Yes, it is not that bright at all.
About the flatness problem, I uninstall the bottom and and did some slight adjustment and it is now flat.

One another thing is, the G3's synaptics drivers seems not so professional. I cannot believe that the middle button of the trackpoint cannot be set to 'scroll'. Yes you can check, you just cannot set the middle button as 'scroll' like thinkpad or dell or even like zbook G1 and G2!

Also, for the DC3 screen, if I disable the hybrid graphic card so that the system solely use NVidia m3000m card, there will be a big chance that the screen becomes very blur and I have to restart the laptop. It is really weird, but I guess it is a driver problem. However if I enable hybrid graphic card, everything becomes OK, except that you cannot use DreamColor assistant in that case.

I have not done that test you suggested.
However I feel the calibration is in hardware like the old DC2 did as you mentioned. And I feel that you can only calibrate the color through the dreamcolor assistant software in the discrete graphic card mode.
If I uninstall that DC assistant and enable intel graphic card, it seems that the screen might not be able to be calibrated, and it is always in native color mode.

Does anybody know what kind of PCIE SSD the zbook 17 G3 uses? Someone said it was shorter than usual, was that correct?

Also, did anybody install the second PCIE SSD? Did you take out the normal hard drive? I am worried about it will be overheat if it was put under the hard drive.

Only partly correct; you can also calibrate the monitor using a Datacolor Spyder Color Calibration tool, or one from another company; I just happen to prefer Datacolor. I have one of the sets that includes the calibration tools for monitors, cameras, monitors, etc., and it's not cheap. But if you're requiring good color monitor calibration, then I'd recommend the Spyder Pro5, which is their current top monitor color calibration tool. It's about 50-60 bucks more than the basic version, but it calibrates in different light settings, which is important, especially if you're traveling and need to rely on calibration more than if you're just using it in one spot in your office/home.

Like I said, they're not cheap, but if you're like me and require calibration for both print and digital media design and output, it's nothing short of necessary, especially if you're going between RGB/CMYK/LAB, etc.

Here's the link to the Spyder Pro5 on the Datacolor site: http://spyder.datacolor.com/display-calibration/

    Okay,
Since I USED TO BE pretty active on the HDX Dragon Forums and others here but have taken a LONG HIATUS, as well as upgraded my system to a 17 G3, my first question is: Has anyone else lost their Fingerprint Reader after installing one of the standard HP recommended updates?

Initially, I ran the updates, but didn't restart to complete it immediately. As a result, the system went to Sleep Mode, and when I woke it; back up, I was back at the login screen, my FP reader wouldn't accept **** (all entered fingerprint records were history), AND.....I couldn't even login normally just using my PW. The only way I could access it was by restarting and then booting in Safe Mode w/Networking.

It's a damned good thing these things come with 3 years top level support; as a former HP tech myself, I was NOT amused. In fairness to the the HP Tech that took my case, he stuck with it for nearly 6 hours.

Didn't fix the damned thing, but at least he got it to the point where I can just login normally with a PW. Then again, I opted for the FP reader for a reason, the same as I did on my HDX. Botm line is, it's there per my configuration, paid for, and I want the damned thing to work; whether or not I choose to use it or not isn't the point.

SO... the question to the group is, has anyone ELSE been through this SNAFU and if so, what was your outcome, or how did you get it to work?

Yeah this happened to me. Aswell I had to just go into the soft pack and download the driver. You'll need to set it all up again but it's a big deal.

On anther note would anyone know how long a system stays in customs for? My laptop was shipped a week ago and it's been on crappy customs canada since HP can't really help, Livingstone can't help and FedEx are being a bunch or oddballs about it

This machine is a replacement for a defective machine, correct? Maybe HP had to do a special customs declaration because no taxes are being paid on the shipment. That may have flagged customs to process it manually.

How is your new Zbook working? Do you like the DC3 screen?

I got the HP Thunderbolt 3 dock for my Zbook Studio yesterday. Its been working ok although it doesn't detect external monitors if you plug the dock in while the notebook is sleeping.

I have been thinking about trying an eGPU with a GTX 1070 with the Zbook Studio, for my external displays. I really like the size and weight of the machine, although the UHD panel is still very hard to deal with and I am looking at trading mine down to a model with FHD and integrated graphics only.

This is pretty good the fan has been randomly whizzing but 1 thing I am finding odd is I cant seem to find how to enable the integrated graphics as well as the m5000m. It doesn't up in device manager at all for some reason.

another ****ty thing that happened was they put the m2 screw on a bit too tight and because of that its kind of not in ise because I cant put the zturbo in. I did put one under the first HDD bay tho. The screen is actually really nice, I'm not sure how I would use a 4k screen but the color is magnificent.

If anyone has any idea on the xeons integrated graphics bios and how to remove that screw give me a shout :)

I took it to a service station and they said they attached it as tight as it can possibly go. I had to get a pliers on it to actually open it.

How are the fans for your systems over there?

Got the 200W dock today. The model is hstnn-cx01. I bet it is the same as 65W dock except for the cord and the power.
Also, can anyone tell me why I cannot make it work with my zbook 17 G3? I have installed those drivers indicated in the manual.

