    Hi,
I have an HP8740W and I want to install windows 8.1.
But my laptop doesn't want to boot from the installation disks.
If I put installation disk in an HP elite 8200 they boot => so it is not the installation disks
If I put my old XP-bootable disk in HP8740W they boot => so it is not the CD/DVD drive

So I think it is something in the Bios but I have no clue

    Has anyone some Idea's

    Try booting in UEFI mode.

make sure in the BIOS your first device you boot from is the optical disc drive and it is enabled to boot from it at all
