310m is widely available.
does the 5320m have any big big advantages? or maybe they are ruining a good package, like they changed the screen in the 5103 from the nice on on the 5102.
600 gives today the sp9300 5310m. should I waity
(not i would like to edit some HD vids from the camcorder, and maybe some photoshop now and then) -
charles kindly answered some questions on another thread. the only differences between 5320m and 5310m is the display port and cpu. newer one seems to have vga out. also, the battery, i saw some extensive tests on the 4 cell and it runs from 1-5 hours depending on what you are doing. my guess is a video lasts about 3 hours on battery. bit less than i was hoping to be honest.
charles mentions the spacebar issue, and it being fixed on 5310ms version. no idea what that means since the sites i see are listing 5310m (no s) and so I wonder if they have the issue.
but overall, it seems pointless waiting for the 5320m unless you specifically needs the 6cell...which of course most of us do. -

sadly, my attempts at purchasing a 5310m seems to be failing. sparco shows tells me very little or no stock..1 item left! no thanks. could be a dud.
will have to wait for 5320m or..maybe I should get the 2540p? is there much difference between them i wonder, if you had a choice? ok, one is dearer, but still that doesnt bother me much. -
I'm too lazy to read the whole thread, so just a short advice guys, If you're looking to buy a 5310m, - make sure you get one with the BrightView display, the other one is not very good IMO.
