Hey Everyone...I found this forum and wanted to share my recent experience with the HP ZBook 17 G3. Got it last week and noticed a strange orange tint when looking at the screen. After discussing it with HP they agreed that it must be a hardware issue with the screen and I arranged to have a replacement sent. Got the replacement yesterday...and guess what...it had the same orange tint issue. Called HP again and provided them with a picture of the screen with a test image displayed along side a different HP laptop with the same test image displayed to show the difference. Basically anything silver looks almost gold and you can see the orange tint even on a white screen. Keep in mind that we looked at this test image on about 5 different laptops and they all looked the same...but on the ZBook (orange tint). Does anybody else see the same thing on their ZBook? Final word from HP is that the difference is simply the way the screen was designed. This is a show stopper for my wife (who does graphic design and would be the main user)...so we're sending both ZBook's back and getting a ThinkPad P90 instead.

    Any feedback would be appreciated....thanks

Did you upgrade the bios and install the latest drivers?
What screen does it use and what happens if you use an external one?

I wouldn't think this is normal even out of the box, you can probably calibrate the colours but they shouldnt be that far out to begin with.
I get the feeling the G3 might have been a bit rushed and/or has some production issues.

Yes...upgraded the bios and installed latest drivers...no change at all. Connected an external screen and it looked just fine...which rules out the graphics card as the problem. What convinced me that it was a hardware problem with the screen was running the WIndows 10 screen saver and seeing light bleeding into the screen from the edges....instead of a constant tone of black.

Just a warning to anyone who needs the color to be bang on (like graphic designers, etc) that this model might not be for you. I was almost suspecting that HP would confirm they produced a bad batch and we got one of them...but they basically said "it is what it is".

That doesn't sound like HP. Have them send you another one til the screen is perfect as specified.

Believe it or not, we ordered a Lenovo P70 Thinkpad...and it has the exact same issue! Since the common thread with both laptops is they both have an NVidia card...I started a chat with them to see if their settings might be the issue. They were very helpful and confirmed that the laptop screen was controlled by the onboard Intel graphics card. The NVidia card kicks in when extra graphics power is needed...but the color is controlled by the Intel Control Panel. They could have stopped there...but also helped track down the settings we should adjust in the Intel Control Panel. So after seeing this issue with 2 HP laptops and 1 Thinkpad, we have come to the conclusion that this is simply the default color setting that Intel is going with with the higher-end 17" screen workstations. We have made the adjustments to the color and they look OK now. Still thinking about contacting Intel directly to ask why their default color settings would be like this...but not sure how hard it would be to find the right support group.

PLEASE share the settings with us.

I don't have the orange phenomenon on mine but other issues with a dimmer screen which is perhaps the result of the "DreamColor Power Plan." But having had full screen orange "washes" on both an 8770 and a G2 version of DreamColor (a bit different from your experience), I would appreciate having the setting information. Thanks!
