I prchased a new WD 320GB Scorpio Blue PATA HD to replace the Toshiba 60 GB in my HP nc8430. The Toshiba has flat pins and the WD has 2 rows of round pins. Does not seem to fit. HELP

Assuming the Toshiba is not a SATA (vs PATA) drive, the Toshiba probably has a pin adapter on it to convert from the standard IDE/PATA connector on all such drives to the more or less proprietary interfaces found in the various manufacturers' notebooks. I've never seen a notebook where the PATA drive plugged directly into the notebook without some kind of adapter (altho I admit I haven't seen everything yet).

If so, it's just a matter of carefully slipping the adapter off the Toshiba and onto the WD while maintaining the proper orientation.

nc8430 uses SATA type hard drives, you have bought PATA type. No adapters needed, just a caddy that secures drive in place and that you get from the old drive.

I also renamed the topic so it shows what's this thread is about.
