I just received my HP Probook 6475b that my friend ordered for me in December (since this model is not available in Indonesia). I specifically purchased the one with A10-4600m, 1600x900 screen and 8 (2x4) GB of memory.

However, I noticed that the performance is rather slow, so I checked the memory configuration using cpu-z. To my surprise, it is setup as single channel. When I checked the system information and system monitor, I note that even though it detects the full 8 GB of installed memory, only 3.45 GB is usable. The rest (4.655MB) is shown as "hardware reserved".

I tried many things to make the dual channel work, as well as restoring the rest of the memory. I tried upgrading the BIOS, even reformatting and reinstalling Windows 7 64 bit. Nothing works. Then when I opened up the laptop, I notice that if the laptop doesn't boot up if I only fill in the bottom memory slot. I have to fill in the top memory slot, whether the bottom slot is filled in or not, in order the laptop to bootup.

So my question is, is my laptop broken? I really hate sending this thing back to the States. Also, if it is repairable in Indonesia via HP Service Center (since it is under warranty), I am sure I need to wait a few weeks while they order the right part from the States.

    Thanks for your help.
