    Hi,

Hi, I have an Elitebook 840 G2 with 1 stick of 8 Go which I wanted to upgrade to a second 8 Go stick.

According to RAMMon, my initial ram stick is (HP branded) Samsung M471B1G73 DB0-YK0 and since I could not find a similar model in my country I bought one from ebay.

But I was sent instead Samsung M471B1G73 BHO-CKO which seems to be a later version. Physically they don't look the same either.

According to RAMMon, the specs, however, seem to be pretty similar (see file below) but I get an HP warning that this Ram could damage my computer and I don't want to either damage it or lose its warranty (around 10 months).

Question 1: Is this warning usual when one doesn't buy HP branded memory?

Question 2: Could this Ram really damage my notebook?

Question 3: Would it be preferable if I bought a second stick of the new third-party memory?

Question 4: Any way to bypass HP warning which prevents automatic restart?

Thanks in advance for your advice.

Samsung sells the memory you listed in two specs: 1.35V and 1.5V. (Source - Samsung product guide PDF.)

The warning about damage could be because you have the 1.5V memory, but the HP Elitebook 820 G2 uses 1.35V.

You can check CPU-Z and see what it says. Use the ZIP - English file from the download page. Run CPU-Z after downloading/extracting, and look at the SPD tab. The voltages will be listed at the bottom.

Charles, thank you so much. I had only seen one which seemed to be both 1.35v and operable to 1.5v and missed the other one which is only 1.5v. Frankly I can't believe that with all the ref numbers manufacturers produce they can't single out a product and make it so difficult to find the right stuff.