Following the steps in this document I was able to make the 150W dock work with my Studio:

    http://h20566.www2.hp.com/hpsc/doc/...693765&docLocale=en_US&docId=emr_na-c05178033

The dock does enumerate correctly resuming from sleep if you are using Windows 10 Anniversary Update (1607) or newer. However sometimes screens connected to the displayport connectors will not detect properly resuming from sleep. If they do not, I have found that simply unplugging the dock, waiting for the thunderbolt icon to disappear in the taskbar, then plugging it back in will bring the displays online.

And you claim that your DreamColor screen is beautiful and has no problems with dimness, eh?

Any chance you could get us a nits reading to see if it's at the advertised 300 or at about 250 which is what another reviewer wrote (about the HP DC UHD on the Studio) who complained about the dim screen?

I'm perfectly willing to believe that some of the screens are defective and that yours isn't -- but it would be good to have some sort of base for comparison. In my case, I put the Zbook G3 next to DCs on an 8770 and two 8760s. The difference was shocking.

I've just finished setting up my ZBook 17 G3 with the Intel HD 530 and M2000M graphics, 32GB Ram, i7-6820QM

I've had a similar problem but not exactly the same: Some videos would play fine in a browser, but when you go full screen the display goes black, but the video is still playing (you can hear the audio). If you go back to non-full screen you can see it again. This only happened on a display connected to the ZDock Thunderbolt port replicator, with the monitor attached using display port. This did not happen on the laptop's display.

They only way I could fix it was change the BIOS setting for graphics to "Discrete graphics" only. Both the "auto" and "hybrid" mode still would not play video full-screen on the external monitor. The downside of doing this is that I think it will shorten the battery time in normal use if I am not docked (unless I switch back to hybrid).

When it is in hybrid mode, I can't see any way to determine or control which graphics device will be used (I've seen some notes for the AMD graphics, but not for the NVidia ones).

Maybe your browser is running on the Intel graphics card instead of the nvidia card? The external displays should be directly connected to the nvidia card regardless of which mode it is in, so you may not get Fullscreen video if the app is not being hardware accelerated. Nvidia has a tray icon app which lets you monitor if the Quadro card is in use. It can be enabled in the nvidia control panel. It may help diagnose the issues you are experiencing.

FYI, I have not seen this issue myself on the Zbook Studio using nvidia 369.09 and Intel 4483 drivers. Also using a dock and an external display connected to it. It could just be driver related...

Hi, I have an Issues with the Zbook 15 G3 audio.

I have installed all the drivers but it seems like the sound will randomly just stop working. Its completely random. Sometimes in windows, sometimes when back from sleep.

A reboot always fixes it but this is very disappointing considering the audio quality is so great.

    anyone have this happen?

I'm looking at the ZBook line (17", 4K screen) for my next mobile workstation, although I will probably wait until they have the Pascal version of the Quadro available. I'd like to toss out some questions to those who own the G3 machines now:
    1. How is the keyboard feel on these machines? I'm a very fast touch typist, and I not only program but also write lengthy technical reports, and I spend a lot of time in terminal sessions. I prefer a very pronounced clicky feel (though I don't care whether it's audible or not) with a lot of tactile feedback. Does this sound like the ZBook?
    2. I need 2 TB of onboard NVMe SSD for my database work, and I'm thinking of buying a ZBook with no factory-installed storage (as a CTO), or with the cheapest mechanical drive and then removing it. I'd then plug in a 2 TB aftermarket Samsung 960 Pro NVMe M.2 SSD in one slot, leaving the other open for expansion. Has this been done by anyone else, with any of the 960 Pro series SSDs? Or do you recommend something else?
    3. I'm seeing a lot of reliability issues in this forum. Is that because the millions of owners with perfectly-functional machines don't post, or should I actually be concerned that this model isn't up to HP's usual high quality level? I'm familiar with HP servers and have had great success, but I have never owned one of their laptops.
    4. Because of what I do, I tend to wear out keyboards. Has anyone replaced their own keyboard with a replacement part from HP, and if so, how hard was it?
Thanks for any comments and recommendations. The ZBook is only one of several machines I'm considering, but it's among my top 3 right now.

    Hi everybody,

I am going to buy ZBook 17 G3 Workstation. I would like to know if it is possible to disable touchpad on it. I see some general instruction on the web but would like to get confirmation from the owner of this particular workstation who actually successfully did it.

    Thanks.

Yup in the top left corner if you double tap it. It disables it. Or you could go into the Windows settings and have it disable touchpad when a mouse or wacom is plugged in.

    Thank you for your reply.

    1) Yes, I knew about double-tap, but I am afraid it won't work for me. It works like "toggle" and when I type quickly (especially on the left side where CTRL/SHIFT/ALT keys are) the touchpad will randomly go on and off.
    2) I've read about Windows settings but they were given in some general form and supposedely work for any HP notebook with Synaptics touchpad. So I am very interested to know if you actually did it and if it worked as described on your own ZBook workstation?
    3) If it worked for you then the last question is if this setting is persistent. meaning that the system remembers it and you do not have to repeat it after each reboot.
Please confirm and give me a peace of mind :)
Thanks again for your prompt response.
    Ted

Hey yup it works seamlessly for me and it does not give issues. I have a zbook 17 g3 and 15 g3 and they both act the same in the settings.
